Gestation at Birth: 33 weeks, 2 days
Birth Weight: 3 lbs, 6 oz
Link to your birth story, if/once you have one: No link, but a quick rundown: Diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 32 weeks, admitted to the hospital. The doctors spent a week trying to get my blood pressure under control. When that failed, they decided to induce me at 33 weeks. They gave me magnesium sulfate, cytotec and cervadil to start, then the next day, the doctor broke my water and started pitocin. It was here I got the epidural. Finally, on Wednesday, after 34 hours, Little Man showed up with 3 pushes. He was feisty and perfect and was taken to NICU. He was breathing on his own and just needed to learn to eat. My doctor later told me I was about an hour from getting a csection. During recovery, I developed a hematoma that burst and I was rushed to the OR where they stopped the profuse bleeding and I received 2 pints of blood. I thankfully had the best doctor and nurses attending to me at the time and can't thank them enough. I spent another week in the hospital waiting for my blood pressure to stabilize and 2 weeks later Little Man came home from NICU.
Link to your birth story, if/once you have one: Quick version.. Went in to be induced Monday evening. Found out I was in early labor on my own, so they let me labor overnight. I had terrible back labor and didn't make much progress, so they started pitocin around 4:15 am.
Got an epideral around 7 am, but it only worked on one side. They fixed it, but I couldn't feel/move my legs at all.
Became complete and pushed through one contraction and she was out! Super fast delivery.

LO's Name: Daphne
Birth Date/Time: July 28 at 4:51pm
Gestation at Birth: 39 weeks 3 days
Birth Weight: 7lbs 11oz
Link to your birth story, if/once you have one: I saw my OB at 10am and was 5cm. At the hospital at noon, I was 7cm, although my contractions were still only 10-15 minutes apart. I got my epidural and an hour later, was 10cm and ready to push. My contractions were still not very close together, so what took the longest was waiting for one to start before I could push! Daphne was born very easily and with minimal mess, according to my nurse! They immediately placed her on my chest for an hour which was lovely. She is doing really well!
Birth story: Induction was scheduled due to gestational hypertension at 39.5w, was on bedrest starting 33w for the hypertension & extreme pregnancy edema. Was on a pre-e watch as well. Well little miss C decided to come on her own at 37w2d. I had a routine apt 4 days before where I was told I was "thick & closed" aka not dilated or effaced at all and in addition my baby had not dropped. So no indication that baby was coming early.
Woke up at 6:30am on the 18th with what felt like bad period cramps. Nothing that was measurable in terms of stop/start though. I had not felt BH the entire pregnancy so didn't know what exactly it was. I also noticed a little bit of blood in the toilet & thought I may be leaking fluid. I didn't think it was contractions but I didn't know what was going on and the cramps kept getting worse (I was doubling over) so I called my OB. She said she couldn't say if I was in labor or not but to head into l&d to get checked out. Car ride was horrible, was in so much pain. L&d nurse told me I wasn't dilated or contracting & my fluids didn't break ...was about ready to punch her bc pain was so bad. Another nurse came in & checked & disagreed, said I was 2cm dilated & contracting 2 min apt. Finally got admitted. Things get blurry from here ...eventually got narcotics & the epidural as fast as I could which didn't feel fast enough at the time because the pain was soo bad. I remember telling the anesthesiologist that he wasn't moving fast enough. I kept progressing fast through the next few hours, they thought the baby was going to be coming soon. Dr went to break my water & there was no water to even break...so the first nurse was wrong. I know at one point I was given a very low dose of pitocin. I know my blood pressure levels were high despite the epidural (usually makes it low) so they had me on BP meds too. Baby was successfully descending but ultimately got stuck in +1 station in the birth canal. This is a long story made very short here. C section call was made for safety reasons (both me & baby) around 9:30pm. I cried and cried & threw up all over my husband. After the C-sect my dr said she recommends I always have a C in the future due to an abnormally small pelvis (there was no way my baby was coming out otherwise). She said my situation was an example of a true medical need for a c because if it were back in the "day," baby wouldn't have made it. Poor thing had a very swollen head & scars/bruises from being stuck at +1 station in the birth canal for over 3 hours. So glad she's here!
