It's been taking E longer and longer to get tired at night. We used to put her to bed at 7pm and she'd roll around in her crib for 30ish minutes before falling asleep.
Now, even if we get her in bed at 7, she requires us to come back in multiple times and doesn't fall asleep until 8:30-8:45ish.
She wakes at 6:30am and does a 2-2.5 hr nap at daycare. (I suspect the long daycare nap is cutting into her nighttime sleep...)
When do you put your LO to bed, and what time do they actually fall asleep?

We put A to bed between 8:15-8:30pm (was 8 for a long time, but due to trouble falling asleep it slipped back a bit). Lately she hasn't fallen asleep until 9ish. She takes a 1.5-3 hour nap during the day (lately closer to 2-3 hrs) starting around 12:30-12:45pm. She generally wakes up around 7-8am (usually around 7:30).
I also feel like her naps are probably cutting into her nighttime sleep, but I know she is a bear if she doesn't get a nap, and I'm hesitant to wake her too early. (I do wake her up by 3:30pm though if she isn't awake, since if she sleeps any longer than that bedtime will be a total disaster.)
E goes to bed between 7:30 and 8. Some nights she passes right out and others (like tonight) she rolls around for 30 minutes, on a rare occasion longer.
She usually naps for 2 hours but has been taking 3 hour naps lately. I let her sleep as long as she wants as long as she doesn't go past the 3 hour mark.
M is in bed, lights out between 7 and 7:15pm. He rolls around and usually is out by 8pm on a late day. He sleeps until about 6am and has the OK to wake clock and is out of crib at 6:30am. He naps 2-2.5hrs at daycare and if he misses his nap his bed time is 6pm and he is a monster! He NEEDS his long naps and I don't feel they at all cut into his night time sleep. When he was waking up early (5am) we actually made sure he was IN bed light out 6:45pm and that helped him sleep still a little later. sleep begets sleep.

We start our routine at 7:45 with pjs and saying goodnight so we are headed upstairs by 8pm. He gets 20 minutes of stories and then it's bedtime. Some nights it takes up to an hour for him to fall asleep others he's out in 5 minutes. If we don't snuggle him to sleep it takes longer because he won't stay in bed (he has a twin bed). I find that snuggling him gives us one on one time now that DD is here. He also gets to snuggle with her on nights that DH isn't home and he likes that. I'm hoping by the time he's 3 he won't need the snuggles anymore. He's usually up by 7 at the latest right now. During the school year I wake him at 6:15 so we can be out the door by 6:45 so I'm not late to work.

We used to be at 7. But then DD started taking longer and longer to fall asleep and she'd yell for us to come in a million times for pee or whatever she could think of. She's be out around 8:45-9pm
We pushed bedtime to between 7:30 and 8 and watch for tired cues. She doesn't seem to fuss as long and is asleep around 8:15-8:30.
After a rough couple weeks of sleep, she's back to napping and sleeping through the night. Her naps are long tho - 1:30 pm- 3:30/4pm (we don't let her sleep past 4 unless she had a really rough night the night before).

We generally put E to bed between 8 and 8:30, though on days she is at the grandparents house, she doesn't get to bed until 9, 9:30 or even 10 (though those nights she passes right out).
When going at her normal bed time, it usually takes at least 15 minutes, but can sometimes take as long as an hour and a half for her to fall asleep. It kind of depends on how busy of a day we had. She generally gets up between 8 and 9:30, and naps from about 1-3.
I usually put T in her crib at 6:30pm. She'll fall asleep anywhere from 7-8pm. Sometimes I have to go back in because she's thrown everything out, but most nights she's good reading her books without an issue. She likes going to bed and will ask for it herself sometimes.
DD started rolling around getting fussy for a long time in the last few months so we've kinda pushed her bedtime later. She's usually in bed by 8, and falls asleep between 15-45 minutes later. She wakes at 7-730. And naps usually for an hour and a half. Neither her nor I are ready for her to not nap anymore, so I'll take the late bedtime for now lol.
We start the routine anywhere between 7:30 and 8:30pm and he is in bed, lights out alone about 30-40 minutes later. I believe he hangs out awake for another 15-30 minutes past that.
No matter what time he goes down for nap I don't let him sleep past 3:30pm. He is usually down for nap by 1pm. My sleep book says that kids this age need 5 hours of wake time between morning wake up and nap and then again between nap and bedtime. This has seemed to be true for Carter.

