I have a question and I realize I'm probably over thinking it particularly since purées aren't a huge chunk of DSs day.
I mixed the sweet potato with breast milk like baby bullet booklet recommended but I didn't have enough in the fridge so I also had to use some water.
Since DSs dr is all about making sure he's getting calories with solids I was wondering. The baby bullet booklet says you can mix purées with formula and I have formula samples. Should I or could I do that? Or can I use whole milk? Or should I just stick with breast milk whenever I can and use water if need be?
Like I said, it's such a small part of his day I know I'm probably thinking too much about it haha
HAve you used formula at all yet? If no, I personally wouldn't mix it into my purées. I have been using water if I need to thin out what I've made. I don't think the little bit of formula you would add would add enough calories to matter. Totally just my opinion and no research to back it up.

He's only had a tiny bit at the very beginning when he wouldn't latch. So he hasn't really had any size able amounts

Definitely wouldn't use whole milk. Coconut milk or water maybe.

We tried our first solids tonight! Avocado!! B likes it, O was not having it. He fell asleep right after, so I think he just wasn't in the mood for something new. We'll try again tomorrow!
I've noticed I'm much more lenient with A on solids than I was with J. In addition to baby food she's had mashed potatoes, tiny pieces of steak, and unsalted soda crackers. I think MH has given her vanilla ice cream and goodness knows what the boy has offered her. It's a good thing food allergies don't run in our families.
I gave Cam some of the veggies from our chicken pot pie mashed up last night. I also gave him a little peanut butter with mashed banana. 4 hours later he was up screaming and puking. He seems ok today but both the toddler and I are under the weather with tummy troubles. So is it the same virus we have, too rich on the pot pie gravy (which he only had the little I couldn't scrape off) or an allergy? Ugh. Not looking for answers, just venting. I know we'll just have to try it again later.

DS is all about food. He can't get enough but I'm trying to keep it reasonable considering he's just getting started and we want to make sure he is still nursing frequently lol
We had cod and squash tonight. I think he may have actually swallowed some tonight. We need to get more consistent. We don't actually eat a formal dinner every night so we don't feed baby I every night. It would be a good habit to get into.

I read that as cod and squid. 😳 And I thought "wow baby I has a mire sophisticated diet than I do!"
I'm excited about Thanksgiving food for Ridley. My family is planning out what to make and who is bringing what and I'm getting really excited about the variety.
@led me too! teraiin lol at the sophisticated diet! Haha!
I'm trying to decide when to do peanuts again. Maybe this weekend? I'm nervous. I guess I'll just put a teeny amount in with the mashed banana this time. I'm guessing if he's allergic he'll get some reaction even from a small amount?
Lo gagged on some mashed up carrot at my parents but my mom is convinced he choked even though there was vomit involved. So she bought pouches for us to feed him while we're there instead of giving him mashed/not super thin pureed food. My mom can be a bit of a worrywart.

That's like my 2 year old nephew that still has ALL of his food cut up into teeny bite sized pieces because he gagged a little one time on a chip. (Don't even get me started on the whole giving chips to a baby thing.) 🙄 ETA the choking incident happened when he was like 8 months old. I have no qualms about giving chips to a toddler lol
How do you guys Intro the peanuts? Do you just give them a little peanut butter or mix it with the food
I just gave her a little peanut butter on my finger to suck on, then again a little on the back of her spoon to suck on. Some people are mixing it in with bananas.
Bright side is despite Drs warnings that solids might not help DSs weight he has gained more since starting solids. He's maintaining his bfing but adding in some solids. I realize it could be a coincidence but I'm going to stay optimistic that he just needed some extra.
Questiob for STMs (or anyone really). Currently we are doing solids once a day. When do you/should you move to twice a day? I know food isn't a main focus for quite a few months yet but I'm not sure when you move up.

Whenever you want to. We moved to solids 3 times a day rather quickly because she like it. It also helps out at daycare. If we miss a solid on the weekend it's not a big deal. If I make something she doesn't like and won't eat, it's not a big deal either.
If I want to grind oatmeal to prepare for baby, can I use old fashioned oats? I know instant and quick oats are not recommended.
That's what I did with A. Although to be honest, this time around I haven't been grinding them. He does fine with the texture of slightly thinned down quick oats.