Birth Date/Time: August 7 at 3:27 PM (Pacific Time)
Gestation at Birth: 39 weeks, 2 days
Birth Weight: 6 lbs, 4 oz
Link to your birth story, if/once you have one: (This is a LONG one!) On March 22, 2016, I had my mid-pregnancy ultrasound and we were to leave on a family vacation/babymoon to Australia on March 25. The ultrasound found that our baby boy had a congenital heart defect so we cancelled our trip in order to get evaluations on his condition. We had a microarray amniocentesis that found no genetic disorders then got started with UCSF's Fetal Heart Center to get echocardiograms through my pregnancy. We found out that the baby has Tetralogy of Fallot, a diagnosis that has not changed.
Due to his diagnosis and also our living one hour (without Bay Area traffic) from UCSF, we planned for a scheduled induction on August 6. On August 2, I started feeling painless contractions that started at the top of my uterus. They lasted one minute each and were spaced out 3-4 minutes apart for the two hours I tracked. We were told to make the drive to UCSF L&D. Upon arriving, I was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced, but contractions had slowed down a lot. The midwife told me that we should go for a two hour walk, get lunch, and then come back to see if there was any progress. After coming back, my cervix remained pretty much the same, except a little softer. We were told to stay in San Francisco and not go home, in case things got going quickly and we couldn't get back from home in time. The next day, I came back for more monitoring, but there were no contractions at all. I did not get my cervix checked at that point. I really missed my toddler and asked if we could go home since they weren't planning to induce early. We got to come home!
On August 6, we drove up to San Francisco for dinner before induction time. During the drive and dinner, I felt painless contractions about 5 minutes apart. 9:40 PM- I was still 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. My membranes were stripped at this time. 10 PM- I received two doses of misoprostol (prostaglandins). I started getting contractions soon after and they started hurting a decent amount. August 7 at 4 AM- I was only 3 cm dilated and my membranes were stripped again.
7 AM- I started getting pitocin. 9 AM- received epidural. 11 AM- I was still just 4 cm dilated and feeling pretty frustrated. At 1:40 PM, my water broke on its own. At 2:10 PM, there were several waves of back to back contractions and this stressed baby out, causing a few heart rate decelerations. About six medical professionals rushed in to check what was going on, I was put on oxygen, taken off pitocin, and my husband was told to suit up and be ready to rush to the operating room (it was always the plan to deliver there so there was more space for baby to be immediately evaluated by the NICU team). I was 6 cm dilated.
3:10 PM- the amazing nurse working with us emptied my bladder manually and in doing so, the baby was able to drop further down. A midwife was also serendipitously in the room so she checked my cervix and it was fully dilated. She had me do a practice push then told me it was time to go to OR for delivery.
3:22 PM- get to OR. 3:27 PM- After less than five pushes that weren't even done simultaneously with contractions, Ripley is born. Ripley was put on my chest for a short minute then taken for evaluations. At 1 minute, he was given an APGAR score of 8 and at 5 minutes, a score of 9. He was 6 lbs, 4 oz and just over 19 inches long. I was able to go to NICU to properly meet him around 6 PM.

Birthdate: 10ish?? On 8/11.
Gestation: 39+3
Weight: 7lbs 3 oz.
Birth story when I'm not typing on my phone. :-) Long story short: needed a c-section due to a sunny side up baby and a stunningly narrow pelvic cavity. We are both doing well. I should go back to sleep.
