Potty Training Experts Needed!

DD has been going pee pee on the potty every evening and a couple times a day at daycare, and yesterday when she woke up she asked to go and she did. She sometimes wakes up dry and will have dry diapers throughout the day then go on the potty. When she poops in her diaper she asks to be changed right away because it’s yucky. Clearly we are in potty training territory. I’ve been in communication with daycare and they are fine if I put her in underwear and just bring extra clothes whenwe are ready. My question is, she hasn’t pooped on the pottyyet. A lot of moms I’ve talked to say we need to just take away the crutch. It might take a couple days for her to realize it’s truly gone (aside from night). Around 2 she started going on the potty, but between us and daycare there wasn’t enough consistency and commitment and she ended up regressing and didn’t go for like 6 months. I don’t want to miss our opportunity. Maybe the best course of action is to just rip the bandaid off and take away her crutch. Should I wait until she can go poop or will just figure that out along the way? My husband seems to think we should do pull ups for a while.

I agree with jnetx, pull ups do serve a purpose when needed (out and about) but at home I'd steer clear. They are too much like a diaper and a lot of kids wont potty train using them. Naked or just underwear at home is what we did and honestly if they poop in their underwear and you dont want to clean it up throw them out . When DD learned to use the potty she hadn't pooped on it, just peed. She had one poop on the floor (gross but meh oh well better then diapers lol) and then quickly got the hang of pooping on the potty, we kept her potty seat close by at first. She's been potty trained a while now and still has an accident on the rare occasion (mostly just pee when she was playing and didnt get to the potty on time). Consistency is key so whatever you are doing at home should be the same as what daycare is doing. It sounds like she may be ready so why not go all in and give it a try, can't hurt anything.

Oh and make sure you always have a spare pair of underwear and pants/shorts on you when you leave the house, even if you carry it in your purse/leave it in the car or stash it in baby's diaper bag. Ya never know, even after they are potty trained!

Since she's at daycare going naked isn't an option.

The daycare teacher put her in her underwear and she had two small accidents, but overall did great. Since being at home she's told us she had to go and did it all by her self, so we'll see how the weekend goes.

Saturday there were a couple accidents, but yesterday went great. She woke dry from overnight, had no accidents and even pooped on the potty!

Two days no accidents. She has woken dry for 3 days and even pooped on the potty. It's like one day she was like I'm going to do this now. I don't even take her on a schedule, she tells us and goes.

@sweetc29 it sounds like she was just ready!! That makes things so much easier! Congratulations on a few days of no accidents, its a wonderful thing not changing toddler diapers .
