Sitting in the drive-thru at McD's now...apparently Mars Corporation (maker of M&Ms) may soon pull the rights from McDs and DQ to use M&Ms in McFlurries and Blizzards, bc of sugar content. I am not delighted with this development. Since that is what I *always* get at these places (with mint syrup at DQ), I am going to be eating allllllll the soft serve with M&Ms this summer.
I guess this will take care of my maternity pants from last pregnancy being too big.
sophiegrace We live in the Austin area and I've lived here for the vast majority of my life (28 years). San Antonio is about 1.5 hrs away so I've been there A LOT. The Riverwalk is nice for an afternoon, but that's it. There's quite a bit in and around the city though. Lots of museums, amusement parks, gardens, shops, etc. The Alamo is there, of course. It's not exactly "exciting," but if you're into history it's interesting once. Also, I'd never ever visit in the summer. It's too freaking hot and humid. Being outside is like being in an oven. I wish I could live somewhere cooler from May through September.

Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! M&M Mcflurries for lyfe !
Glad the check up went well tallblonde! Is it automatic policy for placenta to get sent to path at your hospital? It is at mine which causes an issue with those who want to keep it, but it seems rare these days for hospitals to have such a firm stance on that.
I didn't know there was a firm policy hospitals had I figured it was all due to her melanoma scare.
Eta but the thought of keeping my placenta never ever crossed my mind
sophiegrace, it's actually really great for pregnancy too! It takes all the pressure off of your sciatic nerve as well as other joints and the farther into pregnancy you go the more you're going to want to swim!
kleigh We had Thai last Friday night and it was so good. Hope yours is too!
Poor DH came home and mowed the lawn (it's huge) in crazy heat b/c it's supposed to rain all weekend and we're having people over tomorrow. Now he's taken DS with him to pick up take-out so I can have a few minutes to myself. Whenever I get nitpicky about stuff, I need to remind myself that I married a good one.
I did not even make it to the grocery store today. I did get the house fairly clean, though. I'm going to reward myself with Chick Fil A breakfast and go first thing in the a.m. when I'm fresh and it's not a billion degrees out.

LizInFL DH mowed our backyard with the push mower this morning, too. He still has to do the front tomorrow. Our house is...50% ready for our bbq tomorrow. What did you end up deciding to make? We are doing bbq baked chicken, veggies, watermelon, potato salad, pie, ice cream, unsweetened tea, and lemonade.

That sounds good to me!
We're doing burgers and hotdogs, pasta salad, fruit salad, baked beans, and spicy corn casserole. And key lime pie for dessert, b/c I've been craving it I might make a pan of brownies for the kiddos if I have extra time. SaveSaveSaveSave

Omg you guys are killing me with the McFlurry talk. I have been lactose intolerant since about 18 and so rarely eat ice cream (and if I do it's either take Lactaid with it or have major regrets after the fact). What has been my main craving this pregnancy? Chocolate shakes. Go fucking figure!
tallblonde I am glad lo is doing well and you have a seemingly good team of doctors surrounding you and baby.
Aw thanks - I meant to tag you since you had the correct diagnosis of my rash, ha:) she did have to pull out a light though, so I felt slightly less silly for my panic.
sophiegrace It's due to the melanoma bc they want to test it. I don't know what they did with it last time. After just reading a book about Henrietta Lacks and how her cells were taken at JHU in the 40s without asking but are now the biggest cell line used in science, I'm curious where all samples go..I bet more are saved than we realize.
Sorry posted and ran yesterday. Had a bbq at a friends house and didn't get home until late.
LizInFL my friends h works at Mars headquarters here.. I should shoot her an angry email! I still fantasize about the peanut m&m mcflurries sold in Vienna. What would the new option be?
For DQ - I'm a Reeses and butterfinger girl myself. Or the Mud Pie one that is on the secret menu is amazing - chocolate, coffee, and oreo.
And I liked that book but it was fascinating thinking about what they do with the tissue. I would be one that would happily give tissue to science, heck I would donate my body after death if my husband wouldn't freak out. I already told him I would like to donate any organ I can to a person in need and he wasn't a big fan he flat out said no eyes or skin.

Lol, I would march on Mars HQ if I lived that close. Yes, please send her an angry letter and sign it "from pregnant women everywhere"
They did not specify what, if anything, M&Ms would be replaced with. According to what I read, an adult's recommended daily allotment of sugar is exceeded when eating a blizzard or McF with M&Ms (um, this is news...?) and they are trying to save us from ourselves.

LizInFL Key lime pie is my absolute favorite! I fantasize about the pie I had in Key West. So jealous that you're so close. You probably can get some good Key lime pie!

Yes, it's popular here, especially at seafood restaurants or places out at the beach. I actually make my own and it's really easy if you ever want a recipe!

I find it to be such an embarrassment in the medical community that for the multitude of discoveries they have made with her cells that they cannot compensate her family in any such way. The fact that it was never consented for to begin with is too far off my moral and ethical compass to even comment on.
I can't speak for any other OB practice or hospital system, but here every placenta is sampled then put in formalin. The sample is tested for various things including infection immediately. If baby is still healthy and cleared at one month and mom is cleared at 6 weeks post partum, the hospital is notified and the placenta is (supposedly) destroyed. Anything to keep the malpractice suits away I suppose?

Sure I'll take the recipe! I just don't think I'll be able to get good key limes up here.

I cheat and use bottled lime juice (I had to go to 3 grocery stores today just to find decent limes for mixed drinks; first two places were completely sold out?!)
