I'm sorry cbrandt1 - that has to be so stressful. Maybe a compromise with your H makes sense (as long as safety isn't a concern). We just moved and decided to make the upstairs (where all the bedrooms are) - dog free. I just couldn't stand the dog hair and dirt everywhere and I wanted a clean space that would be dog free for the kids. Our dog has free reign of the downstairs and we are definitely always working on the relationship between my toddler and the dog. In fairness, my dog is a smallish beagle so I get there are a lot more issues at play for you. Either way....hugs I can't imagine how hard this decision must be.
See to me, if we aren't going to allow him in half of the house where we will spend half of our time, then what's the point in keeping him? I just feel like it will be so upsetting for him. But I would love for his black hair to not be all over the white carpeted stairs and upstairs!! From stairs up is carpeted and I hate vacuuming stairs!!
Safety has been a bit of an issue, but it was accidental. DS was loving on Remus and he was trying to love back and laid on him. By the time I was able to pull D out from under him, D was starting to turn blue!! Also, his dew claws are like sharp daggers. He's very pawsy and got D in the forehead with one and he's got a pretty good cut from it. Had he gotten an inch lower, Remus would've gotten Dec's eye. But nothing has been intentional. The only time he tried to get the baby was in the first week we brought him home and he got hiccups. Newborn hiccups sound like a squeaky toy and it was a very intense moment. But never aggressive.
