Breakfast: greek yogurt with blueberries, a pancake, a sausage patty and half a banana.
Lunch: today they are having tater tot hotdish, green beans, pears and cottage cheese.
Dinner: we are having chili, but it isn't spicy so I'll see if she likes it. If not, I'll make her probably a turkey dog, some mixed veggies, and a plum.
Snacks: I didn't look at the snacks at DC today. Yesterday, she had yogurt as a morning snack, and cheese and crackers in the afternoon.
Questions? My only concern is if she's self regulating or not. She eats huge portions, every day. She's never gotten sick, but dammmnnn she can tuck it away.

Breakfast: whole milk yogurt, water, and fruit or puffs.
Lunch: Corn turkey dogs, peas, and pears
Dinner: Pork loin and green beans
Snacks: Cheese and fruit.
2-4 oz bottles, 3 nursing sessions (considering pushing the night weaning). Homegirl is CLEAR when she's done. She eats everything, but she doesn't really eat a lot. Since she started walking she's losing weight. I'm trying not worry, but I wonder if it's really the best idea to cut out the nighttime nursing session.

Snacks: he probably won't have any snacks today, just BM/formula. We use puffs and mum-mums to keep him occupied at times though.
Questions? He is not the best chewer and chipmunks his food. Last night his mouth got so full that he didn't really know what to do with himself. Should I be doing anything or will he just eventually figure it out?
For the chipmunk- maybe try giving him only a few pieces on his tray at a time?
I have to give Ophelia only a handful at a time for different reasons- she will feed the dog. But maybe that would help? Then don't offer more until he has chewed and swallowed?
Lunch: Chicken (about an ounce?) and peas leftover from last night or baked spaghetti and meat
Dinner: Carnitas, avocado, pinto beans
Snacks: Maybe some puffs or yogurt melts, we usually just nurse in the afternoon
Questions? Is this enough food? She usually doesn't even eat all of that but she still nurses quite a bit. She is gaining appropriately. Sometimes she'll keep food in her mouth for a half hour or longer and suck on it lol.

bluebird44, DD1 was a chipmunk cheeker, and we just left her to figure it out unless she was getting to the point of choking herself, then we took her food away until she finished what was in her mouth. She figured it out on her own 90% of the time.
Some of our regular meals. Breakfast: Oatmeal, Banana and cheerios, yogurt and grapes, toast with tangerines, scrambled eggs
Lunch: usually a plate of finger foods but sometimes wraps, soup, supper leftovers,
Dinner: whatever we're having just tailored to her; shredded meats, loves potatoes in any form, a big fan of quesadillas and any pasta, pizza
Snacks: BM, mini rice cakes, fruit, cheese,
Questions: She is not picky by any means, but she's giving me a hard time on veggies. She's not a fan of tomatoes unless they are cooked, not a fan of corn/peas/cucumber or really any of the basics, will only eat carrots if they are cooked in a crock pot or soup with other foods presumably because they then don't taste much like carrots. I hid veggies for DD1 but didn't need to until she was much older and used smoothies, but baby doesn't drink them fast enough to get any real amount in. How do you hide veggies for babies (she's not a huge fan of purees or that would be my go to)?

Breakfast: bananas and oatmeal Lunch: chicken breast and a vegetable puree dinner: whatever we're having. I try to give him the finger food veggies first because once he has meat, he'll throw it to the ground snacks: BM, cheerios and puffs
same as kensie5226, you know when he's done with food b/c it cannot be anywhere near him. he'll throw everything off to the side. Sometimes he just drops it to the floor, other times he chucks them across the room...fun...
Lunch: pasta with peas and squash and a puree of pear and broccoli
Dinner: thinking of trying tofu cubes tonigh. Ill also dice some avocado and fruit too
Snacks: usually fruit or cheerios or puffs.
Questions: I'm going to make some pancakes with purred veggies in them for the kids. When you make pancakes for babies, do you still use milk in the mix or should I try to keep it dairy free?

i'm beginning to think K needs to start eating more meals........
Breakfast: BM/formula bottles. He'll eat like mini pancakes on the weekend
Lunch: Whatever we had for dinner the night before. Today he has rotisserie chicken with a side of mac & cheese
Dinner: We're having a breakfast bake tonight - hash browns, eggs, onion and ham
Snacks: usually stinky puffs as our daughter calls it. aka Kale & spinach puffs
Questions? For those of you on 3 meals a day how did you decide they were ready to eat more solids and less milk? I know K would eat more if we let him, but I thought we were supposed to do more milk until one so we've been limiting him to 1-2 meals a day

bluebird44 -- K used to chipmunk his food. I know this is gonna sound weird, but once he gagged a few times from doing that he got a lot better and started chewing better. But I had to let him gag.
littleredfish -- K usually goes for the veggies, but I figure for now it's mostly just taste and texture and to get them trying a variety of stuff rather than worrying too much about a well balanced meal. I could be completely wrong though.
samelly -- i figure they can eat cheese and things like that so why not make pancakes with milk. That's different than a whole cup of milk anyway.
Post by kensie5226 on Sept 7, 2016 14:44:44 GMT -5
samelly, I use milk. The reason they don't recommend milk for kids under 1 is because the amount they'd have to drink to replace BM or formula would be more than they can process. A little milk in pancakes is fine. We'ev even given her an ounce of chocolate milk to try (she did not like it).

flyliceandcoffee, honestly I've just been following her lead. I'm fine with less milk and more food. My pedi said it's normal to start dropping feeds and to follow her lead. I don't agree with recommendation for all babies that "food before one is just for fun" I think all babies are different and my kid started holding out for meals long before we started giving them to her. I tried cutting down on the meals, but she didn't start drinking more bottles.

