Does anyone use cloth diapers? I am thinking of making the switch for Evie. I am not sure where to start but would love some advice. We use disposables and with 2u2, there are so many diapers! Not to mention the expense of them. Do any of the 2u2 moms here use them?

Cloth is the best! We used it with C (was 2 in April) from birth until he potty trained in July, and have been using it with A since birth. The NJCD board has a great post about how to get started and some YouTube videos to watch. Usually they recommend 24 changes per child. You might be able to get away with less with an older kid. A cheap way to try it out is to pick up some flour sack towels from the kitchen section of Walmart or target. They are $1 a piece or less. A few covers. There's lots to choose from. You could easily just pad fold a fst in a cover. That's what I do. No need for super fancy folds. There's also pockets and all in ones. We use a lot of all in 2's, (grovia brand) where the insert snaps into the cover. ETA: the NJCD board also has a weekly swap if you want to try to get some used for cheaper.

I use cloth and love it! It is really hard with 2u2 - I am doing laundry every other day - but it is good motivation to get my older one potty trained :-) I use AIOs so there is no folding or stuffing, my friend with 2u2 was just expressing how she was ready to throw in the towel because diaper laundry was just so time consuming. Happy to try to help with any questions you might have but I am not an expert by any means!

Thank you! Do you think that I would be okay with CD only with the baby? I figure while she is still little but Isaac will be potty training soon. I also have hears about the flour sack towels too. Can you use these with pocket diapers? What is best to start with in your opinion?

Thank you! This is why I am thinking maybe just CD with Evie. She has been having issues with rashes with disposables. I feel like it would be hard with Isaac but we are starting potty training soon. I am super nervous but want to atleast try it.

You could absolutely just CD the baby! I actually have C still in diapers for nap and nights and use disposables. Naps happen at my mom's a lot and I was forgetting diapers for him. You can use fst with pockets. You would just fold it like a normal towel (pad fold) and stuff the pocket with it. I have some pockets I don't use a ton that are stuffed with flats. I think your best bet is to get a variety and see what you like best. Maybe 2-3 pockets, 2 covers and a few inserts, an all in one or 2, and see what fits best before you buy a ton of something only to decide you hate it. Also, every brand fits different so getting a variety will let you see what fits best.

halfahippy- This is so helpful! Thank you! I ordered 2 pockets from Alva. I am looking at some others now. I am a little nervous about MIL learning how to use them too. She watches both children mon-wed from 7-1.

If she refuses or can't figure it out, you could do disposables for her and cloth the rest of the time. It doesn't have to be all or nothing and it would still save you a ton of money.

songbirdsinging55, I got most of my stash used off ebay. You can find some really great deals that come out to less than $5 per gently used diaper.
For our ILs we do trial by fire. Show them what it is and then let them figure it out. This weekend I sent K with a prefold and cover and then gave a change into an AIO. MIL didn't know what to do so she put the AIO on and then then cover over it. MH was dying when he figured out what she did. At least K was doubly protected.
For daycare we use AIOs and pockets so they treat them just like the would disposables. Take off baby and put into the wetbag. Done. If they can't figure that out then it's time to get a new daycare!
I'm a little late to the thread, but we used cloth diapers with DS1 from about eight weeks until he potty trained last year at just over three years old, and have been using cloth with DS2 since birth.
With DS1, we used flats and covers. Favorite brand of covers is Thirsties Duo Wraps - they come in two sizes. For DS2, we have a mix. My mom and MIL actually prefer tri-folded prefolds inside a Thirsties cover. I have a few pockets and AIOs (Thirsties, BumGenius), as well as a GroVia O.N.E. that I'm liking more and more. I use BG Freetimes or a bamboo flat with hemp doubler for overnight.
My MIL was adamantly opposed to cloth when DS1 was born. If she can be converted, ANYONE can. Good luck, and definitely check out the NJCD board. Great ladies!

My mum is fine with cloth diapers but I still leave her disposables because she can't do the snaps up right. The diapers are always like falling off the bum because she can't do then tight enough.
