PDQ, I will poof pics later*****
I can't believe I am writing this right now. Last Tuesday morning I walked into L&D with my husband as a couple and left Friday with my new family. My rainbow is here!
My report time was bright and early on Tuesday at 6:30am. I barely slept the night before and of course, BebeWaffles didn't help and I ended up getting sick a couple times from acid reflux. We arrived at the hospital on time and got checked in. Immediately I got hooked up to monitors to check for contractions and baby's heart rate and then a nurse came in to confirm baby's position. Anesthesia came in and confirmed everything and decided to do a combined spinal/epidural since I was having a secondary surgery of having dermoid cysts removed from my ovaries at the same time and they weren't sure how long it would take so having the epi ready would give the opportunity to give a boost if I started to feel stuff.
Finally we were ready and I walked to the OR and got on the table (that thing is tiny). I got the spinal and epi placed and then they immediately laid me down to start letting the meds take effect. Apparently baby made my lady parts difficult to work with because the nurse had a very difficult time placing my urine catheter and involved getting 3 other nurses to troubleshoot. It took what felt like 30 minutes, but finally it was done. In the meantime I started to freak out a little with the side effects of the spinal; my blood pressure dropped a lot and I felt really foggy and nauseated. It eventually passed and my husband was brought in and just having him there calmed me a lot.
They put up the drape and started the procedure. Within a few minutes, the surgeon asked if we were ready to meet our baby and within 10 seconds I heard my sweet baby's first wails. All of a sudden, the drape lowered slightly and my surgeon held him up for me and MH to see. They took him away to clean/assess and I told MH to go with them. He went over and while they did that, my anesthesiologist sat by me and narrated everything they were doing. MH came back to me and showed me pictures and by then, the nurse came over and brought him to me and put him on my chest. They helped me breastfeed while the secondary surgery began. It took another 20 ish minutes and we were done.
We went to recovery and I was able to hold him by myself for the first time. He was so tiny and peaceful. The c-section delayed my milk, but A took to my breast fairly well. We did have to supplement his feeds in the hospital as he lost 12% of his birth weight but we had a weight check on Saturday with great improvement so those ended. Sunday/yesterday my milk finally came in and feeds are much speedier.
Now we are home and he is doing well. MH and I are adjusting pretty well too, and are just happy in the baby bliss.
TL;DR: Baby Boy A was born on 6/21 at 9:07am, 8lbs 1 ounce, 20 inches long and doing great.
