Three day weekend that's already all planned for... I guess part of me likes it (because I get to see friends and family) but part of me wishes there was just some non-accounted for time off.
Happy Wednesday!
H and I may play bookie around noon since it's supposed to be gorgeous here (sunny and 80s) and get some house stuff done. I cannot settle on an all-over greige color. We now have an open concept entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen so I was going to keep all that space one neutral paint color.

I'm supposed to have a 3 day weekend but my boss might want me to work. I told him I'm going out of town then he went and asked another coworker of mine if he could cover for me. I feel like an a-hole so thought about coming in Saturday morning. BUT things are moving faster than expected so I might be able to do my thing tomorrow and Friday instead. FX everything gets done so I can enjoy my 3 days off!
No big plans for this weekend for me. I work Saturday for an hour and then have 5 days off!?! (sorry AW) Today is my "clean-up day!" Always happens when DH leaves for work. I just feel like getting everything back to where I like it, as it sometimes feels like a hurricane came thru when he's home. Mostly put stuff away, vacuum, change sheets to my girlie pink ones, etc. Any crafty ladies? Anyone starting to knit/crochet/quilt baby blankets? booties? etc.?
goldenlove3, I don't understand why your boss wouldn't tell you before this week if they would like you to be there this weekend!?! Sorry for the political awareness training. Is that like being sensitive to people who have different political views than yours? Why not just say, "Politics... not in the workplace!"
Anyone done a move with a uhaul? I've always used movers, but they are looking to be way more expensive than we are willing to spend. Like, they are wanting 1/4 to half of what we spent to move from CO to TX. That's about 1,000 miles and we had them move ALL our stuff. This is 30 miles and only big furniture/appliances. No boxes. No small items. Beds, dressers, couch, some cabinets, washer and dryer, fridge, and one potted tree. I just can't justify paying so much for so little. But, we've never moved a fridge before and it makes me nervous.
I did pack 2 boxes yesterday. Yay me! I want to finish packing the loft this week and I need to gather our garage sale items for Saturday.
L is driving me crazy though. She's getting her canines and she bites when she's teething. She also poured water all over her pants and the floor. And she's just been very fussy/tantrumy today. It's only 10. We have open gym this afternoon, but we may need to go to the park or something too.
ClassyMrsA, I've moved from Maine/NY to Houston with a UHaul, as well as a larger UHaul from Houston to Seattle (in winter). Both with a trailer at the back holding a car! It helped that DH knows how to drive bigger trucks. I was a nervous mess the entire time I drove but luckily it was straight highway for my drives. Ask away! I find the cost is really good for shorter trips like within the same city.

Did you move appliances? The cost looks great and DH has students and friends lined up to help us. But I'm nervous about moving appliances (especially the fridge).
Mom fail: I tried to take DS to our club pool this morning but didn't realize it doesn't open til 12 (apparently Memorial Day wknd is when it officially starts all-day hours). He was so disappointed, I felt like such a jerk. So we're going back in 20 minutes, haha.
I have a dentist appt at 3 and a sitter lined up, so I may try and sneak in an errand or 2 kid-free.
kleigh If you need paint suggestions, let me know. I have a little interior design business and have some favorite greige shades I can pass on.
ClassyMrsA I was also going to suggest students/friends to help. We did not move our refrigerator but I would not be too concerned unless it's one of those ginormous fancy ones. I can't tell if you're concerned about the lifting or the transport of it. H and his dad did move ours out of the house over the summer and into storage whole house renovations were underway. They did so with ease and FIL is 55+.
LizInFL PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! Lol. I am so clueless and with babies on the brain I really can't take anymore decision making about the house. We are using Benjamin Moore. I've tested Grey Owl (or Owl Grey, can't remember which way it goes), Abalone, and Lacey Pearl (that ones really light).
Grey Owl is too cool, but in general we like the shade maybe a hair too dark.
Abalone looks pinkish on the sample we applied.
So give me your favorite greiges!!! On the lighter side.
ClassyMrsA, we moved the fridge and we moved 2 couches, 1 60" television, entertainment center, California king bed and frame, bookshelves, a few bureaus, etc. They do give you lines to tie things down and you can "rent" extra moving blankets. We just put the sensitive stuff in last and we put the fridge in first because heavy! We didn't have any problems with moving the fridge or the microwave. If it makes you feel better, some places do sell refrigerator boxes for you to move with. DH saved the box for the TV so that was ok (but he did put it in last). Just put the heaviest stuff on the bottom and the lighter things on top. Make sure everything is level so if sharp turns happen nothing goes flying.
kleigh I just pulled out my Ben Moore fan deck, lol. Two that I love are Revere Pewter and Edgecomb Gray (EG is what we're doing in DS's room). They may be a bit warmer than what you are going for, not sure. Stonington Gray is another pretty one that is a bit more gray. You could always have it lightened a touch if it's too deep. It's a very neutral gray, if that makes sense. Classic Gray/Balboa Mist are 2 more nice shades (Balboa Mist is the deeper version).
If it makes you feel any better, we went through probably 7 test colors before we decided on the neutral for our house. I was literally a crying mess as I painted swatches on the walls. It was stressful!
ClassyMrsA if you are only going 30 miles appliances aren't hard, just make sure to keep the fridge upright, use a dolly with well aired tires and strap it well. We have moved ourselves across Texas in a trailer no issues and uhaul was easy to work with when we used them.
The other thing is did you look at National movers or local ones?

