Dog comes in wretching and lethargic. X-Ray shows something stuck in the intestines. Take dog to surgery. Doc removes one swanky pair of women's underwear. Saves them to show the owner (as we usually do). Fast forward to discharge time. Mom and dad come to pick up. Doc goes in the room, "Good news! It was just your underwear". Insert uncomfortable silence, horrified look on dad's face, angry mom's face.
Was not her underwear. Dad had been having an affair.

I have a foreign body story. My cat ate 3 condoms once. I tried to induce vomiting but was unduccessful so I dropped him off at the small animal clinic before work.
My boss (we're both equine vets) asked what was wrong with my cat. I told him he ate some string so I was worried about a linear foreign body. He told me that we weren't busy that day, so I should have brought him in. We could have scoped him and tried to get the string out.
I didn't want to admit what the cat actually swallowed, and certainly didn't want to go condom fishing with my boss. Luckily the cat passed them on his own .

I am totally imagining you getting the phone to work, sending it back, and someone unknowingly acquiring a refurbished phone that has been inside of a dog.
ok so I have a Christmas ornament in honor of a dog who ate something it shouldn't have.
It's a large snowman Christmas ornament. Dog ate it and since this was the dog who regularly ate whole birds and shoes and would poop them out or puke them up, we just waited and watched. 3 days later the dog puked up the snowman ornament in perfect condition...... dh wanted to put it back on the tree after washing it.
It was the boy snowman, so the girl snowman from the set is on the tree every Christmas to remember said dog. the boy ornament was disposed of. God that dog was insane, may she rest in piece.

@wineonice, I'm so glad your dog is ok, and my fingers are crossed for the phone!
I also have a dog + foreign object story: We were on vacation and a friend dog-sat our dog at her house while we were gone. All went fine, and my dog returned happy as ever after spending a week playing with my friend's dog.
A couple weeks later, he started wretching and coughed up an unidentifiable object. Upon closer inspection, it appeared to be a reindeer stuffed toy (I could make out one antler and a large red nose). I owned no such toy.
Turns out, a reindeer toy had gone missing at my friend's house and she just assumed her dog had hidden it somewhere. Nope. My dog ate it and kept it stored in his ginormous stomach just for me. Dogs are weird and gross.
My cat once ate 1 and 1/2 foam ear plugs. After paying $$$$ at the emergency vet, he refused to vomit until we took him home and he threw them up the next morning. They had swelled to bouncy ball size and he still got them up. There's hope!

My (small) dog secretly ate a 4" long piece of foam somewhere. We couldn't figure out why he was acting so sick, but since it was foam, no evidence on x-rays. We were in and out of the vet for over a week before having to do exploratory surgery to see what was going on in there. Sure enough! He's also fine now, but still dumb.
I agree with everyone, we all would have gone for the phone and your dog was just being a dog. Release the guilt!
Our lab poodle mix had a similar story twice (once he ate a large piece of a tennis ball and another time a plastic drain cover). The recovery was pretty fast each time, he came home once on day 2 after surgery and that day was rough but if your dog comes home Monday he should be in decent shape by then
You should plan for some way to keep him from licking his incision. We used a cone and a human tee shirt (we duck taped it around him).
