Thanks ladies. I'm actually related to Captain Christopher Newport. The captain that sailed the Susan Constant and was in charge of the other two ships that brought over the Jamestown Settlers from England.
I just thought it would be a really cool nod to my family heritage and our Navy/seafaring family.

@wallflwr926 because it's absurdly commonplace. He could be named after a bijillion Christopher's in the world. Like I would never ever consider using it.

But in all seriousness, anyone could be named after anything and no name you choose will magically announce its specialness when it's spoken. The specialness comes from you giving a treasured name to your kid, no matter how common it is.

I was just playing Devil's Advocate. If the name has special meaning to you then use it.
Did you pick a first name though and do you like the way they sound together?

Lol @wallflwr926 no we don't have a first name yet. I've got a solid list of 11 names or so but DH isn't going to discuss further until we know the gender. So Christmas Day
Top 3 probably being Ciaran Cailean And Nathaniel in no particular order

I'm going to be 100% honest and say that Nathaniel Newport reminds me of Horatio Hornblower. Are you familiar with the books?

Popularity can depend on where you live. I'm assuming you're in the US, if you aren't ignore these.
I'm leaving this link. It's the SSA's site and has two zip files. The second one (23mb) is the state specific one. Once you download it, you can pick your state and see the names (with number of births) used since 1910. This would be better if you come from a large state where a bunch of names may not show up on the SSA's top names here.
