jessiespano How did your walk through go with your house? Were the tenants still being shady?
Oh ya! I forgot to update.
So- they kept trying to push me off by telling me they were "surrounded by boxes" and it was too crazy.
Not one box in sight. None. The house was SO dirty. Messy, dusty, kitchen and bathroom were gross, etc. But, other than that, no real damage. They never painted which is good. Aside from the known issue of them not taking care of the yard, it wasn't actually anything surprising. I could tell they hadn't moved anyone in so that was good.
So I took some measurements and will start buying some stuff we need- I'm excited! I just can't wait to get in there and have it cleaned, and buy a new toilet. Because gag.
Had 16 oz of coffee at 7:30. Is it too soon to add another 8 oz of caffeine to my system? Hmm, maybe half caff.
So, I'm back down to my pre-pregancy bra size, and my boobs feel soooo tiny and floppy. Definitely a different shape (and height, ha) than before. It's so weird. They're not dense anymore. Even before pregnancy, they felt huge and heavy (confirmed dense tissue). Now ... not so much. It's so funny, I'll stare at them in the mirror in disbelief I ever thought they were huge (pre baby). H laughed the other day at how small they are, comparatively, but also said, "they definitely faired better than I expected!"
For me, it's obviously different and more stressful than traveling pre-baby but I love to travel and would look back and be pissed if we didn't go anywhere because of C - it's just different now. Plus, we plan on having 2-4 kids close in age so it might be a while before we have kids of better traveling age.
You just have to know yourself. Will you look back in a few years and regret not traveling or vacationing? Or would you be happier cutting back or saying no altogether? Who knows, maybe in a few weeks, or months, it will get easier. Like you said, it sounds like the trip to see your grandfather is special and important. No matter how unenjoyable it is it sounds like you'll really like looking back on making that trip. Good luck!
I'm always glad we do a trip after the fact but it's just a ton of work and not every part of the trip is enjoyable. I want to make sure he has experiences but I really did enjoy traveling more pre-baby. Flying now gives me anxiety, I'm terrified of something happening. It also may be because we are here for a wedding so 70+ family members are trying to do stuff and there is always something planned. Not everyone respects that he needs a nap or that I need to nurse him.
Like you said, it's just different and I'm still adjusting. Not every trip we've gone on with him has been this exhausting but in the end I'm glad we did it.
Yeah, this would suck. I guess I'm just bitchy or pushy or something because I have made it clear UP FRONT when we've visited family that no one had to be on our schedule, but we were not going to be on theirs. We are happy to make things happen for ourselves if we need to veer from the standard plan/schedule and don't expect anyone to rearrange things for us, but expect me to do so if my kid needs it.
caitost21 That stinks, I'm sorry it's proving so stressful. Are you always in hotels? Is it possible to do AirBNB or another type of home/condo rental? That was a big game changer for us.
::hugs:: jessiespano The time where you can be back in the comfort of your own home will come quicker than you think. Lots of deep breaths and secret glasses of wine! I missed your update about how the visit your house was. Was everything okay?
lilylove31, What your employer is doing definitely doesn't sound legal.
M slept from 10-5, and then from 5:30-7:30!! Yay for solid blocks of sleep! We're heading up the Long Beach today because they have an amazing aquarium we have been wanting to take M to and are picking up bagels and coffee on the way. After the aquarium, we are going this little restaurant that make the best lobster rolls!

caitost21 - the humidity is not something I miss about DC. It sucks. I remember leaving the house at 7 and being sopping wet with sweat by the time I got to the metro.

I'm worried about Cal's right foot. When he started pulling up I noticed that it's always turned out. Just the other day I noticed that it's also turned out when he's crawling. If he's standing I can put it in a forward pointed stance but his foot definitely seems more comfortable facing out and he steps on the inside of it.
We have his 9 month appointment when we get back so I'll bring it up then. I hope it's as easy as a little therapy.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Is it harder? Yup. Is it worth it? Yup. Would I regret not going? Absolutely.
+1
This is why we are going to France. My H really pushed me to do something different. I never traveled as a kid and don't want that for J. I don't want to look back and regret not doing things because I have a kid. One of the reasons I held off having kids was because I didn't want to lose who I was. Travel is such a large part of my adult identity that I know that I would be upset if I stopped doing it.
Val is taking an epic nap! I wish I had grabbed stuff for DS & I when I put her down. At least I just got us both sunscreened up. So now just have to get Val and everyone dressed in bathing suits when she finally wakes up. I really think she is totally sleeping more comfortably with a fan blowing on her!

Quoting myself because now I've gone down the rabbit hole...according to the internet one cause of uneven foot turning (as in some children's feet both turn in or out until they learn to walk and then it corrects itself) is hip dysplasia.
We have an in ground pool, had it for 6 years (came with the house) and also I grew up with one so I knew what I was getting into.
It is a lot of work, but most of the work is around closing/opening. My pool legit looks like a swamp right now cuz all we have had time for is removing the cover with PL and having a million other needy monsters.
It'll need a few days of scooping, running the filter and tons of chemicals to get it swimmable but I just DGAF right now.
The maintenance over the summer isn't bad, if you stay on top of it. You have to check it daily though.
We have a bromine pool and we do all the work ourselves.

I know, I know...step away from Google.
Step away from Google... Bring it up but honestly DS was like that until he was walking and using those muscles.

San Diego Zoo or Sea World? And why?
I have been to both but YEARS ago as a child. DH has been to neither. Also with us will be my Dad & Mom, my sister and her daughter/my niece (3 years).

It's been forever for me too but there are lots of sea worlds. I feel like the San Diego Zoo doesn't have a comparison, it's one of my favorite childhood memories. I believe it's a whole lot more walking than sea world, though.
tsmith312, I loved the mesh undies too, I'd probably still wear them if I could buy them. There's something luxurious about being able to throw away your underwear.
@chitownsully, Raf doesn't dance but he does this funny twerk thing for certain songs, it's hilarious.

Walking would not be an issue for anyone - the whole family are long distance runners.

Neither. Wild Animal Park.
Eta: guess it's called the San Diego Zoo Safari Park these days.

I keep finding that it's normal for both feet to point in or out until they start walking but nothing about just one foot.

San Diego Zoo is one of the best zoos in the world. Gorgeous, very walkable.
Sea World is somewhere I went as a kid but will not support as an adult because of the treatment of the whales and dolphins. There's a reason so many of the whales have to be treated for depression and other issues not found in the wild.

Now his appointment seems so far away!
DD1 had one foot pointing inwards all the way up until she could walk independently. Even when she was walking with a walker at 9-10 months, she had the one foot pointing in. I brought it up to our doctor and he said it was normal. Once she walked alone, it stopped.
I am applying for another job here. This one is a federal government position, so it would be the same overall employer I have currently. It would be a promotion, but probably less challenging than what I do in Ottawa.
I am feeling good about it because I had a great convo with DH. I overestimated his love of Shittyborough, and he was super clear that me working here doesn't change our plans to go back. Which is a great relief.

We put the box units in upstairs and I was blasting the AC in Jacob's room. The kid loves being cold to sleep like his Mom and Dad

The San Diego Zoo. Hands Down.
Reason 1 - everyone else mentioned. Sea World is awful to their whales.
Reason 2 - San Diego Zoo has PANDAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit to add. After viewing the website they also have pygmy hippos and capybaras. Now I wanna go to San Diego.
