We also didn't do it for DD and I wish we would have. We were going to use our wedding photographer but she wanted to charge a ridiculous amount and we said no. Then we ran out of time to find another photographer. Plus I had an infection and felt like shit for 6-8 weeks PP anyway, so yeah. But we will do them with this baby for sure!

We didn't do newborn pics but did get professional ones done when DS was 12 weeks old and I 100% regret not getting then done when he was an itty bity baby. We'll definitely get ones this time around but it's so damn expensive here in Northern VA /DC that it's really going to take some convincing on my part to talk MH into it.
They offered a mini photo shoot in the hospitAl, no obligation to buy, so we did it and it was amazing. In my emotional state, I would have paid a ridiculous amount of money for them, but luckily it was only $150.
Definitely do it. We had our photographer come to our house and do a lifestyle shoot. We have several of the pictures framed in our house now. I was worried about the house being messy but she was great finding angles and moving things around so everything looked clean. We did a lot of pictures on our bed and the best one we are just standing next to a window. The hardest part was finding time to take a shower and do my hair before hand haha. I think we booked her about 4-5mo before DD was due.
I'm in the Chicagoland area. Let me know if you need some contacts!
YES PLEASE
I'm not exactly sure where you are in that area so here are a few... Hope this helps!
We used Suzanne for the newborn pics. She's decently priced and has her own studio with props and stuff. Some of LOs pics were amazing, others were meh. She seemed to have cuter stuff for girls back then. She's far from us so we didn't use her for LOs other shots. The turn around time was 2-3 weeks. www.misssuzannephotography.com
We used Polly for LOs 2 year pics. She's awesome with kids and her edits look really natural and pretty. She typically does weddings and is more of a lifestyle photographer. I don't believe she has a studio or props. She will go to you. Shes also open to you giving her feedback on if you want certain shots edited a certain way. She's also decently priced and the turn around time was just a week (although she asks for 2.) pollycphotography.com
My SIL/BIL recently used Jessica. She has multiple studios in the area and a ton of props. Nephew had a lot of super cute shots but my SIL, who had an interest in photography, wasn't a huge fan of her edits. The photographer does not share raw film. She is way way expensive, at least for me... Idk your budget. Her turn around time is about 3 weeks. www.jessicaweinstockphotography.com
@lovemesomecake- most hospitals in our area has Baby Bella's take shots in the hospital. You should see if yours does and hop online to check out their pricing too!

So we didn't do the pictures they offered at the hospital bc I was in a decent amount of pain and DS was jaundiced so needed to be under the lights. I ended up being really sad that we didn't have those until we got our newborn pictures back. I think my plan this time will be to do them if we feel up for it but I'm definitely not going to count on it.
Does anybody have any thoughts or feels on having pictures done by the hospital photographer?
I kinda wish that we bought those since I ended up needing a c/s, his newborn pics were taken when he was closer to 2 weeks. Nbd I know but they change so quickly when they're that little! I do have the hospital ones with the watermarks so I guess there's that.
I think I'll wait and see how things go this time around and how the pics turn out.

The photographer that came in the hospital took very amateur photos. Sooo, I will be telling them not to bother this time around. But I think it really depends on the hospital. They didn't charge to take the photos, only if I wanted to buy anything, so it was worth a shot the first time around.
We loved the hospital photos. DS was in NICU and they came in with some props and we had a blanket and hat/booties that were way too big, but really cute. We also had pictures taken when he came home.
Taking a baby out under a week doesn't make me nervous. We took DD shopping and to lunch on the way home from the hospital.
But newborn photos...ugh. This is an American thing, no one gets them here and when you take yourself away from this American trend it seems a little silly. Yeah they're nice, I guess, but don't you already take a million pictures of your newborn baby as it is?

There is a big difference between professional photos and pictures you take with your phone or even pictures I take with our nice camera. I just don't have the same eye for lighting or composition that someone who has studied and practiced has. It's definitely an art form and a service worth paying for IMO. I still have tons of photos I've taken that I like to look at, but all of the ones we have displayed in our house are by professional photographers. Not everyone likes to display a ton of family photos, but I love seeing photos of my family every day, it makes me happy and makes my house feel like home.

Well I'm glad for this *silly* American trend in Canada, as it is my bread and butter
