silvermelody and anyone else having butt/poop problems (ashtog and rinny I think?) SQUATTY POTTY. It's life changing. I don't have one, just put my feet up on the wastebasket when I'm having issues. TMI: I had some unfortunate complications from pushing during labor, a tear in my butt lining (I hate the term fissure so I'm sticking with tear), I almost needed surgery. All the fiber and magic butt paste from the doctor didn't help but using the squatty potty method fixed it in no time. Helps with constipation too so you don't end up with butt awfulness from trying too hard.

Maybe I should have saved this for ffc...
omg this happened to me too. It's been a year and a half and I still have a tear, though it's getting smaller. Will have to try your method. I get headaches with topical nitroglycerin so all I could ever use was hydrocortisone.
It was seriously worse than all the other PP problems combined. I couldn't sit comfortably to breastfeed for at least a month.

"Shitting knives" is how my butt doctor described it. It was absolutely the worst pregnancy/postpartum thing and completely ruined any newborn joy for me. I dreaded every morning knowing I was going to be I so much pain taking my morning constitutional. I plan on being super on top of my hydration and fiber intake this time around in hopes of preventing another one. I'm stocking up on miralax now!

I'm putting a large can of prunes in my hospital bag, for sure. And colace. If I manage a vaginal delivery again, I may skip the narcotics altogether.
The shitting knives was bad, but the always sitting on a cactus feeling was worse for me. I also had a second degree tear and that was a cakewalk in comparison.
Just hoping I can heal mine in the next couple of months... fingers crossed. I'm screwed if it's still there before I even get to L&D.
There is way too much saliva in my mouth. This is gross. I did not experience this last time. Is it normal?! I don't like it.
This was me a few weeks ago for about a week or so. I was actually choking on my own spit sometimes. Yuck. It has calmed down for me, but if I'm really paying attention I still notice I have more than normal, just not tons of it like before.

Warning: discussion of butt problems/hemorrhoids ahead:
As I was....dealing with things this morning I swore that I was going to order a squatty potty today! It won't help at work but at least I won't make things worse at home.
I am so thankful I never had a tear, but the hemis are a freaking nightmare sometimes. They hurt for hours sometimes.
Which magic butt paste were you using? I have Tucks pads and the Prep H with the green label that is "pain relief plus aloe" but those only help a little.
Also, pro-tip for the first timers: if you have internal hemorrhoids, spring for the actual Prep H suppositories. Soooo much easier, more comfortable and less messy than trying to use the tube with the applicator.

Nifedipine paste. It's a heart medication and it was suppose to relax the muscles to let the tear heal. I didn't think it helped a whole lot. I'm team squatty potty and miralax! If you don't order one right away at least try a box/wastebasket. I thought it was ridiculous but I'm a believer now!

I got an Rx for a nitroglycerin suspension in Vaseline. It actually gave me a minor headache, which is apparently a potential side effect, nitro can lower your BP. I think it's a heart med too? I think it got me over the hump of the worst of the pain - since I used it, it hasn't been as severe, even though I've still had issues.
They gave me prescription strength hydrocortisone instead, which I've been told by OB office and by my gastro is safe to use while pregnant. It seems to help calm things down, especially after poops.
You can save $ on Tucks pads if you just buy your own big bottle of witch hazel and wet your toilet paper with it.
Sooooooo much tmi on this thread. But I really wish someone had told me to eat prunes every day and not try too hard to poop after I got home from the hospital. Seriously.

To go along with the hemorrhoid discussion - I have an external one that feels like it's the size of Alaska that I got after having my gallbladder out from all of the damn diarrhea!!! Omg this bastard kills me at times!!
My doctor finally gave me a prescription strength hydrocortisone cream to use. irish14 I'm glad your OB said it was safe to use while pregnant. That's on my list of questions for my appt on the 14th. Now it seems like every single time I poop this thing comes out to play!!

Anyone else experiencing allergy symptoms?? I remember being like this with my first, but not until much later. Raw/burning sinuses, semi-sore throat, etc.