I think that makes total sense. If she's holding out for food and not drinking more bottles then that's a good reason to just start giving more food. If we give K more food he'll drink less, but if we give him less food, he drinks more so that's kinda why we've just been sticking to 1-2 meals a day. He only recently added in the 2nd meal a couple weeks ago because we could not keep him awake long enough to eat!

We started with 3 puree meals pretty much from the start. In the beginning she didn't eat much at all 3. She switched herself to finger foods and just flat out started to refuse purees.
She's reduced bottles on her own for the most part. We cut her morning bottle last week bc she was only drink 1-2 oz out of 6. She hasn't missed it. She's starting to do the same with her 1pm bottle too.

We have both the chipmunk and feed the dogs problems over here She literally seems like she's throwing her food on the floor to the dogs. I have to try SO DAMN hard not to laugh. It cracks me up. I've been trying to gently teach "no" She also just shovels food in her mouth until she chokes

At every meal we start with a protein and then add veggies and/or fruit and a carb. We aim for 1 non-animal protein a day and 2 servings of dairy, and at least something high in good fats... All this to say i try to get everything in but some days they hate all veggies or all proteins or whatever and I try to just go with it: Breakfast: eggs with buttered toast and fruit or yogurt with fruit and Cheerios/pancakes. They LOVE eggs and this is usually the biggest meal of their day Lunch: black beans or chickpeas with avocado, cheese, frozen peas or diced carrots, a fruit purée Dinner: deli meat or turkey meatballs, sweet potatoes, zucchini and mushrooms (weirdos) Snacks: Cheerios, goldfish, yogurt melts, raisins, applesauce, graham crackers, animal crackers...
We probably do one meal every other day on the go. Those meals are usually mostly pouches, maybe with a cheese stick. Usually a pouch with veggies, protein and/or some pet of carb and a second pouch with fruit and veggies, and then applesauce or snack foods if they are still hungry. Some days they will each eat 8-10oz worth of pouches when we're out.
If anyone has a recommendation for stopping the "tray sweep" I'll take it. They used to do it when they were finished eating but now I think they think it's funny and I'm putting food in a suction bowl to keep them from just throwing everything.

My little dude will eat anything you put in front of him. Sometimes it's hard to tell when he's done, because he'll usually keep eating if I keep putting it on his tray. Which is fine, in theory, but sometimes I wonder if it gives him an upset stomach at night. So we're constantly trying to figure out amounts. But, roughly, here's a typical day.
Breakfast: Fruit & cheerios. Usually a pear, or peach, or a banana. Yes. He eats a whole one most days. He doesn't really like eggs but we keep trying them.
Lunch: Whatever I can scrounge up. A lot of times that's fruit + peanut butter toast + yogurt, other times leftovers from the night before. At school he gets school lunch, so it can be anything from a sunbutter rollup to chicken nuggets. No idea. Usually fruit, veggie, some sort of dairy or other protein.
Dinner: Whatever we're having. Usually some sort of meat (chicken, burger, pork, etc), veggie (peas are his JAM), carb of some sort (tortillas, bread, pasta, rice, etc.) fruit and yogurt. He DOMINATES some tomatoes, and since we have fresh ones from my mom's garden this week he's had those every day. Kid loves tacos, too, and beans (although they give him gas so that's a no-go at dinner time right now)
Questions? I think if anything I'm relying too heavily on fruits and veggies, and maybe he's not feeling full enough. I've been pushing yogurt lately because he loves it and with all the antibiotics he's been on I'm hoping it helps with his gut. But outside of yogurt and cheese I'm struggling with fatty foods to give him. He doesn't dig avocados - something about how they feel if I had to guess. He entertained them smashed on toast, but didn't dig in like he does with everything else.

We still aren't super huge into eating actual food but she's getting there.
Breakfast is usually cheerios, pancake, or waffles, and occasionally yogurt but it doesn't work most of the time.
Lunch she loves noodles and is just getting into cheese
Dinner I've been trying to do more of what we eat. Again, she loves pasta so that's always an option. She also loves black beans and really enjoyed the ground turkey from the insides of the stuffed peppers last night. She also really enjoyed the bread sticks the other night.
Snacks we also do cheerios and I found whole grain goldfish that she absolutely loves.
ldubhawksfan, I have faith she'd let you know (loudly) if she were hungry!
I think I have a unicorn child who prefers veggies to anything else. She eats them first.
My 2.5 year old loves fruits and veggies more than anything. I have to cut her off sometimes or she will get sick and we have to really try for meat and such.
I see I'm behind because we just started adding a 3rd meal on the weekends. She takes the same amount of BM bottles though.
Breakfast (what we just added): cereal, banana, sometimes eggs
Lunch: 2 oz of purees, usually veggies. Puffs and yogurt melts
Dinner: another 2 oz of purees, some of the meat from our meal, puffs and melts.
Smacks: she usually doesn't eat too many snacks
Questions: I guess how do I know if I'm starving her?!
if you're behind, so are we! K only started getting breakfast this past weekend and that was only because he would get so mad seeing his sister eating when he didn't have something to eat as well.
And I don't think you'd be starving her in any event since if she's not eating enough solids to make her full, she's making it up with milk.
kensie5226, peas, carrots, and sweet potatoes are the most likely to be eaten around here. They would probably eat more veggies but so far A gets HORRIBLE gas from anything green and W can't eat squash. Oh and A can't eat corn... ldubhawksfan, our pedi pointed out that starving children don't sleep and shed worry when their rolls disappeared. Mine yell if you try to stop a meal before they're full! allycat, mine would crush a whole banana if I let them! But they make them constipated so they only get half. As for fatty foods, I put butter/oil on everything. Also, have you tried chunks of avocado? W won't touch it mashed...
Can I have your recipe for these veggie pancakes??
