+1 to the Santa Fe actually, I rented that one a few times are enjoyed it.
I had a 2012 Santa Fe that we had to trade in for the traverse because it wouldn't fit our car seat unless the passenger seat was in the dash. I hated it so much but I've heard the new body style they came out with in 2013 fits better.

Ohhhhh I hate when cars aren't car seat friendly. My rentals were all pre-kid so it was never a consideration. I'm always surprised when SUVs or crossovers have the same space issues as my small Cruze.

I was so mad!!! I figured oh hey I drive a SUV, so it'll be good! Nope. My moms Chevy Cobalt fits the car seat better than our Santa Fe did. I love my Traverse SO much so I'm not unhappy now, but did not want to be out car shopping at 36 weeks pregnant after discovering our vehicle wasn't car seat friendly.
What was explained to us is that a selling feature of an SUV is rear hatch space so they push the back seats up to make the hatch bigger.
We went into all the dealerships with our car seat in hand and installed it into each one to find what would work. The Chevy Traverse and Equinox were the only vehicles that it actually fit comfortably in (only looked at SUV because winter).
Our cars are getting older, so at some point we'll be in the market again for something different. But, we have a Nissan Xterra and a Jeep Liberty- both of which are no longer being made. We really like our Xterra, and DH owned a Nissan prior to it that lasted forever. Although I personally love the look of Jeeps, I don't think we will ever own another Jeep. We've had so many issues with my Liberty. 4WD is a must for us though.
txshep, kinda on topics, just wanted your advice - when we move to Houston obviously we need two cars, here we drive a company CRV and the lease ends in Dec, when we will get a car allowance instead. We will def get one SUV but we're thinking of buying the second car new, and I'm thinking a smaller car, like a Toyota Corolla/Ford fiesta type thing - is his a terrible idea in Houston? My ex-TX friend said I wouldn't want to drive a small car as everyone will be in massive SUVs.

There are tons of massive SUVs, pickups, and 18-wheelers on the freeways here. With that being said, in the 5 years we've lived here, ive driven a mini and now my small BMW sedan. Personally, I'm totally comfortable driving a vehicle that size and haven't run into any issues with having a smaller car (other than carseat space). It's really personal preference. There are still plenty of other people driving sedans, MINI's, fiats, and even Smart cars on the highway here!

Ok thanks!!! We will do a trip next month to look at houses etc and prob rent a small car and see how comfortable I am. Obvs if we're ever road tripping we will use the bigger car but if I'm just driving to the supermarket etc I'd prefer a smaller cheaper car.
