Soo.... With both my kids we were frantically trying to finalize names when it was discharge time. I hope it won't be that way this time, but if past history is any indication.....
I'm totally team no one knows the name until baby is born. DH doesn't care and would tell anyone who asked. I think I may subconsciously block naming because of this 😂
I've had a girl name for as long as I can remember. My name is my moms first and middle name but in reverse, so I've always said a girl would be my name in reverse (so my mom's name). Luckily H is on board with this because I won't budge.
As far as boy names I'm at a loss. I have a list and I like traditional, classic English and (easily read/pronounced) Irish names. I really, really love James but I'm concerned that he'll get called Jim or Jimmy. So far my list has James, Alexander, Callum, Connor, and Dylan.

We had three names picked out for years, since before we were married. Anastasia (angel) Caden (rainbow 1) and Willow. If this ones a boy not sure! I like Jude.
BFP# 1 7/7/12 Beautiful DD born still at 36 weeks 5 days on 3/2/13 BFP #2 8/7/14 Rainbow DS born 4/2/15 Started adoption process July 2016 BF#3 8/29/16 DD2 born 4/21/17
That is a really pretty name. I have a name that is mispronounced more often than not (first and last) so I am more sensitive to it. How do you feel about Neve?
I'm open to it. But I really love the original spelling. Sigh.

We have our list from last time, i really love Evelyn (Evie) for a girl. And DH thinks his name is so great we need a Joe Jr. I hate it but it mean so much to him id let it fly if we can ALWAYS call him JJ. FYI Charlotte is our first and we were going to go Evelyn for her but she just didn't look like and Evie... So we went with one of our other choices, id like to have another choice for boy name just in case he doesnt look like a JJ.

We get Jim/Jimmy from a few people but we just correct them. Daycare and family call him James or Jay/Jaime because they know we don't use Jim/Jimmy to refer to him
Guys I totally need help with this. DD is Celia Kate. Kate is for DH's grandma who passed away. Celia has been my favorite girl name pretty much forever so I was thrilled to be able to use it. If DD would have been a boy she would've been Bennett. But now I'm not sure if I still like it. Also in my mind Celia is like the prettiest name ever lol so I need something I love just as much. I do like Ava for a girl but I'm worried about it being too popular. I'm thinking either Faye or carmella for middle names (both of my grandmas)
Oh also I did share DD's name and will share again once this one has a name. If someone doesn't like the name we pick it really doesn't matter to me.
MIL didn't like Celia's name before she was born (she says she loves it now) and made the comment that she would just call her Leah. I shut that shit down real quick.

I love Celia, it's one of those names you don't hear often but go "oh that's so pretty!" when you do!
And +1 to sharing the name. IDGAF who likes it or not, it's not like I'm picking some wild off the wall name like Blueberry or something!
My dad and sister have already had negative things to say about some of the names I like. I just laughed at them and said their opinion was irrelevant.

Yeah, we keep our name list a secret because of this
madams - I love the name Kyle. I would name my kid Kyle if it wasn't for DH saying no because he has a cousin with the same name. Seriously, a cousin who he NEVER sees. Ugh.
We haven't discussed names yet and I don't even want to think too much about a name until we know the sex. DH and I have completely different tastes in name and it took weeks and weeks to come up with our kids' names. We never had a list of names that we both liked. It pretty much came down to one FN and one MN that we both agreed on for each child. So yeah, not looking forward to coming up with a name for #3.
lupincat - my brother is James. He's always been a James, nothing else. I can clearly remember being about 4 (so he was 6) and my grandpa can him Jim. James turned around and said "my name is James" in a very stern voice. That's the only time I heard him called anything but James.
I think James is a name that's less likely to automatically go to a nickname than other names
I have one, and my husband and I will throw out names back and forth. I'm also in the not share camp. We're set on girls' names - we have four or five we've consistently liked. For boys, we're a little more stuck. Husband is a junior, and we won't be doing the third.

I want to high five your brother! My DS is William Joseph (PDQ even though it's not unique lol) and we got a few jokes about "oh haha I'll call him Billy Joe".... Made my blood boil!

H won't really engage on names yet. I'm hoping that will change as things progress.
I have learned he doesn't remember what he says. So I keep a name on the spreadsheet even if he says no to it one day, because he'll like it another day. Have you tried the tools at behindthename.com or babynamewizard.com? I've found those useful.

We played with this app a while ago - BabyName - you both install it on your phone and go through a list of names and check the ones you like and don't, and it gives you the matches. It's not the most comprehensive, and will give you nine different spellings of Aiden, but it was fun to play with it. I'll check those sites out!
river Sometimes I lurk in the Baby Names section of TCF. There's definitely a certain vibe over there regarding naming etiquette but there's always good suggestions too.

I've kept a running list since DS was born, but I'm trying not to think about it TOO much until we know the sex. For boys we like Elijah and Alexander (nn Xander), and for girls Quinn and Sienna. So far lol.
Boy name has been chosen by DH for a while: Jaryd Scott. He likes the unusual spelling of Jaryd and Scott is both his dad's name/DH's middle name.
I got to choose DD's name (Hayley Claire, mn after my dad) so we're debating this hard right now. Front runner right now is Alexandra (nn Lexi) Rose. Other options: Sophia, Aria, Melanie, Juliet. Middle name isn't set in stone.
I'm hoping for a girl but naming this kid will be a lot easier if it's a boy! 😉

I love Celia and I also love Ava! That would be high up on my list if there wasn't already one in the family. It is popular but I don't mind that. DD's name is pretty popular too.
We don't seriously start thinking about names until we know the gender. It's too hard to try to choose two names, haha. But I've been thinking about it a little, and for boys I like Owen or Graham, and for girls Lily or Victoria. No idea about middle names though!

+1 to having a spreadsheet full of names.
If it's a boy it's going to be Carter. DH and I have loved this name forever. We are leaning towards Joshua for the middle name.
Girl names: ugh we can't agree on. I love love love Amelia. DH hates it along with the other 20 names on my list. He loves Ava. I think Ava is nice but I'm not sold on it. We agreed on it for a middle name if anything.
I recently came across the name Sarai (which I think is really pretty). I ran it by DH and he surprisingly loves it. So as of right now Sarai is our top name for a girl. IDK if Sarai Ava goes well together, so we shall see.

river DH is a jr. as well. We had a huge blow out argument over me not wanting LO to be a third. He was really pissed at me. I think he is slowly getting over the idea thankfully, even though once in a while he will bring it up.

I was actually talking to workmate about this this morning. He's a junior and his son is a third. He said his wife only conceded on naming him a third if they called him by his middle name. So, his son goes by his middle name and actually doesn't even use his first name. On all legal documents he puts First Initial. Middle name, Last name.

Most thirds I know go by Tre/Trey/Tripp/Trace
I've never heard of that one before. I know a family of James's, I think the newest one is a IV or V. They just rotate whether they go by Jim/Jimmy or Jaime/Jay which I thought was interesting.
