I've just been following the girls lead, but they sure seem to sleep a ton. A good problem to have, I know, but it makes me wonder if this is normal. Lol
They're 8 weeks now and I feel like they should have more awake time than they do or maybe I should just enjoy it while it lasts? I think having an older child that never slept makes me so paranoid.
So what does your typical day look like? And do you wake them to eat to keep a schedule? They're already over 10 pounds and have plenty of dirty diapers so definitely eating enough.

I think as long as they're gaining appropriately, you wouldn't need to wake them to eat, barring any unusual situation. D rarely sleeps longer than 3 hours, so I basically just feed him whenever he wakes up. I'm hoping to just sort of fall into a nap/feeding schedule by the time I go back to work, but I'm not too concerned since daycare will get him on their schedule anyway.
No schedule for the newborn (1 month yesterday) here, I just let him sleep whenever he wants. DD was a big sleeper too but I woke her to feed at night even after she was back to birth weight. I don't "wake"him but I feed him when he gets noisy in his sleep. Usually 3.5 hours per stretch. During the day he usually naps for 1-2 hours unless I swaddle him. I try to only swaddle at night but sometimes I need a longer nap from him so I can get the toddler down.

E is 8 weeks old and I'm still following his lead. Some days it seems like he sleeps all day, other days have much more awake time. We are completely following his lead... feed him when he's hungry (wether it's been 40 minutes or 3 hours) and let him sleep when he feels like it throughout the day. He'll fall into a schedule eventually.

This is us too. Everything is by R's lead for now.

E doesn't just pass out on her own (sometimes when nursing) so I do have to decipher when it's time for a nap and then start our nap routine to put her down for a rest. I guess we are somewhere in a prelude to having more of a schedule since I'm building in the steps that lead up to naps but the specific timing of everything changes day to day at this point. We probably won't have time scheduled naps until I'm back to work and she eventually drops to just 3 naps a day. Right now I'm just trying to build in stronger routines for her and help her learn to sleep a little better since my son was super difficult to get to nap when he started daycare and wouldn't nap longer than 20 minutes a couple times a day for the first months which made for some rough nights with an overtired baby.

We also do not have a daytime sleep schedule in any way. I figure at this point focusing on trying to get Night time under control is more important. She almost always wakes herself and feeds every 3-3.5 hours to eat during day. We will have a lady come to our home to watch her for half the day though. Again just letting P figure her days out for now.
+1 to drill following baby's lead. He sleep about 4 hours during the 1st stretch at night and then every 3 hours or so except for the evenings where it's more often and unpredictable. He sleeps a lot in the morning because that's when I'm usually out and about.
I'll add a big +1 to following baby's lead. We're at the almost 6 week mark.
But K is really awake during the day lately. Normal for her is to sleep for 3-4 hour stretches at night starting around 9pm (sometimes she fights it until 11 or so). She's usually "up" for the day between 5 and 7am, though sometimes I can get her to go back to sleep until 9am or so if I bring her into our bed and let her cuddle up with me. Once I get up for the day, though, she's usually "up" for most of the day as well. She sort of cat naps off and on, usually falling asleep for 20-30 minutes after each time she eats, but she only stays asleep for one long nap (2-3 hours) late in the afternoon, usually after her midday poop, somewhere between 1pm and 5pm.
Since she's not normally fussy during her awake times, I haven't worried much about it. 90% of the time she's content to sit in her infant seat or her swing or to lay on an activity mat, as long as there are people around her. She doesn't have to be held the whole time, thought she does want periodic acknowledgement that she's there (talking to her, singing to her, rocking her chair a little, patting her, picking her up every once in a while). I'd say she's awake for easily 2 hours at a time, sometimes more.
