Thursday I was 2cm and 50% effaced at my doctor's appointment (40+1). NST looked fine and they had scheduled me for an induction Monday that I was really unhappy about. For some reason everyone was convinced I would go into labor that night, especially my parents. Three people texted me they heard the song 'Ophelia' on the radio and were convinced it was a sign. My Mom and I went through this ridiculous list online of 57 natural ways to induce labor. We chose to try Chinese food and rich chocolate cake that my wonderful DH made me as the ones to try. We all joked it was baby gir's birthday cake.
Went to bed at 10pm and had a few painful contractions, and by 11 I was woken up by them. They were 5-8 minutes apart but only about 30 seconds long. I went between trying to sleep and roaming around the house, and by 2am I decided to take a shower and wake up DH. We left for the hospital at 3:30am and at that point they were 3 minutes apart, 40 seconds long but still manageable. I had to stop to breath but they didn't excatly hurt.
Got checked at the hospital at 5am and was 4-5cm so we were admitted. DH napped on the couch and I tried to rest and read my book between contractions. By 7am I was 6cm and the doctor was really impressed by my progress. I was still managing contractions well and they broke my water. My Mom had taken DD to daycare and got to the hospital now. Checked at 8am and I was 6-7cm, baby had descended a lot. I was bummed I wasn't further because contractions were becoming very intense with DH having to rub my back really hard each one (I was having back labor again). At this point we were discussing medicine and I decided to try pain medicine in the IV first. They gave me something that made me feel just a little tipsy, between contractions I would say things like the blood pressure tightening felt like a warm hug. It was just enough to take the edge off.
Then I hit transition (I think around 9:15am). These contractions were coming 2 minutes apart, and were so intense I was holding on to the side of the bed sobbing that I couldn't do it anymore. I was nauseous and begging for more medicine but it was too late. I kept telling my Mom I wouldn't have any energy left to push.
A little before 10 I was screaming in pain and saying it felt like I had to poop. I kept yelling at the nurse she was coming and I wanted to push. They ran to get the doctor and I pushed through 4-5 contractions and she was here! It was not pleasant but I think feeling everything motivated me to get it done faster (I pushed for 3 hours with DD). She got a little stuck on the way out and the doctor was pulling quite a bit, but Oph.elia Bea came out big and healthy at 10:15am. We did an hour of skin to skin and then she was weighed at 8lbs, 9oz and 20 inches long.
Looking back I don't know if I'd do it without an epidural again, but my recovery has been so much better. I felt fine to be walking around an hour after birth and didn't have the groggy side effects and numb legs like last time. It all went so much faster letting my body do it's own thing. She is a great sleeper this first night but a bit of a lazy nurser. DD was the opposite so we'll see if that changes.
Sorry so long, just wanted to get it all down so I remembered everything.
