DS is up to 11lbs 11oz, and 23 inches long! He screamed for his vaccines but quieted down as soon as I picked him up. He's been extra fussy for the past few hours so I tried to give him some infant Tylenol, but the freaking syringe it came with is broken, and wasn't pulling in more than maybe .5mL at a time, so I ended up getting about 1.5mL into the cap of a bottle, and had DS drink it from the cup. He did great drinking it, I just wish I was able to get him a full 2.5mL dose, but he was screaming the whole time I was trying to get enough medicine out, so I gave up. We'll try again in a few hours, when DH is home to help.
We were told to give 1.25mL at a time so I'm sure he's good if you can't manage more!
DD had her 2 month vaccines yesterday. She slept all day and went to bed easily so I thought I might get lucky and have a good night. Nope, she wanted to eat so many times. I'm so tired. On the plus side she did better than she normally does at sleeping between feeds this morning.
Pedi said her restless sleep is probably normal gas and there really isn't anything to be done. She did give me a probiotic to try. I knew that was most likely the answer but it's pretty unsatisfying. Not that I want there to be something wrong with DD but its frustrating to not be able to do anything to help her.
Lots of commiseration. If it helps any my most miserable baby is an extremely happy and exuberant toddler with a very high pain tolerance. No sign of how miserable she was for 5 mo. as an infant.
ETA: have you tried gas drops before every feeding? It's got a 33% success rate over here. Not great but enough to be worth a shot perhaps.
.
Gas drops didn't seems to help much unfortunately. Hopefully she'll outgrow it in the next month or two.
Guys, I am about to pull my hair out. Seriously at my wit's end.
It's all the same thing, same issue as always. Baby only gains weight when I do this triple thing - nurse, bottle feed, pump. When I experiment with other options, he doesn't grow. I was so excited that he was eating 100% breast milk, but this is just so hard and it's not really getting easier. It's already hard to have an infant, but this persistent feeding issue is making me so upset.
Went for a weight check and ped was not happy with growth. Trying one more week with bottle feeding after nursing before addressing next steps with ped.
I typically wake P every 3 hours during the day to eat even though most of the time she wakes herself around then. Is anyone doing this?
Someone told me it would help with sleeping but she's still up a few times in the night. She's on a hypoallergenic formula.
My DS just had an internal clock for every 3 hours. But with DD I woke (or attempted to wake) every 3 hours. I know some people are "don't wake a sleeping baby", but I used to. I wanted to make sure she got enough ounces during the day especially as she dropped feedings at night.
hannahbear hugs. The never ending feeding cycle is tough. Please now you've tried everything if you need to introduce formula. And any bit of breast milk is good.
Hey there everyone! I'm just barely functioning due to moving in a week. I am laughably unprepared. It's stressing me out so much that I can't sleep. And that is a cruel joke when the baby actually decided to have a decent night and I sit there making lists in my head.
I hope everyone else is sleeping. If not, I hope you have good coffee:)

hannahbear I'm sorry the BFing has been so difficult. That sounds like a hard process you've got right now. Have they talked about EPing at all? Did his weight stay the same this week? How much are they wanting him to gain?

hollyberry good to know! Do you mind sharing or pm'ing your schedule & average oz per feed?
Baby boy eats 200 ml every 4 hours Baby girl eats 160ml every 4 hours
The schedule i want is 8am, 12, 4pm, 8 pm and then anywhere from 2-4am for a night feed.
This of course depends on when they wake in the morning. If they dont nap well then i will let them sleep a bit longer, but i hate a bedtime bottle too late so i end up waking them before the night bottle becomes 9 pm or later.
This week i have been always giving them a 8 pm bottle ( even if it has not been 4 hours) to try and encourage a regular routine. It is in the trial mode still so i don't know if it will work yet.

