If LO isn't rolling yet, it's personal preference about when you want to just get it over with! We didn't have a choice because my stinker started rolling.
For us, it was about 10 days of super sucky sleep. Now it's hit or miss.
If he did well without being swaddled last night, I'd probably just roll with it. Now's as good a time as any
This. I stopped swaddling L on a whim awhile back just to see how she'd do and she actually slept better. Worth a shot, especially since it likely won't be too long before he starts rolling.

I was actually going to post about this today! E is 20 weeks and will not sleep without the swaddle. Ugh. He's not rolling but daycare won't swaddle him and he starts in a week and a half. He still has his startle reflex and wakes up immediately. Hellppp. Do we just let him CIO??

This is tough. I think most sleep advice sites will say CIO method isn't advised until closer to 6 months. Have you tried a sleep sack or other methods?
We tried the merlin and the zipadedip. nothing works! We get through one sleep cycle sometimes but then tears until the swaddle. sigh.

It can be rough for a little while, but eventually they figure it out. S was an awful sleeper for a couple of weeks after we stopped swaddling, but now he's a pretty decent sleeper.

How did you get LO to sleep without the swaddle? We FF so I can't nurse to sleep...

ETA: I totally hijacked this thread. So sorry!
does your LO take a paci? I can sometimes trick LO if I put in a paci & hold her tight while we rock. As long as the paci stays in her mouth she can usually be transferred easily to her crib.
xxkimmy8xx you may have already said this but do you use the Rock N Play? We stopped swaddling but still used that and it worked great. It was just snug enough that it helped stop the startle reflex. We then moved to the crib when he started to roll. It was a rough few nights as he figured that out but now he will fall asleep in our arms with rocking and a pacifier. We lay him down on his back and he them rolls over immediately on his belly.
Long story short the Rock N play is amazing.
Oooo that would have been great! E's been in his crib since 10 weeks. We should have transitioned both at the same time.
Only had to get up approx three more times to put his paci back so I call this experiment a win. Went a good 4-5 hour stretch without fussing. On to the next night...
Mostly unrelated but because of the torticollis the physical therapist said to have LO nap on her belly to stretch out the right side of her neck. She napped for 1.5 hours which is the longest she's gone in a few weeks. She can't roll over but has good chest/arm strength so I wouldn't do it at night but I think it might be helpful to adjust to arms out. I think she likes the light pressure on her belly/fronts of her arms. She certainly flailed her arms around less than usual.
xxkimmy8xx sometime the daycare workers have their own tricks for getting kids down, so you could be worrying for nothing. My daughter would never go down in the crib at home, but would at daycare.
I saw this a few days ago. My concern with it is that the baby's head can tuck too much, therefore cutting off the air passage. Like that baby that was left unattended, swaddled in the car seat at daycare.
xxkimmy8xx we nurse to sleep most nights, but since he's been taking the bottle more with me back at work he likes to be bounced and swayed until he's almost asleep and then I put him down. LO can also roll over now so he usually rolls immediately to his side or his tummy for sleeping.

First nights both arms out were 8:30-5 and 8:00-4. He usually goes till like 7 or 7:30 but when I tried to put him back down after eating he wanted nothing to do with it, haha. Sooo I swaddled him both times and he slept till 8. Am I teaching him bad things? Should I just suck it up? If I dont get him back down, I'll have a cranky boy.
Poor guy has a cold or allergies or something going on. Back in the RNP for the night. So far not swaddled and sleeping away... Mommy might not be so tough tonight if he starts fussing

Wow, crazy. Ethan has a cold now too. So sad. Back to his swaddle last night and he still got up a bunch. First cold is no fun.
I am going to try and get him out of the Merlin sleepsuit this weekend. I'm scared. It's going to be rough.
You never know, some babies are just much better at transitioning than others. E is almost 5 months so I'm debating sleep training him this weekend and just hoping for the best.
How's it going lovemyk ? Last night was rough for us... Up at 1:45 and wouldn't go down till 4:30 and then we gave in and swaddled. Ughhh.. haha
Actually pretty good, but he's been in the RNP the last 4 or 5 nights (unswaddled) bc of congestion issues. The last few nights no wake ups! Now I'm scared to go back to the crib though
Hoping to make it through the night without the Merlin. I have the next 4 days off so I'm hoping by Monday he'll be out of it. Had to rock him back to sleep 5 times... Keep FX for me.
GL. LO rolled over twice already tonight onto her belly.