aggiebug We've looked at both local and national. I think we are just going to use a uhaul, though. It makes more sense ultimately for such a short move and we have time to do it since the house we are in now belongs to my dad.

cheshie6 It all kind of happened last minute and is coming from upper management way above my boss. We had provided what our timing would be (about 2 months) and they said nope, do it in 2 weeks. It's all bullshit and I know we're going to break something.

Oh and political awareness was all about how we aren't allowed to lobby or give gifts to government officials. That's pretty much all I took out of it anyway.

ClassyMrsA wrap that fridge to protect from scratches and try to keep it as upright as possible. If you need to lean it (say on a dolly) past 45 degrees it's NBD, just let it sit for about 24 hours before plugging in and turning on to let the freon settle. I've moved 4 times in the past 4 years and with enough help the savings from using a company like Uhaul was worth a lot more in my opinion than the ease of using a company to move everything for us.

I love greige so so much kleigh! Let us know which one you choose. I'm totally going to steal some of LizInFL 's suggestions for possible nursery colors.

We have company coming Friday and staying the long weekend, surgery Saturday morning, and baseball game (minor leagues) Saturday night, and our yearly Memorial Day (weekend??) party on Sunday. I have zero food and need to clean. Freshening up the guest room might be a nice gesture too.

sophiegrace I feel ya. I look at my to do list and go nope. Ugh.
So...my toddler sat on the toilet for the first time!!! I'm ridiculously excited about this. She's been scared of it in the past and seemed to believe it was just for puking. Lol. But today, I brought her in the bathroom with me and she started pointing at the toilet and going, "poo, poo." So I asked if she wanted to try it and she said yes. So I set her on it sans diaper and she smiled! If she actually potty trains before this next baby, that'd be amazing. But I'm really just happy we are slowly moving in that direction.

Was anyone else following the TCF FB weirdness today? (And -- my guess -- reason why the love tit is currently "would use this as a learning experience.")

No, what happened?
goldenlove3, Someone on the admin team posted about the NY Times article about CIO being safe. (If you just Google NY Times, sleep training, I am sure it will pop up.) The study is certainly flawed, but the tone by the poster was very unprofessional and sarcastic, and it was done on behalf of TCF -- not the individual person -- and expressed the opinion of that person, rather than the organization as a whole. A lot of people, myself included, were upset and commented about it, so it was eventually taken down.
It has been addressed by the admin team now, and it likely won't be happen again. I just have some concerns because I have noticed that there are places where TCF, as an organization, should be professional, but personal stuff gets in the way. I have been unable to quite put my finger on it because up to this point there has not been any tangible event that I could pinpoint to show why I felt this way. But now I feel like it's not just in my head. I hope that they take the concerns that were brought up seriously.
peanutmuse, interesting!?! I saw that posted by a pediatrician friend but ignored it! I agree with you that sometimes they post things that are opinions of that poster and not representative of the community as a whole. I just try to remember they are everyday people who were thrust into these positions because the Dump was ridiculous. Sometimes passion/excitement comes ahead of logic! I can see them trying to stay on top of baby, pregnancy, child-rearing news, and not stopping to think, "Is this my opinion, or the community's opinion?" "Should I post this as TCF or as myself?" I can see that being complicated sometimes.

That's just it, though. There shouldn't really be a community opinion, not on that particular topic, and especially not expressed the way that it was. They are trying to win a $25,000 grant right now, to grow the community and business. This is not just a couple of individuals thrust into a position. They decided to do this. They have to be more responsible with this kind of stuff.
I wholeheartedly agree that individuals can have off days and stuff like this can slide. But as a business, they have to do better.
