Yesterday longhornwino0907 went in for her anatomy scan for the girls. After an excruciating appointment and a talk with the OB she found out that although Liv is perfect, Cate has some major abnormalities. On the scan they noted that she is missing digits, she has some heart defects that weren't specified, she has a cleft lip and palate, and she has an encephalocele and ventriculomegally. Her head is in the <5% and her brain has not developed normally. It seems to be severe enough that her OB told her that she will likely not survive to birth and if she does will not survive long.
Obviously longhorn and her husband are devastated. They meet with the new MFM Monday morning to find out what to do and are trying to put together a list of questions. As her mind is reeling from the horrific news, she asked me to post on her behalf to 1) ask for support and prayers and 2) ask for help putting together a list of questions.
There is a question about possible termination of Cate within the next week and she's wondering if anyone has undergone a late medical termination (especially one involving twins). Prayers, help with questions, anecdotes and all help is welcome. I'm sure she will see this post but until she is ready to come to the boards I will deliver all of the information back to her.
This group is full of amazing women who are so knowledgable and supportive. Whatever info or support you can offer is very much appreciated. Thank you in advance on Longhorns behalf.
UPDATE:
Today longhorn met with the MFM. She had an amniocentesis on Cate immediately after and those results will be back preliminarily middle of this week and the full results early next week. She was recommended to have a TFMR after the full results are back next week before a legal cut off. She is home and resting and trying to process this information. To those of you who posted here - please look for a PM. If you are interested in ways to help feel free to PM me. Thank you all for your support and love. Longhorn greatly appreciates all of it!
UPDATE 2:
The full amnio results came back today normal for any major chromosomal defects. This is heart breaking news mostly for the lack of answers to all of the questions that we have. They will be doing a microarray of the amniotic fluid to check that but it's gonna take a bit longer to get that back. Darla met with the mentor MFM last Saturday and he painted a pretty dismal picture. This poor little girl has a lot of problems that amount to very little quality of life if she were to make it. Longhorn and her husband are headed in today for a reduction/termination. If you could all please say a prayer for her and her family at 3:15cst she would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you all for your love and support. This community is amazing and we have both appreciated seeing the amazing outpouring of love from Internet strangers. It really goes to show that there is a lot of good in this world when things can seem so horrible. Thank you!
