My letdown is so freakin fast. Poor baby can not keep up! Even if I unlatch during letdown and let it spray into a towel her suck is so strong she gets so much milk at once! There's nothing I can really do about this right?? Im assuming as she gets bigger she'll be able to handle the flow better.
Like danizee, I will sometimes adjust to a modified football hold or reclining position so she doesn't get as overwhelmed. She will get better as she gets older though even my toddler can be overwhelmed by my letdown right now #areyounew?

Yea...I think I'm definitely dealing with oversupply on my left. I wonder if I did this to myself trying to avoid nursing on the right over the weekend due to the sore nipple. Really hoping it settles down a quickly as it seems to have come on.
How long after feeding DD should I wait to pump? I'm starting my internship in 2 weeks so my LC recommended that I start pumping at 4 weeks (today) to build up a stash of milk. I didn't ask when or for how long and I want to make sure DD still gets what she needs during feedings.
Me: 28, all tests normal DH: 34, very low count, motility, morphology DX - MFI 11/14/09 - Married 01/01/14 - TTC #1 01/06/15 - Started working with RE 04/06/15 - Recommendation - straight to IVF w/ICSI 09/04/15 - Started working with new RE Nov/Dec 15 - IVF w/ ICSI #1 - 11R/8F - 1 transferred, 3 frozen

rufus426, Before returning to work, I pumped after a morning nursing session when DS would take his longest nap of the day.
danizee, I wish I could figure out how to nurse lying down! I tried the last 2 nights at 4am when E wouldn't go back in her crib and was just uncomfortable and felt like she was chomping my nipples.. I'm not sure she got much milk out of it. I'm going to try and practice for some naps to see if I can figure it out.
How long did it take your milk to come in? And does everyone get engorged?
We're on day 3, heading into day 4 this afternoon and I dont think mine has come in yet. DD is losing too much weight so we've had to begin some supplementation to buy us another day or two to see if it comes in. I think my breastfeeding journey is coming to it's end.

My LC has me pumping right after feedings, but that's partly to try and increase my supply. If your supply is OK and you're trying to avoid creating an oversupply, I read that you should wait 30 to 60 minutes after feeding. Save

K was born Monday, my milk came in late Thursday. We've been supplementing with formula the whole time - but don't lose hope, I'm still BF'ing her, just giving her a bottle with some formula after she gets all she can from me. Her pedi says as long as she's getting *some* breast milk she's getting all the benefits of it. My supply fluctuates up and down and is super sensitive to little changes in our routine, so I'm 90% certain that I'll always be supplementing with formula. But we do what we have to do. Save

rufus426 - My LC had said 20 min to an hour after so pretty much in agreement with what pismoduo read.

R was born Tuesday morning, my milk came in Friday (day 4), Saturday I was pretty engorged. It started regulating from there.
My milk came in super early this time - LO was born early Saturday morning, and milk was in by Monday morning. I had some engorgement for a few days, but my supply already seems to be regulating (LO will be 2 weeks tomorrow). Still leaking and a bit engorged if LO does a long stretch of sleep.

Yea im not playing that game this time. I did the feed- bottle-pump routine with ds for 2 weeks. I didn't respond to the pump so it was ultimately futile.
jennybeans I feel like it's a lot of trial and error. Sometimes it's easier for me to have my arm under her. Like if I'm laying on my right side I'll have my right arm hooked around under her body. This allows me to prop up on the right elbow while latching and use my left hand to get the best latch.
@snuff9861 with my first pregnancy my milk didn't come in until the 5th day. With this one it came in 2.5 days later. My first pregnancy I didn't even know my milk came in because I wasn't engorged at all, the only way I knew was because I just started leaking everywhere. This time my breasts were a lot bigger and firm but not painful

I was just doing this! I guess eventually she will be bigger / have more head control to be able to latch without my arm there but not sure we are at that point yet. I did manage to nurse her but it takes us wayy longer like this and she woke as soon as I tried to move my arm. We will keep practicing - Im hoping this will make the last part of the night less of a fight for us! I feel a little more comfortable on my right but my left feels so awkward!

My left side is my bad side too! Hopefully she gets used to it and let's you sleep! I usually fall asleep with my arm under her. It makes me feel better that way because if she moves it wakes me and I it also reminds me she is right next to me so I don't move either!

I'm with you, lady. I told myself from the beginning that I wouldn't be doing that again because it's just harder with two kids. I've already started supplementing but hope to nurse for at least a few months (I take it week by week though) even if it's just a little. I nurse each side then give him a 2oz bottle of formula. I do plan to pump some, just not on a crazy schedule.

I do pretty much the same thing as you do. I had told myself that this time I wouldn't bother with the pumping because it didn't do much and it's too much with two kids. I have no regrets.

This is me too. With DS I gave up nursing at 2w to EP bc it was just too long of a routine. I barely pump this time and id she's still hungry I give some formula to tide her over. I'd rather spend more time with DS than hooked to a pump in the bathroom
When LO sleeps a 3+ hr stretch at night, I'm afraid to sleep on my side after 3 hrs for fear of leakage. I just lay there uncomfortable on my back. Does anyone else do this or am I a weirdo

You're a weirdo 😘 Lol jk
Are you afraid of leakage bc you don't want to waste the liquid gold?

kerbear, maybe you could try one of those milkies things? It catches the milk. Sleep is as precious as milk, you don't want to be uncomfortable the whole time!
So if when I squeeze out drops its now white (has been since yesterday), does that mean my milk is in? If so then I'm so discouraged because there is no firmness and I can't express much, even with warm compresses and massage. I'll see what the midwife says this morning during her visit but I'm not hopeful. DD's latch is getting worse the more frantic she gets, which just serves to shred my nipples and dishearten me.

I'm so sorry you're struggling, @snuff9861, I hope the MW has good advice and help for you. It sounds like your milk is coming in, maybe it's just not all the way in yet? If BFing doesn't work out, though, please don't beat yourself up. You are trying your hardest and that's what matters. A happy LO and happy mommy is the most important thing.
Anyone else's bfed baby's poop/farts smell like rotten eggs? I asked what might be the cause on the breastfeeding board but wanted to check with y'all too. DS1's poop never stunk and actually smelled kind of oddly sweet. Graham's is the proper, mustardy color, but it's soft-servy and rank...
My ped said its something in your diet that would do it. Unfortunately in my case it went from rotten egg poops, to green mucus poops, to bloody poops and was a dairy allergy. But all of his poops were horrid smelling, it wasn't a one off thing and they had been like that from the beginning. Now that the dairy is out I still get the occasional smelly poop but it's usually the gas he omits while pooping not the poop itself.
