I think most of the recall of non-Malm stuff is to cover their asses. Any dresser made by any company should be anchored because it's a tip hazard. IKEA or not. The Malm dressers are just exceptionally prone to tipping.
Are we sure about this? Because K has this dresser in her room and it's over 30" as indicated in the recall.
We have this dresser as well and after anchoring it, I tried to tip it and I seriously don't think he would be able to.
My mom watches C during the day. We let her know we are starting BLW and that we'd let her know what she could start feeding C as we got things figured out. So far, she's only had purees - fruits and veggies. We started BLW this weekend and she has puffs, carrots, avocado. That's it. My mom sent me a photo just now of her feeding C strawberry jello. I am not happy. I called her to ask what she was doing and she minimized my frustrations, said "it's sugar free, and she barely got any in her mouth anyway". I let her know DH and I are trying to be very intentional with what we offer and move slowly with BLW. I'm so angry about this. Am I overreacting?
Not over reacting. Whatever you and your husband choose to do is your prerogative as parents and it sucks when people go against it.
estakis - Nope, not overreacting. You gave her specific instructions and she didn't follow them. Plus, artificial sweeteners are not healthy and people can have nasty reactions to them (raises hand), just like someone can have a bad reaction to wheat, soy, name your good allergen. A couple weekends ago, I told my ILs no cake, ice cream, or other sweets. Apparently whip cream does not count as "other sweets."
I seriously considered quitting my job today. And my marriage. I'll just settle for some wine tonight. Time to start buying lotto tickets?
At least my daughter is going through a manically goofy stage, so I laugh every day.
Thanks for the validation guys. I'm just frustrated because I just had a conversation with her about C's eating. Over the weekend she told me she bought graham cracker goldfish for C. I let her know we weren't quite there yet and that we'd give her guidance on how and what to feed C. Not two days later...we have strawberry jello. Argh! At least if she's going to defy us she could feed her something with nutritional value.

I'd be angry too. Jello has nothing to do with BLW but it's definitely not something to give to babies, and I'm pretty sure that sugar-free almost makes it worse...I'd rather my kid had regular sugar than weird sweeteners. I'd be pissed.
Ggggrrrrrr! So I had my blood work done today by the most incompetent technician ever. She drew my blood, couldn't find me in the system and needed my insurance card and ID to add me to the system. Whatever. So H and I leave the office to head home (45 minutes away). She calls me not once, not twice, but 3 effing times about information she forgot to get. She needs to me fax her a picture of my insurance card and ID because she forgot to do it. We don't have a scanner or fax so I have to track one down. Then, she just called again to tell me she drew the wrong kit and needs me to come ALL THE WAY back into town to redraw my blood with the correct kit. I'm effing pissed. That's 1.5 hours both ways and parking fees.
sandj918 That is horrible. I've never run into that kind of incompetence in a medical office and I've had my share of stupid stuff from the local clinic.

I feel like Dani eats more like a toddler than a baby at this point. She gets table food and a puree for lunch at school each day, but the table food isn't things like avocado or other "usual" baby foods. She's had fish sticks, a chicken sandwich, burritos, pizza (all made from scratch in her school's kitchen, in healthy toddler-sized versions, and cut into pieces for her). And at dinner she just eats whatever we're eating. She still has her bottles and stuff, but this kid just adores food.

Asher is the same way. He much prefers what we're eating than baby food, but will tolerate purées if that's all we offer. At dinner out with family the other night he had a bit from everyone's plates and they were all stunned. He didn't turn anything down.
ETA: For however long this lasts, I'm going to milk this phase - it's super easy to just have him eat whatever we're eating. We still carry puffs, Mum Mums, Dried yogurt snacks and other kid treats and he still drinks 24ish ounces of breastmilk a day but this is way easy compared to how some of our nieces and nephews were at the transitional food age.

Val too! The only thing I spoon feed her is yogurt with peanut butter mixed in it. She eats whatever DS or we are eating. I tried a grilled cheese sandwich today & she loved it! The only baby food she eats are puffs & yogurt melts. She still nurses around every 3 hours or so. I actually think she is way past where DS was at this age food wise, he was just getting the hang of eating puffs at this age.

