Dehydration is a factor, but I think the biggest issue is creating a calorie deficit. If you don't have enough extra calories to produce milk your supply will tank. Milk production is a nonessential function for our body so it's one of the first to go.
I often feel very conflicted about this. I want to lose weight and get back in shape but my supply isn't great to begin with. It sucks.
Honestly, from what I read moderate exercise isn't supposed to have any affect on milk supply so I think it's probably an old wives tale. But I was struggling very much the last few months to pump enough milk so I wasn't taking any chances, even if it was all in my head.
mommabakes , Have you found any healthy snacks you like? I've been trying to snack on fruit a little more. I also like hard boiled eggs for snacks but I'm often too lazy (or maybe busy?) to make them. I need more time in the day!
th3stryck3r , Great job on the weight loss! It's awesome that you're training for races. How do you make the time for exercise?
packmomma , I like that mentality of adding things like water, veggies, etc.. Any time you take things away it contributes to feelings of deprivation which is counterproductive. I try not to make any foods off limits completely so I'm not setting up an eventual binge somewhere down the line. Right now I'm trying to make small changes and not go off the deep end.
Sometimes you can find pre peeled hb eggs at convenience stores and i noticed my grocery store had a grab n go island near the deli that had a bag of them. Check superwalmart too.
aydee , do you ever make an unsweetened herbal iced tea? I like to drink this instead of plain water a lot. Lemon in the water is good too. You can also do cucumbers, or mint (or both of those together) or strawberries. You've got this!
I was focused with gazelle intensity on weight loss prior to ttc. But i stopped running as soon as we started trying ttc + holidays= 1st tri massive weight gain. I am within 10lbs of prepregnancy, but about 50lbs away from goal. It has been a constant struggle since i turned 35 to just not gain 5lbs every year. Right now i am loosely following No S diet No sweets No seconds No snacks Except days that start with S Avoiding snacks is hard, i have a superlong day. Biggest challenge is making time for exercise, i walk out the door at 545 so early morning isnt happening. I wont take the jogger on my street, because no sidewalk or shoulder. So if i want to jog i need to pack him into the car and drive across town to rail trail. I should do this, but most days i bring bus home midday to cut down on car seat time. I should stop bringing the bus home but, i guess, but it does take away about 1/2hour of midday break. But midday break would be better if i had wheels. Decisions are hard. Tldr: i need to stop creating obstacles and start running again

Ok I'm frustrated. I had lost most of the baby weight (only 5 lbs to go) but since I stopped breastfeeding I've gained 15lbs back. I think liquids are a big issue for me, mostly fancy coffees because I'm drinking them too often. I'm going to try to switch to tea this week and see how that works.
It just makes me frustrated and sad. I know my diet is shit but that knowledge seems to do nothing lol.
I'm also struggling with exercise. I need to spin more, but I'm used to being a runner. Since I broke my leg I just can't get into it without pain, and now I feel like I'm starting over trying to figure out what the hell to do for exercise. Apparently I have lots of excuses haha. But seriously, I need to just do it.

I like the snack ideas suggested.
This is kind of how I've been feeling. I wish I had the motivation to really make changes. I'm trying to focus on small steps right now so I don't get overwhelmed.

I'm so terrible at sticking to healthy eating. Or, even if I am eating healthfully, I just want to eat constantly. Ugh.. I feel like I'm never going to lose this weight!

I'm going to start Whole 30 tomorrow with Parenting. I only made it a week last time, but I want to set up something more sustainable, like cooking paleo 80% of the time (during the week) and then whatever on weekends. I really am at a loss as to what to do. I mean I know what to do. But why can't I make myself?

this. Does h agree to eat paleo? Mine is coming around but sometimes i feel the primal dinner lacks the bulk he desires.
Laverne in theory he doesn't. If I cook it and say nothing about it's label he eats it haha. Sometimes I'll probably make some rice for them as a side..
I seem to have actually lost half a pound over the past week, mostly by limiting liquid calories and trying to choose healthy snacks. This is going to be slow but I'm okay with that as long as I'm moving in the right direction without depriving myself.
Last fall I was still wearing maternity clothes. I'm really hoping to lose enough to fit back onto my old clothes this fall so I don't need to buy a new fall wardrobe. It's starting to get cold and I still have a ways to go though. Probably another 4 to 5 lbs to start squeezing into my work pants.
I saw pictures of myself today, from a month ago. I'm so angry at myself for letting this even happen. Part of it is the birth control I went on after DD was born, and part is my terrible eating habits.
Anyway! I'm motivated. I'm ready to get this weight off. I need to lose about 20-30 pounds. I've been tracking calories for a couple months now, but I'm going to drop from 1500 calories to 1300 (I'm very tall) and start guzzling water like it's my job. I'm tired of being fat. I was 40 pounds thinner 6 years ago, and that's my ultimate goal. 10 at a time though. Gotta make it attainable!

Good luck mommabakes! I hear you for sure. It's hard though with babies and hormones and time.
1300 seems pretty low, especially if you're tall. Maybe put your weight and height into a calculator and see how many calories you would burn just existing. For me (I'm 5-9") it's around 1800. So anything over that is gaining and anything under is losing. Then factor in exercise. Just don't go hungry!

If you already did all this then ignore me haha
I'm 6'. I've put it into a few different calculators and get different answers on all of them :/ Do you have a calorie calculator that you trust?

I usually use the sparkpeople website. I lost 40lbs after my miscarriage and before ds with that site and it wasn't painful so I really liked it.
I have veggies, fruit, hard boiled eggs, pistachios, and salad ingredients for breakfast, lunches and snacks for the week. Plus I will be exercising today, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Plus all the water.
I am contemplating no alcohol Monday thru Thursday.

@janetheconquerer I'm doing no alcohol mon-thurs too. I'm doing all whole30 meals but I've had a granola bar, etc. I'm just focusing on crowding out the bad decisions with good ones so I don't bounce back from deprivation.
