And I found this in an article: Because of the rarity, identical triplets often make headlines, for example when a monozygotic triplet pregnancy resulted after a single embryo was implanted in an in-vitro procedure.
Allison Penn gave birth to Logan, Eli, and Collin in March 2008. Her doctors identified the situation as the only known case of a single embryo transfer resulting in triplets.
I'm not sure if any of the other more recent triplets were from FET's or non-ART pregnancies. But still.. when I saw that identical triplets often make headlines, I said our very own fightersince83 could be in the headlines! Are you on the West coast or am I thinking of somebody else? If you are, you totally need to move closer to me on the East coast so I can play with them!

fightersince83, I already LT'd so you already knew I was lurking, but... Wow! Congratulations x 3, and I hope the coming weeks will help allay some anxieties, get a clearer look at where things are going as far as planning ahead for stuff, etc. (That probably sounds like word salad. I hope it's mostly English.)

at my u/s I went in feeling like we might not find a hb. I've felt pretty normal and in past pregnancies have always felt super sick, even when things weren't going great. The good news is that we saw a hb! The shocking news is that despite transferring only 1 embryo, we currently have IDENTICAL TRIPLETS growing in one placenta. They all had a hb. My RE kept asking if we only transferred one. I kept confirming and that was a sign that something was up. I thought to myself omg he's gonna say it's twins. I don't even know how to wrap my head around triplets. Identical triplets. I honestly didn't even know triplets could all be identical. I always thought it was a pair of identical twins plus one other egg that fertilized at the same time. Or possibly even 3 different eggs though that seems less common. It's super early and it's not possible to say if all will continue growing and how that might impact the other(s) if that happens. We are in shock. We're happy that we're pregnant and we're trying to wrap our heads around what the hell this might look like if all goes forward. My RE said this would be extremely high risk. He also said the odds of twins in this scenario are about 2% and he's never heard of spontaneous identical triplets before. Right now they all have a hb. They all looked about the same size and my ute measured on track. He didn't measure each baby (I don't think) the 3rd one was hard to see but there are 3 distinct yolk sacs with 3 hbs. Holy shit, fuck, balls. Did I mention I live about 400 miles away from family? Wow. We're happy though and right now I'm pregnant. I go back next Friday so we'll see how things are going then. Wow. & fuck (in a good way but fuck). [\spoiler]