I have had so many moms stare at me in horror as I hand Avery massive pieces of food. Every kid develops at their own pace and, like Dani, A has prioritized food-oriented motor skills above all else.

charliefox - you have mom skills if you can get a sleep sack on a sleeping baby! J STTN and would wake if I tried doing that. We stopped putting him in a sleep sack when it started getting warm and just put him in a long or short sleeve onesie. Last night I put him in just a diaper but I was worried he was cold.
canadiansciencegeek - we have another IKEA dresser (not the malm) in J's room. Are they recalling all dressers or just the malm? I didn't pay attention to the recall since its anchored but if they are saying all dressers don't meet the criteria, I'm going to be pissed.
ntaylor989 - hope S feels better! J gets a rash that is just a fever rash according to my pedi. He has one now. Could he just have that and not rosella?
estakis - definitely not overreacting. Do you send foot with C (or prepare it if your mom comes to your house)? Then it can be very specific about what C should have.
txshep - is Dani chewing? J eats tiny pieces of our food, but if he throws up, it looks like he is swallowing everything whole. He moves stuff around his mouth for ages but doesn't seem to get the chewing concept.

eliza040502, my understanding is that the Malm specifically doesn't meet the voluntary tip standards set by the industry. All the other dressers they are recalling are being done out of an abundance of caution (read: if it's anchored, it's no worse than any other dresser made by anyone else). But I could be wrong.
London - A prefers big pieces she can suck on or bite off. The only way I could get puree down last night was to dip crackers in it. If I make baby sized chunks, she just throws them. Puffs being the exception, because puffs are from God.

Yes! She chews, but it took some practice for her to get the hang of it. For a while she would cram too much in her mouth, or bite off massive pieces, and gag all of the time when she tried to swallow them. I think it just clicked one day. She still sometimes gets food too far back and it triggers her gag reflex, but she now moves it forward with her tongue and chews it up more, when that happens. She also is on the verge of having 8 teeth in the front, and her eating/chewing improves with each additional tooth that comes in.
sandj918 WTF!!!! Did she at least feel bad for her incompetence?
txshep I love that Arthur eats all kind of food. I usually feed him leftovers and will sometime add half a pouch if he hasn't eaten that much fruits or veggies.
He just had noodles with cheese melted in it and brocoli for dinner and watermelon for dessert
As we were getting on our first flight, an elderly lady on oxygen at the front of the plane (who BTW we weren't even sitting near) said, 'Ugh - why would you bring a baby on a plane? I can't believe the airlines let them. How rude for the rest of us.'
She's lucky I had my hands full with baby and bags and coffee otherwise I would've flipped her off.

Yes, so rude of you. How dare you bring a baby on a plane!
Allie eats like a toddler, mostly because she gets Ben's scraps, lol. He will start an apple, then I hand it over to her. She gets her leftover PB sandwiches. They both chow down on their own cheesesticks. And they both eat their own veggies. But I don't have the mental capacity or desire to carry around pouches or puffs. Plus, our grocery bill would be insane if I bought them, because then Ben would want puffs and pouches, and he hasn't had a pouch in well over a year. Anything the baby has, though, he has to have, lol.
M eats like a person and has only rejected salmon, which she loved the first time we gave it to her. I won't say she eats like a toddler since most of the toddlers I know eat a very specific and short list of foods. We are enjoying M's varied tastes immensely since she will probably be like most toddlers and refuse 90% of it in a year! I had high hopes that watching M eat would expand A's palate a bit. No such luck, unfortunately!

J still has a low fever - 100.3. But he feels so much warmer. He napped for over 5.5 hours today with the sitter. Normally, we are lucky to get two hours worth of naps. He didn't even want to play, just wanted to rest. We have his 9 month apt on Thursday but I'm debating calling the doctor tomorrow since it's been 24 hours and he is so tired. I hate when he's sick.
Woo hoo! The supervisor at the blood work lab just called me to apologize and offered for a technician to drive to my house and draw my blood. Nice! No 1.5 hour drive with parking fees tomorrow!

Ha. I almost put the caveat that I am extremely fortunate that Ben is not a typical toddler eater. He loves sushi and salads and hot sauce and curry. He loves chicken and fries and Mac and cheese, too. But so far, the only thing he consistently refuses is green beans. We're just enjoying it while it lasts. And fully aware that we will probably not get so lucky twice, lol.
Damnit! Even after I read about all these allergy concerns, I fed F puréed lo mein chicken tonight. I was so excited that he downed real people food that I forgot it has soy in it, which he hasn't had. He ate it at 630 and it's almost 8 and he just went down. Should I check on him every so often? If its anaphylactic it should happen within the first hour right?
We offer whatever we are eating and more what I consider toddler foods as well. Mr. P is getting picky tho and will look me in the eye as he picks up his certain food he decides he doesn't want or no longer likes then drops it on the floor. Or he will put the food in his mouth and blow raspberries at me, which makes the food go everywhere. My dog is in heaven but I'm not enjoying wiping the cabinets and kitchen floor 3-4 times a day.
We are at the same place except he feeds the dog everything, whether he likes it or not. So I'm still spoon feeding everything.
I've tried yogurt melts and he acts like I'm poisoning him. They are delicious, I don't understand my child.

Soy lechtin is in a ton of foods, including most puffs. I'd be surprised if he hasn't had soy already, unless you were purposefully avoiding it. Soy allergies are very rare (.4 %).
In my experience, A's anaphalactic reactions begin within minutes.