Name: O.wen Sam.uel Birthdate/Time: 8.27.16/ 3:17am Weight/Height: 7lbs 9oz/ 20.5 inches Gestation: 39+5 Birth story: Had my membranes stripped at my OB appt on Friday the 26th. Had a few mild contractions on and off during the day but nothing new. Then around 5:30pm I got up off the couch and felt a small gush and thought I had peed. Took a couple steps and another small leak. Went to the bathroom and peed so just assumed it was pee. Went to change my underwear and DH came home and I told him what happened. Then a couple more small gushes and then knew my water was leaking. I called my OB and he said to go to labor and delivery but not to rush. I still didn't have any contractions so I cooked something to eat, did the dishes, took a shower and did my hair and makeup lol. Finally about 9pm I had some decent contractions that were about 5-6 mins apart so we left for the hospital. On the way there the contractions were pretty bearable so we decided to stop and get gelato! Once at the hospital she checked me and I was still 2.5 cm and the test for amniotic fluid was negative on the first test. I hadn't had any fluid leak in about an hour so guess it had sealed. The later test came back positive and so I was admitted. The nurse let me labor for awhile saying that if my contractions didn't pick up in intensity or frequency that they would give me a small dose of pitocin. I didn't want that and apparently my body responded because I started having pretty painful and close together contractions. She checked me again and I was at 3.5cm. I asked for the epidural because at that point the only position that felt good was standing leaning on a ball and I just couldn't stand anymore. I was getting tired and shaky. The nurse said I had one person in front of me to get an epidural but then the anesthesiologist came right away since I was a 2nd time mom and things progress a lot quicker I guess. After the epidural was done I tried to sleep and around 2am I was at a 6. Tried to sleep some more but about 30 mins later my nurse came to check me again and I was complete! She had me do a couple practice pushes and then called the doctor because baby was coming. I was told I couldn't push but had the strongest urge to and SO much pressure that it was pretty uncomfortable. Finally my OB got there and quickly set up and after about 3-4 pushes O.wen was born!! I cried and he cried and it was amazing. My ILs surprised us and had driven down in the middle of the night with DD and she got to meet her little brother right after he was born. It was odd to have her awake at 4am but she handled it well. Overall labor and delivery was a bit more painful than with DD but WAY faster and easier. Recovery therefore has been easier too

Link to your birth story, if/once you have one: The story is long and I haven't written it out, but sum it up: induced, failed natural attempt, failed epidural, baby girl didn't tolerate pushing well and needed to be vacuumed out. I was hysterical for hours from the whole experience but my husband and doula were champs. They say I was the strong one, but I don't think that's true. Baby girl is perfect.
Link to your birth story, if/once you have one: Nothing typed out anywhere else, and I feel a little bit like its bragging, but giving birth this second time around felt like such a breeze compared to my first time through.
First (real) contractions started at 3am give or take. Timing after the third one hurt, realized they were already 4 min apart by the 6th one. Let SO know, he said it was hospital time when I would have waited longer. Hospital around 5am after dropping DD1 at my friend's house. I went in announcing I wanted an epidural, I was not gonna mess around without it.
Got checked in, shift change around 7am. Met the midwife who would do my delivery. She wanted me to walk around, I said no way, she offered the birthing ball instead and that she would come back in a little while. When she got back, I was making lots of outlandish noises and she decided I was definitely in active labor. I had my epidural in around 8am and she broke my water then.
Checked right before the epidural, was at 4cm. I got to relax and take a nap for about 2 hours after. The nurse came in a bit after 10am and checked again, got a funny look on her face and mumbled about was she feeling what she thought she was feeling... I must have looked terrified at that because she hurried to explain, no its good, I feel her head! I think you are fully dilated!
I was shocked by that, but she bustled off to call the midwife back from her office in town. Apparently I was ready to push but I couldn't feel even the supposed pressure that says you're ready to go. So, about 11am, midwife rolls in, pushing happened a handful of times as I figured out how to do it while totally numb, and out popped baby at 11:14.
8ish hours start to finish, epidural worked like a dream, and my baby girl came out perfect. It was the kind of experience I would so hope for any mom, especially second+ timers who had longer/tougher/more traumatic first times like I did.
