I thought maybe instead of daily chat threads, we chill in one, since we are a little more slow moving these days!
Has anyone elses LO displayed a hand preference yet? We keep seeing E use both but I see her use her left more dominantly. MH are both rightys, but we each have a parent that is lefty!

Popping in to say hi. I officially have a 1yo now. I'm an emotional mess still. As for hand preference, not yet. Dh though is my rightie. Dh is hoping Ds will go lefties like him

I want to put weaning changes on the table- for those still BFing and slowing down, how are things for you? I notice my appetite has gone down drastically (which is good!). I've gone from like 5-6 snacks a day to 2-3. But the bad thing about slowing down/stopping nursing is that my face is going crazy! 😞 it's really depressing the way I'm breaking out. I still BF 2-4x a day. What the hell am I going to look like one I stop altogether??!

yummeecookee I just started breaking out a little too. My appetite has gone down a little as well but not much. I find it I keep it especially clean and use a tea tree treatment every couple days it helps a lot.

I don't wanna think about F turning one. I have 3 weeks and it's still blowing my mind.
He's significantly cut back on feeds and I'm down to 1 pumping session on my days at work, so I'm noticing some changes here too. Mostly that my appetite has cut way back, and ugh, I think I'm about to get my first pp period. So clearly, he's nursing less.
He takes about 8-9 oz at daycare usually. He only has 7 more days at school til he's one, so only 6 more pumps for me! I cannot wait to be done with that thing.
In the meantime, I have to figure out how I wanna do the transition. Kid loves cheese and yogurt and drinks whole milk fine if I offer it, so I'm not worried about that, but he's a boob addict so I don't know how to start weaning him off. I'm not in a hurry, but, I'd like to be done altogether by 18 months, I think, if not sooner.

Also the last 1st holiday for us, I'm not really sure where the last year has gone either.
I think I am going to start really trying this week to cut our bottles down and really get ready to be done with formula. I don't think she is eating enough solids though which is contributing to still wanting the bottle of formula. It seems like she still wants to play quite a bit with it, not really sure what to do because we never had this problem with DD1.

I've been thinking a lot about weaning and really don't know what we're supposed to do. I'm looking forward to cutrying out pumping but plan to still nurse morning and night for awhile. I guess what I'm more curious about it cutting out the bottle. We still mostly nurse/give a bottle before a nap, although she's gone down without one. Do we just stop offering BM or milk for naps or do we try a sippy during that time? Am I even making sense? Need more coffee

allycat, ditto - F is a total boob addict here too. We haven't tried whole milk yet but yogurt and cheese are two of his favorite foods lol.
Personally - I'm so ready to be done. I'm doing 2 pumps a day at work (down from three) but I'm still getting almost the same amount of milk. I wouldn't mind nursing like morning and evening and have him be boob free during the day but not really sure how to accomplish that. He should be starting DC 3 days a week next week so we'll see how that changes things too.

No lies, she loves fork and I think she eats more. Worth a shot?

C has started getting a little more finicky w food so I worry about his solid intake too.

Perhaps I'll try that at lunch today. She hates being spoon fed and tries to do that herself so maybe it will work.

I haven't figured out yet if she's finicky or just not interested. She loves putting food in and pulling it back out and playing. We always end up with a lot of food on the seat and floor.
rachaeleigh , I'm with ya. E just figured out how to ask for it. She does nurse, but I also think she might just be enjoying her power....
I forgot to bring underwear to the gym today. It's awkward.....
How did you teach her how to ask? Emma likes to just grab my shirt and grab my boobs. Or she lifts my shirt and looks in. It's very fun.
Demand might be a better word than ask. She just does what she does for everything she demands. She points at things and says "that". For some reason my boob (we've only been feeding on one side for months) is the only thing she calls "this." She points and my feeding boob and says say "this?" Usually we nurse. But, sometimes she does it several times in quick succession so then I try and redirect her attention.

oh is that why my face is a pimply mess!?! It started last month and I attributed it to AF but I broke out again recently and I'm not due for AF for weeks. Now that I think about it, breakouts coincide with dropping pumping sessions.

I was worried and as soon as we cut out their mid morning bottle, lunch was eaten with gusto. They regulate their caloric intake pretty well around here. Also, both babies are a little high on the weight charts so we figure as we drop formula, if their weight drops a bit while they figure it out, they'll be ok.

re: nursing. We are down to just the wake up and bednight nursing sessions when I'm working. Days with her we just kind of wing it and she lets me know. She has started dropping her 3rd bottle. At first I was pissed because I thought my inlaws were forgetting, but then the nanny did too and DH told me she refused one. I'm going to start cutting back on a pumping session at work and stop my morning pumping. My dr told us to keep with BM even after a year if I could, so I'll keep with my plan of extended nursing, but probably wean off pumping within the month and just ride my freezer supply out. I haven't noticed my skin breaking out, but my appetite has reduced some.

ldubhawksfan, did your doctor actually say that you should continue to BF or that it would be ok *if* you did? I am curious as to why s/he said you should continue. I mean, I know all the health benefits of BF obvi...

He said I should continue with BM when I inquired about transitioning to WCM. He said we could give her WCM in her sippy with meals if we wanted. He's pretty old school, so I'm not sure how up to date this recommendation is. 😕

On the weaning topic, I gained like 15 pounds overnight when I stopped nursing my daughter. So can I just nurse my son forever? I mean I breastfeed for him but it is a bonus that I eat all day long and I'm thinner than I've ever been.
I wouldn't get caught up on hand preference yet. My almost 3 yo still uses both hands to do things. Some days she prefers her right and some days she prefers her left.
