I think we discussed biting while nursing a couple months ago when many of our LOs got their first teeth.
Emily got her 2 bottom teeth about 6 weeks ago. She bit me a few times and I unlatched her, and said "no biting mommy." I noticed she was doing it more so when getting sleepy or bored at the end of nursing. And she did it once when she apparently wasn't interested in nursing.
It hasn't been an issue in weeks. This morning she woke up like any other day. I went to nurse her and she bit me on the left side. I said no etc. She gave me the biggest pouty lip. And after a few minutes I tried her on the left side and she nursed just fine. When I offered lefty again she bit.
I tried again before her nap and after. All she does is try to bite me. I gave her Tylenol thinking her teeth must hurt. And I gave her a cold teether which she's been chomping on.
She's clearly hungry but I don't know what to do... She doesn't take bottles from me. And she hasn't been taking them from H either... She just chews on the bottle nipple (ironic now!)
I haven't had issues with M biting (yet, knock on wood!). But A was a biter once she had bottom and top teeth.
Is she only biting the left side? If so, it could be teething or pain related. Ear infection and sinuses can affect nursing too, I think? I'd try different nursing positions, side lying, football (may be hard with a big baby vs newborn). Different pillow support might help too.
With A I did the stern "no" and un latch. I also had to really pay attention to when she was done eating. Once she was full or I was empty she would bite. I then unlatched and gave her a pacifier.
cocopuff, Oh yes, Mila bit my nipple on Mother's Day and pierced it pretty deep. It is still heeling, thanks to breast milk!
Prior to that I noticed when she favored one side it was definitely due to teething, and sitting her up to nurse on that side helped a lot. Also, Motrin shortly before she feeds may help as well.
Thank you for all the suggestions. The issue right now is that she will not even try to latch on she just goes straight to bite she doesn't open her mouth wide to latch. I tried a bottle and sippy she won't try those she just chews on them and screams. It's almost 3 PM here and she hasn't nursed since 9 AM. I did give her oatmeal with about 2 ounces of breast milk at 1 pm and she ate all of that.
Thanks everyone. Looks like she's just on a nursing strike. I will call the ped about her ears since she is just getting over a cold. I tried nursing again and she just cries when she sees my boobs :-( it's breaking my heart. I know it's not personal but it hurts my feelings a lot.
We tried a bottle again and it was a no go. So I spoon fed her about 3oz of breastmilk and she ate some baby food. So she's not going to starve...
Hopefully if she wakes up in the MOTN she will nurse. Otherwise it will be a shit show :-(
cocopuff it really sucks! I know it's common. I just wish I knew what the problem was so I could fix it. First time ever she wouldn't nurse to sleep (besides the nights I'm at work) :-(

Dominic did this right before another tooth popped in. I was getting worried and was starting to get frustrated with the biting. Just keep offering, and if she won't latch, make sure to pump so your supply doesn't dip. Offer it by spoon or mixed into food like you're already doing. Good luck, it won't last forever I swear!

Also, I try to "trick" C into nursing. He loves his pacifier so I'll give him that and then pop it out and replace with boob. If that doesn't work I get him nice and drowsy and then do the same.

I finally got her to nurse again Saturday afternoon after 2.5 days without! I popped the paci out and the boob in when I was rocking her at nap time. She's been acting totally fine ever since. Like nothing ever happened.
