This is the name of my H's great aunt who passed just shy of 102 years old. We both loved her and her spitfire personality. He wants to name the baby Mary Ellen after her, but I'm not sold. I think we have a lot of other gorgeous names on our list. I have no problem honoring her with the name; I just am not keen on Mary Ellen.
I am generally not a fan of double barrel fn, but this one sounds nice to my ears. I would still go for another of your listed names and use Mary Ellen as a middle name. You could hyphenate it so that it goes together and doesn't just seem like 2 different middle names

Mary is one of my least favourite girl names but I will concede that Mary Ellen does have a nice ring to it. You have a great list of girl names that are better than ME. I would put Ellen in the middle name spot.
It sounds extremely stale to me, and very unlike the names you love. There are a million variations on Mary, so I would use one of those as either the fn or the mn.

Now he's insistent on Maria Elena if we have a Hispanic/Latina child. I prefer that to Mary Ellen, but I like my pick of Evangelina Catherine much more.
It's very John Boy to me. Anyone else get that reference?
I'd stick it in the mn spot.
This was my first thought! Still love that show.
I'd probably just use classic, sweet, dignified Mary as an honoring middle name. Juliet Mary, Luna Mary, Catherine Mary and Evangeline Mary (too religious?) sound great to my ears. Juliet Mary, especially, is just divine.
