Ugh. Big windstorm here last night. Woke up at 4:30 to my baby monitor going nuts because the parent unit couldn't reach the child unit because the power went out and the child unit doesn't have a battery. Plus all our smoke alarms make this sad little beep when they're running on battery.
Finally got all the beeps quieted just to have K wake up. Whomp whomp. So now we're sitting here in the dark with no heat. I changed her diaper by cell phone light. Utility company is estimating power will be back at 6am (about a half hour). If I can get her to fall back to sleep after she eats, maybe she and I can just bundle up under a blanket in my bed and watch Netflix until this all blows over.
Oh, and I had my first judgy other mom moment yesterday. I took K grocery shopping with me, and just as we're finishing checking out she starts to get fussy because she's hungry. Since she hadn't finished eating earlier I happened to have a bottle with the last little bit of formula from that feeding handy, so I popped it into her mouth while I was finishing paying. The bagger looks over and as she's putting a can of formula into one of my bags asks me in this seriously judgy tone about whether I'm breastfeeding or not. I just stared at her for a full minute until she got kind of uncomfortable and then told her that I was, but had to supplement with formula because my supply wasn't keeping up with her demand and shed lost a lot of weight, not that it was any of her business how I made sure my child had enough to eat. She finished bagging my stuff in record time after that.
It was so annoying. But on the positive side, one of the assistant managers heard K start to fuss when I first got in line and came over to help me unload the cart so I could pay attention to her. It was really nice if her.

Other than dr appts and a couple stops at Target, I haven't really tried to go anywhere with R yet. Today I'm meeting my mom and bff (who is due with her second in 10 days!) for lunch. Bringing pumped BM just in case he gets fussy, but I'm hoping it goes well. At least it's with people who can help if I need it!
For real! I mean, I've had a few people that know us ask when they see me pull out a bottle, but it's usually more of a curiosity thing. This was the first time someone had been judgy about it.
pismoduo I had a cashier comment to me after asking R's age how "they take them out so young now. I remember when I had a baby I didn't leave the house for two months."
Well good for fucking you lady. Seriously though I've learned to blow people off. I made the comment about how my older child wouldn't appreciate being cooped up for two months.
+1 to WTF is wrong with strangers who think it's ok to ask about things like BFing. MYOB.
We just had our first major diaper blow-out, so laundry is definitely on the agenda today. We have another box of NB diapers, but if there are more leaks/blow-outs, I'll have to try the size 1s.
Morning! Last night's crib experiments when well. R did several stretches in the crib. None were longer than two hours but I was thrilled.
I'm also excited I don't have to cook dinner the next two nights My MIL is having us over for dinner tonight and tomorrow night we're going to my parent's. Yeeesss.
Sorry for all the judgy people. I'm lucky and nobody's ever said anything to my face. Good thing since I'm awful at confrontation. I probably wouldn't have a good comeback like pismoduo, I'd just cry.
I got me and both girls dressed, fed and out of the house by 8:10am to take DD1 to daycare. I consider that a win. I now have 3.5 hours to get my house decent before I pick her up and the in-laws get here, but we're currently just snuggling on the couch.
singingsea yes! I've gotten these same comments. We took lo to the zoo with toddler when she was 5 days old. It's open air environment, nice weather and I wore her. I seriously didn't see the issue but apparently several people did!

It is! For once their estimates were pretty spot on, so it came back a little after 7. By that time K and I were comfortably cuddled up in my bed with a blanket and some Netflix on my phone, so we just kept on sleeping for a little bit.
pismoduo hope you've gotten your power back by now! And good for you for telling the cashier it was non of her business!
singingsea I got the same comment from an old lady at the supermarket. I said I stayed in with #1 when we could just order food but I need healthy food for the toddler to eat.
So that cold the baby has is now an ear infection. I'm so heartbroken that my 7 week old has an ear infection already. DS1 didn't get his first until 7 months old. I have a huge fear this guy will end up with tubes like big brother.

Depending on the day I might cry too. It just so happened that I was heavily caffeinated and feeling like SuperMom for getting all those errands done.
And now for a judgy moment of my own... There's a gal on one of the local mom's consignment Facebook groups that has posted looking to buy or borrow a birth tub for her home water birth. It's the "borrow" in this scenario that weirds me out a little.

Last night was horrible and I'm so tired today. I think he had some gastric discomfort, lol. We had a MW appointment this am and he's now 9lbs14oz. So we'll continue with what we're doing, boob and bottle when necessary.
We booked our sun holiday for March break yesterday. I can't wait.

You can rent those.
Renting makes it a little less gross of an idea, assuming a reputable company would sterilize the way a hospital would. Randomly loaning one to a stranger and then having them give it back feels icky.

Ran to TJ Maxx and Target. Ended with a poopy explosion in the car. At least there was no crying from her & she waited to ruin her outfit after the trip. Haha

F that bagger bitch and that cashier too pismoduo and singingsea! I've had my share of nosey and judgey bitches. Momming is hard enough without these asshole's two cents.
Well done fem, I'm impressed y'all were up and dressed that early!

watermelonseed enjoy the extra sleep and good luck with the interview tomorrow! Sucks about the poopsplosion while out and about but good job finding the silver lining:)
Mw was here this morning. Dd is jaundiced but not enough to need treatment yet. She is still missing one pee, hopefully she does that before 3:33pm. She's down to 8lbs 9 oz, so creeping close to her 10%. I have a feeling I'm not producing enough colustrum. I hope my milk comes in this time and soon, otherwise we're going to be ff. Not that it's the end of the world, ds was ff. MW will be back in the am to do another weight and see where we are at that point.
As for judgy people about ff, I used to tell them that I could breastfeed and not use formula but then he'd die since I didn't produce anything but I'd like a happy full kid. People usually shut up real quick.

I'm gonna AW our newborn pics we got back yesterday. We ended up with one or two good family ones, DS1 isn't smiling but he's not crying/whining so I'm calling it a win lol

Our alarm went off at 6 AM this morning, and as DH is getting up Abby starts to wake. I asked DH how many times she woke up last night because I went to bed at 1030 and left her with him (she was awake and due for a feeding soon) and I only woke once at 3am (DD1 kicked me in the nose) and Abby was fast asleep. DH tells me she didn't wake at all! I was impressed, until I asked him what time he brought her up to bed. I figured maybe midnight, but no, he said 2am. Still 2 to 6 is good, but 12 to 6 would have been awesome!

LadyNymeria with DS I didn't take him hardly anywhere his first 2 months, with DD I took her to the store a couple times, but that's about it for the first couple months. With Abby, I was at church with her when she was 10 days old. Now, I took precautions to keep people and their grubby hands off her: hung out in the church office until church started, sat in the back with a cover on the infant carrier, busted out of there as soon as it was over.