We have started the dread 1 to 0 nap transition too. Once in a while she can make it to 630/7 with no nap and no meltdown but usually it's either: 1) napping 1-3 then if we try to put her down early she is a pill until finally falling asleep 830/9, or more often we just keep her up because the resulting sleep is he same but way less fighting if we don't try to start bedtime until 8 or so. I don't let her sleep past 3, because I cannot handle her being up past 9 and she seems to need closer to 5.5/6 hours before she really gets tired 2) she doesn't have a nap and is a mess by 4/5 and then goes to be early 630/7 Either way she wakes up by 7am.
ellabee I would tell daycare to wake her up. At least try it for a week and see if it helps!

DS1 needed snuggles until he was 6. He wouldn't go to sleep unless I was laying in bed with him.
pearlvirus, E seems to need closer to 5.5-6 hrs of awake time too before being tired again. I'll talk to her daycare teachers and see what they think about waking her. I feel like the whole class goes down (and stays down) from like 12-2:30/3.

They probably won't be on board with waking her bc that's 3 hours of down time for them.

I'm in the opposite book. I had to tell daycare that absolutely for NO reason are they to EVER wake him up from a nap. Sleep begets sleep and he is a hot mess when he doesn't get it. He usually wakes up by 3:15, 3:30 whereas the other kids are woken up at 3pm. the whole class goes down for nap at 12:45 and Miles is usually one of the first out and latest up. My sleep book says "do not give up on naps until age 3.5-4 if not later". My friend's 2yr old though, hasn't taken a nap in months! BUT, she sleeps 14hrs at night!

Kids are so different. This is why I don't believe in the parenting/sleep literature. I'm glad your daycare lets M sleep as much as he needs.
We also try to never wake a sleeping baby/toddler. The only time we do it is when we have to go somewhere.
Tabitha goes down for her nap between 10:30-11am (after sleeping 12+ hours at night). I feel like daycares do naps too late, but in my experience my kid has always napped about 3 hours after waking up in the morning.
I agree that naps shouldn't stop until closer to age 5. We always have ups and downs with naps. Sometimes she doesn't sleep at all but she still goes in there and lays in her bed until I come back and get her.
She will likely continue to have quiet time in her room even after she stops napping. This is for my own sanity.
Damn, all these toddlers that sleep so much! Mine has never been the sleeping kind.... There is no way she would take a nap before 11, some days she's not even tired at 1. bsouls I think your kid is super unsual!!
Mine only seems to need 13/14 hours sleep in total. I can count the number of 3 hour naps she's taken in her whole life, on one hand, lol. There is no way we make it to age 4. I'll be surprised if she is still napping at 3. I mean, if I can get quiet time happen that'd be great, but if I have to chose between a nap and going to bed at a reasonable time, I chose the early bed every time.
DD is a great sleeper. in bed at 8, asleep usually by 8:45, sometimes longer. I read 3 books then kiss her goodnight and leave. I don't return even if she is calling for me. She will sleep to about 7:30-8 on the weekends. Daycare puts them down for a nap by noon and she is usually awake by 2. On weekends I try to keep that schedule but it does not always happen. If she has a late nap I wake her by 4, which is never a great idea, she is a hellion for 15-30 minutes until she finally wakes up more.
DD needs a nap these days. When she was on a 2 nap schedule she could do without a nap and be fine at night. Now she needs it. Even if we get home at 2:30 and have a late lunch, I put her down and let her sleep until 5. Then she is in bed by 7:30.
