My #1 BF tip is to make sure you have a good latch. I thought I knew what a good latch was with DD2 and I didn't. I didn't realize that DD2's lip wasn't flared out (a sign that she had a lip tie that contributed to digestive issues). Do you have LCs at your hospital? If so make sure they check the latch. Baby should have fish lips, basically.

Yes there are some here. If there is a lip/tongue tie, who clips it?

An ENT or pediatric dentist. They may even be able to do it in the hospital. We actually had a local oral surgeon do DD2's with a laser because the laser is a really quick and easy proceedure.

BF tips... if you are at one of the DSM area hospitals please take what the LCs say with a grain of salt. I had one good one and one that I was shocked she was giving me such terrible advice. Literal jaw drop at everything she was saying.
Your second night baby will probably want to nurse all. frigging. night. Totally normal and I wish someone would have reminded me of that so I was better prepared for an epic all-nighter.
Did you BF Nora? I had the worst few weeks with DS, but DD has been so much better. She latched immediately even as a premie. You will feel so much calmer about it all with this one Number one tip is something to entertain Nora while you BF. If Shep is going to be naughty, it is going to be when the baby is on my boob.

Good luck!!
Yeah, we're down town ... they wouldn't leave me the F alone last time.

A little. Didn't quite make 2 weeks. Flatter nipples/low supply/she was a snacker and would fall asleep like instantly/I wasn't mentally prepared for it
For entertaining a toddler while you feed the baby, I like to set aside some toys that are only pulled out at that time. I am also not above pulling out snacks then too. DD1 was great about sitting beside me while I was nursing and reading, but DD2 will not be.

If you really want to breastfeed and had trouble, see an International Board Certified LC. They are the best and most qualified. I got terrible advice from the hospital and ped's office LCs
I also had flat nipples and low supply. Lots and lots of skin-to-skin time to boost milk production. Breast shells can help pull your nipples out, ask the nursing staff on the postpartum ward if they have some. Also, gently using a breastpump can help un-flatten them and can help stimulate production.
I swear by the Motherlove supplements, the More Milk blend would probably help you. Buy the caplets, the liquid drops taste like ass. Also oatmeal with flaxseed in it.
Lastly, good luck! Can't wait to hear about new baby
Eve K was born at 251pm. She surprised everyone by weighing 8#3oz (Dr figured 7.4)... 20" long. Probably pushed for less than 15 min. We're doing good! Will post photo when not on mobile.

Congratulations!! Can't wait for pics. And yeah, sound totally normal. Hang in there momma! I am seeing a highly recommended IBCLC myself tomorrow and can pass along her name if you are interested or end up needing some hands on help.

Thanks! May take you up on that. Luckily the support group is where I had my appointments at so I'm more comfortable going there this time around as well.

Congratulations, ice61313!!! Good luck nursing. It can be a huge challenge in the beginning, but it gets so much easier!!! The rooting sounds perfectly normal. She's figuring it all out!
Keep asking questions if you need feedback on nursing! Sounds like shes doing great though. DS wouldn't nurse in the hospital, but we are still going strong here almost 2 years later. I am glad you have the opportunity to go to a support group. I have made a great group of mommy friends through mine, but it didn't start up till last September. I would have loved it when DS was little.

I had flat nips and used the shield for about 3 days and all was corrected, also pumping a couple times. Agree ask all the questions and insist on an LC you love! Rooting is great and normal, my DS would just smell me and he'd start rooting. It's gonna be a lot of nursing at first but it will help her master it. Congratulations and good luck!!!
