Wow there's a flood of these this week.
Posting from mobile while H snores in the little bench bed of our post partum room and I try to decide of this little gals has pooped or just farted.
We checked in for induction around 7:30, got back to our room and got settled in by 8pm. Then came getting into a gown, trying to get an IV into me, etc. Turns out I was still only at 3cm and 50% effaved. Finally, the on call doc ordered up cytotec for me around 9pm. H and I settled in to wait, watching bad Animal Planet TV. Unfortunately, the contractions I had earlier that day came back, so by the time the pharmacy at the hospital sent the original prescription, I was contracting with too much regularity to take it. So finally they got me started with Cervadil around midnight.
For the next few hours things were pretty tame. Contractions got a little heavier, TV got more boring, etc. Wasn't really able to get any sleep except here and there in brief little snippets.
Around 3am they came by and checked my cervix. I had progressed to 4cm, so the removed the Cervadil and started me on an IV of antibiotics for GSB+. Contractions were still going strong at that point, but tapered off a bit around 5:30a, which let me get about an hour of sleep in the glider that was in our room.
At 7 my OB came on and checked me again. At that point I was 5.5cm and 80% effaced. Still making progress, but slowing down on contractions. So she ordered the pitocin started. Queue contractions starting like crazy.
Labored for a good while, with the pitocin dosage altering up and down to keep me at a solid 2-3 minutes between contractions, which were also getting more intense as we went.
All the while, I figured I'd order the epidural when things got to a pain point that I couldn't handle.
Around noon the nurse assigned to us convinced me to try laboring in the shower and that was glorious. Though we did end up increasing my dosage of pitocin after because contractions slowed down again. Finally around 1p I started feeling a lot of pressure and this uncontrollable panic. Turns out I'd hit the transition stage.
By this point I was exhausted. Barely more than an hour or two of sleep in the prior 36, plus all the labor. I got stuck at some point with just a small little lip of my cervix that just would not give up. They wanted me to try lying on my side but it made me nauseous and just felt 10 times worse than on my back. I was apparently really starting to fade, according to H. They ended up offering me fetanol just so I could get through to the end. I guess I slept a little then because I woke up and just HAD to push. They grabbed my OB and the party started.
Couple big pushes and she was here!
Ka therine Julia, born 9/12 at 2:08p. She was 6lbs, 9.6oz and 20.75 inches at birth. Tall and skinny. My OB actually complimented me on keeping my GD under control so well, since she was smaller than anyone thought she'd be. Already a total sweetheart, sleeping as well as can be expected considering she eats every 3 hours and poops in between.