Thanks everyone. I feel like I'm reaching my limits. I finally reached out to a new therapist, and I'm hoping that will help. I feel like I've spent so much time, effort, and money to make this work, but I'm still failing.
remylove1011 he gained a tiny bit (1 ounce) and they want him to gain 1/2 to 1 ounce per day. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing but adding in volume in the bottles. And then re-evaluate with the ped next week. EPing sounds so hard... I'm scared of it.
We had LOs urology follow up today. The steroid cream helped a bit and she was able to pull apart some of the adhesions but not all. We go back in 2 weeks and they'll probably cut him. The pulling today made him bleed and there's some raw skin there. He's so cranky. And B is having belly problems. DH and a friend are spackeling (sp?) so I'm on my own with these two. LO fell asleep so I grabbed some food, instant crying i just snuck some Tylenol into a few ounces of milk and got him to drink it. Hopefully he calms down a bit

Great, thanks! Not sure where you located, but our standard medical insurance approved the HA formula as a prescription.
Hi, I've been a bit MIA. H has been home with sick baby so as soon as I get home from work I've been on baby duty to give him a break. *Knocks on wood* I think DD is finally getting over her virus.

hannahbear, EPing isn't too bad. You get in to a routine and it becomes second nature (at least that's what I tell myself). I just remind myself often why I am doing this and it makes it easier. Just make sure you have enough pump parts so that you're not washing parts constantly.

Whatever you choose to do, you've got this!
I mean, I figure it can't be that bad, right? I already pump 4 times a day after nursing. I'm sure I would have to do more.
How many pumps do you get in every day? When do you pump? I already struggle with nursing/bottle feeding and then figuring out what to do with the baby while I pump. Sometimes he's cool sitting in his bouncer chair, sometimes not so much.

I pump about 6 times a day, so you wouldn't be adding in but two more sessions. I'll pump while the baby naps, plays on his mat, or while H has him. I'll try to pump right after I feed him, so every 3-4 hours and typically just once overnight. There are some really good EP resources out there. Kellymom is a good one to start with.

I will gladly answer any more questions you have!
What do you do if you have to be out? Does it work to just add in a pump at some other time of day? Or does it need to closely mimic when baby eats?

I can usually go about 6 hours between pumps before I start to hurt. But I bought a car adapter for my PISA in case I'll be away longer and the medela ice pack for bottles. I haven't had that problem yet, luckily. I'm staying home with baby. I also have 3 sets of flanges, so I wash parts and bottles 2-3 times a day.
When I was establishing my supply, I pumped right after baby ate to mimic feeding him. Now that DS is 16 weeks, my supply is pretty steady. I have power pumped if I miss a session or added one in when I can (at least an hour after your last pump though), or used Milkflow drink mix to up my supply.
H is really supportive of me pumping because he really wanted DS to be on breast milk as long as possible, especially when he was born early. So he helps me in any way he can. If it wasn't for that, I probably would have quit a long time ago.
I've had moments where I wanted to quit, so I tell myself to just finish out the day/week/month or just make it to 1 month, or 2 months etc. Next thing I know, DS will be 4 months next week. It's hard and frustrating at times, but you can do it.
Eta: Don't stress out about pumping. In the beginning, I would pump for 20-30 min at a time around the clock. I hated it. DS's pedi said to scale it back to 15-20 min at a time and skip a session at night for sleep. I would make up that session during the day. Drink lots of water and get a good book to read. If you look forward to reading the book (or something similar), it makes pumping easier. And get the hands free pumping bra. Love. It.

watermelonseed, we are in Getmany and the first formula that you get in the hospital or that you typically buy is HA. Around 3months we are going to change to the normal one and see how it goes. Definitely no prescription needed here for it. Thats interesting. We decided to use it since they were preemies. But its double the price. Hopefully they will take the normal fine.

hannahbear you are not failing. You are doing everything possible for LO.
dc2london rough day when feeling like a milk maid all day. I think we're over the worse of DS growth spurt. This afternoon he was able to go 3 hour stretches which helped fill him up.
quirks hopefully last of virus moves on out before you or DH catch it.
I'm not sure if he was comfort feeding or is growth spurting but my position title "the feeder" (per B!) was totally accurate today. Praying he sleeps okay tonight.
