I went in for my scheduled induction Tuesday morning at 4:00 am due to GD and baby boy measuring large. Unfortunately, I had missed some calls that they were going to delay me (30 min drive, they called after I left and my phone was on vibrate). Got there and they let me check in, but let me know they couldn't induce right away. Got on the monitors to check baby and waited until about 6:00 am and they said I could wait until 11:00 for a possible induction or go home and come back Thurs. I was already there and my parents weren't available Thurs to watch DS so I opted to stay.
Karma was on my side and a nurse showed up that wasn't on the schedule for the morning shift. The induction was a go! They started me on Pitocin around 7:00 am, I was already dilated to about 3 cm. At noon, they broke my water. I progressed fairly steadily, bouncing and rocking on the birth ball and then in the tub. Contractions were painful and I groaned through them. I first tried the laughing gas, which helped in the beginning. The IV pain meds did nothing. I finally asked for the epidural around 6-7 cm. The epi made me shake and very sleepy. I felt a lot better but there's one spot that burned like a MFer, like a pinched nerve x100000. I dozed off and on for a while, at my next check I only had a tiny lip of cervix left and they had me try some pushes.
He came down a bit, but wouldn't yet push past the lip. That spot was killing me and they requested that I get another dose of the epi while they put in a balloon thing to get that lip out of the way. No idea how long it was before they came back to check me again, the epi made me doze again. The burning feeling was still there, but not as bad. I pushed for maybe 10 mins, DS came out slowly and DH delivered him the rest of the way once his shoulders were out.
We had immediate skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, and an hour of snuggle time while I was stitched up and the placenta was delivered.
He's a lazy nurser and we've done a tiny bit of supplementing with a syringe because his blood sugars weren't staying up. He's getting better with his latch and nursing and just waiting for my milk to come in.
