My ultrasound was scheduled for 5/25 but I had to move it to 6/1 because my husband was so upset that he wasn't going to be there. I'm glad he is going to be there but a little bummed I have to wait an extra week. Andplusalso 6/1 is my daughters first birthday, oh well.
eameselephant, I'm glad you got an appointment after all! My first appointment with my doctors office is also on the 25th. I'll be 8 weeks.
Their schedule of appointments goes like this, assuming a healthy pregnancy... Dating/ multiple scan and prenatal visit with the PA, not OBGYN, at 8-10 weeks. Then monthly visits through 2nd tri, alternating between the Dr and PA. I'll also get an NT scan with MFM at around 13 weeks because of my age.
Last time MH came to all scans but not appointments and he's hoping to do the same this time too. I liked having him there to hold my hand, but also it helped make things real for him and he got to ask questions too.
I'm honestly surprised at how many doctors are scheduling early ultrasounds! I know some places (RE's especially) do them before releasing patients to their OB but I'm surprised so many OB's are scheduling them early as well.
summergirl1211, pregnancy was my first experience of the U.S.healthcare system and I was amazed at the quality of care. All my friends had had a UK NHS experience which is quite different, albeit free!
I've come to think that some Drs probably do more procedures because they can charge more!

For me, the dating ultrasound is important because I always have had long cycles. When medical people hear my last MP, they think I'm further along than I am.
My doctor induces at 2 weeks past due (which I think is standard?), so I wanted to make sure the due date was as accurate as possible. In my family, babies like to go late and I didn't want to be induced just because the calendar said it was time.
Actually, my last pregnancy the dating US changed my due date by over a week.
With my last, my scan due date was adjusted to a week after my LMP due date - then DS showed up 1 wk early on my original due date. I've always wondered if he was actually right on time, and they were off on the scan.
My OB does 8 wk scans. Last time I met with the NP. eameselephant My Dr appts are always right after the scan so they can talk to you about the results - we typically don't get much info from the tech other than heart rate.

Same. With DD, the first Dr put her due Jan 2, second Dr said Jan 9, born Jan 17. They insisted on inducing and I said "yes please!".

bazinga, are you not from the United States? Did I know this and just forget?

eameselephant, I totally get that there are valid reasons for early u/s with quite a few women. I just usually don't see such a high percentage across the board! I know there are plenty of docs that don't do early dating u/s and just wait for the 20 week a/s unless there is reason for concern.

I like to think the special treatment is because we are a remarkable group of moms.
My OB always does an 8-10w u/s for the first appointment. It used to just be a quick internal with the OB but now I guess it's with a tech and they'll be doing an internal and an external. The u/s appointment is first and then we meet with the OB afterwards.
