I apologize if this has been discussed before. AF came back this morning. I'm still breastfeeding and I give a bottle of formula at night. I can tell my supply has dropped because he seems to be constantly nursing. Should I supplement with more formula? I'm in the camp- feed the baby, so I have supplemented at a few different points when my supply has dropped.
Another question, I know you don't ovulate every cycle anyways, but should I expect a regular period and ovulation now? Or could it be a few months again without a period? I know no one has a crystal ball here..
Ha! That's awesome! He's basically the size of a 10-11 month old. And he has so skewed my perception of babies of a normal size - everyone seems so tiny! The down side is people expect him to be so much further developmentally because he's so big.
My H had this problem when he was a baby. His mother told him that people actually thought he was mentally handicapped and made comments to her when he was a baby because he looked so much older just because of his size.

awkwardturtle With DS, once AF returned at 6m it was consistent every month (I think my cycles were a little longer at first but nothing out of the ordinary). But I never supplemented, just noticed that he would pick up a MOTN feed again when it was coming, and drop it once it was almost over.

My period came back 3 fn months after K was born because my body is an asshole. I went from having oversupply and OALD to struggling with supply issues since. I held off on supplementing until 6 months because I was determined to get my supply back up. That was the wrong course of action. I decimated my freezer stash and K practically stopped growing. At her 6 month appointment she was less then 5th% when she was in the 90th% at birth. What has worked for us is that I give her 1-2 ounces of formula before bed and then nurse her to sleep. I'll then have a 2oz bottle prepped and ready to go for MOTN and give her that before nursing her back to sleep. This prevents her from waking every 1-2 hours because she's hungry because of lack of supply.
Regarding your ute, my anecdote is that my period became regular right away. The only change I have seen is that it presents completely different then it did before pregnancy. I used to have 2 light days, 2 heavy days and 2 more light days. Now it's 2-3 super light days, 2 really really heavy days, 2 super light days. I now have to get the super plus tampons and wear pads as backup. I am not happy with this change.

Also, your son is freaking adorable.
thank you for all of this SheilaTheTank I'm sorry about your supply going down so much after AF. I'm glad you have a good system and solution now. I am going to try to offer a couple ounces of formula today as well and see if it helps. I was up all night nursing last night.

My period came back at 6 months with both kids. My supply completely tanks a few days before until about cd 2. I've been lucky enough to not have to supplement, but I pretty much have a baby attached to my boob for 5 days and nights straight. If you supplement with formula, you should pump to let your body know the baby still needs milk. Even if you don't get a ton, the stimulation will tell help your body bring your supply back up when the hormones settle down. Mine came back as a regular monthly thing with ds. I've only had 1 so far with dd, but I'm expecting it to just be regular. I got really lucky in that I used to have super heavy days with debilitating cramps for like 4 days and then 3 light days. Now I've got no cramps and 1 heavy-ish day, 2 medium days, and 1 super light day. But now I get sore boobs (could have something to do with the barnacle attached to them) and the horrible supply drop.

This is good to know, thank you. It explains why my supply has been so low the past few days, I thought I just had too much wine a couple nights ago and that was affecting it. I (had) thought my period wouldn't come back until I stopped EBF, but I guess with introducing solids and the being 6 months postpartum that's not actually the case. I have always fed pretty much on demand.

This really varies from person to person. According to what I have read the average PP for BF mamas is 8 months. But I know that they tell you not to use LA as reliable BC after 6 months. It's also been linked with sleep at night. If your LO STTN you are more likely to do get AF back.
A lot of ppl here have said they are regular right away but that definitely doesn't happen to everyone. I haven't had mine yet so idk from personal experience but my irl best friend got hers back around 10 months and then not again until LO was 1 year and it wasn't regular and she weaned at like 16 months.

I am super pissed I got my period so early when I was EBF. That was supposed to be the trade off to being constantly exhausted and unable to drop the last 10 pounds. I'm majorly butt hurt about it.
Anecdotal but with DS1, I got my first PP AF around 10 months, then nothing for a few more months. I wasn't regular until I'd fully weaned, and he's been taking lots of solids for months at that point. Hoping to get that lucky this time around!!
Anyone one else's LOs not have teeth yet? Just me?
No teeth here. He's been drooling and chewing on everything for months too. DH didn't get teeth until 10 months. I'm kind of hoping J gets them on the later side too.

No teeth here yet but 2 of them look close on the bottom. His gums are bumpy and our pedi confirmed that they're coming. It's hard to say that chewing on everything is a sign of teething because it's a normal development thing for them to do that at this age.

Ds has a cough and high fever. I have a sinus infection and have taken off work tomorrow. Sick mom + sick toddler + teething baby. Should be interesting.

I got my first AF just before J turned 5 months. I had my second last week making it a forty-something day cycle. Before my cycles were around 30 days so I'm not sure if they will normalize now or if they'll continue to be somewhat unpredictable.

Lefty is struggling. I was finally all healed. Until last night. I had another milk bleb right in the center of my nipple (had bc I just popped it, unleashing a bizarre amount of milk) and now I am pretty sure I a clog too.
