I think our issue is that she is always falling off my boob when I try side line nursing. I didn't think a pillow was safe for some reason? I'll try it though.
I lay on my side and prop his head up on my outstretched arm. My arm is angled down and I keep him from scooting away with it. I use my other hand to position my breast sometimes. When he is done I will either try to burp or just scoot him up until my arm is at a 90 degree angle and his head is resting on it and we go back to sleep.
I think I have my first clogged duct this time around. I had them with dd and could always get them out in the shower. This one is under my breast though and I couldn't seem to get the right angle or put enough pressure on it. I thought maybe baby could get it out since he's such a super sucker, but nope, feels like it's still there.

have you tried pumping to get it unclogged? Hope it clears up soon for you!
I'm feeling like me and H aren't on the same team regarding bfing after last night. I mentioned Sam's 4 month appointment next week and how his doctor might suggest giving him solids but that I've done my research and want to wait until six months. He just kept saying "I'd rather listen to the doctor", so I sent him a link to Kellymom where they discuss waiting until 6 months and the benefits of it. It mentioned that babies introduced to solids before six months are more likely to wean off bfing early which I said I didn't want happening, and again H made a comment almost as if suggesting that it wouldn't be a bad thing if Sam weaned early. I've said from day one that my goal is to make it at least a year, it's frustrating to be getting these comments from him.

I'm sorry mcktymck. Does your husband have a reason he wants Sam to wean early? Does he realize that if he weans much before 12 months, you'll probably have to use formula? I wonder if he'd feel like he and Sam will be able to bond more once he's weaned. My H is very supportive of breastfeeding, but we just got into an argument bc he feels like he barely parents E and it's frustrating that he can do so little due to breastfeeding.
But stay strong in what you want. It's your body and nursing is so good for both you and Sam. As long as you're both (you and Sam) still happy, keep it up.

My H was the same way with our first. He was clueless about BFing and was shocked and annoyed (and maybe disappointed?) when I told him we weren't just going to randomly give formula here and there for convenience. He was also super excited to give food ASAP. We waited til 6 mo and honestly the novelty wore off for him really quickly. I think it is harder that when BFing, the dads have fewer ways to participate in taking care of the baby. But honestly, in the grand scheme of things, waiting 2 more months is nothing. Each passing month it also gets much easier to play with the baby and bond in other ways because they become so much more interactive and fun. Once you get to 6-12 months, it no longer feels like BFing is their whole life. Can you get your H to talk to you more about why BFing is bugging him? Maybe that would help?
Also fwiw, 6 months is the official recommendation of the AAP as well. If your H is anything like mine, he doesn't care what BFing websites say, but an AAP recommendation would carry some weight.
rungirlrun and katelou, I don't think he's really against it, I'm just not sure he really understands the benefits of it (what man really does). When it comes to babies, especially in regards to them eating/drinking anything other than breast milk, he's had to ask me questions. Plus, I think when he hears me say "even if the doctor tells us we can give him food at 4 months we're waiting until 6", he just thinks I'm getting this information off some random site and that we should listen to her because she's the doctor. Even after I told him that she could tell us one thing, and we could literally walk into the office right next door and the pediatrician in there might tell us something completely different.
I told him that he needs to do his own research and that it's okay to hear what the doctor has to say but that it doesn't make it the correct thing to do just because "they're the doctor, we should listen to them". I mean really, there are doctors out there telling parents to turn their kids forward facing in their seats at a year old, when now the recommendation is at least two years old. I'm definitely sticking to my guns when it comes to this though, regardless of what we're told at the appointment.
B eats every two hours, around the damn clock. Sometimes more frequently. He gets one bottle every week or so and I always pump to replace that feeding.
You guys- I got my period. I'm not even four months PP. This fucking blows. I was anticipating it when I went back to work, maybe 6 months at the earliest.
Anyone else get theirs yet? It always tanked my supply when DS1 was little. I think I got it back around 8 months last time.
I got mine at the beginning of this month and it was actually a really easy period surprisingly. Last time after DS it was hell.
Just found out I have to go out of town to out Minnesota plant middle of next month for three days. Looks like we might be weaning a little early. Was going for 6 months so this will be a little over 5. My stash is dwindling and my boobs are struggling to keep up during the work week pumping.

melody330 I just had bleeding/spotting twice in a span of a couple weeks, I was so pissed haha. I guess it's pretty common the first couple months after having the Mirena put in, but still. Sam nurses every 1-2 hours, that should be enough to hold it back!

I can very much relate to this. Between working and distracted nursing, I am pretty close to being done. I really only nurse once overnight, morning, evening and pump once a day at work. I was ready to completely call it quits earlier this week, but then she started nursing better so I figure we will keep rolling with things as they are now. Or until I get so tired of pumping that I smash it against a wall. We have been supplementing with formula since i went back to work, so whatever happens at this point won't hurt my feelings. I think I weaned J right around this same age, too.
Hugs ladies. This stuff is not easy. I started work on Monday and my supply is already dropping. I have been trying to squeeze in three pumping sessions while at work (only doable now because my caseload isn't full yet). I usually can get 4 ounces every three hours but I just got 2.5 ounces. I'll try to up my water and calories but if that doesn't help oh well. I pumped until 11 months with DD1 so I will feel some guilt if I don't make it that far with DD2 but I'm not going to kill myself trying to squeeze in pumping if it's not doing anything.
ellebelle, I would go crazy with the water, that usually made the difference for me. I drink a lot less at home on the weekend and on Mondays I would get much less. I drink tons at work so during the week I would see a rebound on my supply.

I've had 3 already. Someone here convinced me at 7 weeks it was a 6th week bleed, but it came again at 11 weeks and 15. At least I can track cycles to avoid now. I got it back at 10 weeks after dd, so I wasn't shocked, but still annoying.
ETA I take a calcium magnesium supplement starting about a week before my period is due and it helps with the supply dip.
I have a distracted nurser right now too. She also does the clamp and turns her head. Hurts like hell! I may close her door and put a sign on it when I'm feeding her - DH or DD1 always want to come in and talk to me and she can't nurse well then. I've had three cycles since having DD almost 6 months ago. I got my period a lot more quickly this time than when I had DD1. I hope that's the reason my supply has suddenly tanked in the last two days, because I'm barely pumping 3 oz per session at work during the day. I've started taking Motherlove More Milk Plus ($$$) and I'm going to make another batch of my lactation cookies, which I haven't had to make for about 3 months now.

I need to bake up a batch also. I often only get 2 or less oz per session at work. I hate having to pump 6x for him to eat 3x.

My supply tanked after I had the stomach flu last week. It took 5 days of drinking 3 cups of Mothers Milk tea daily, eating oatmeal every day, and eating lactation cookies to finally see a difference.

THIS MORNING! I've had pink spotting twice, which I never had before. Both times I was sure it was my period starting but then it held off. Today, bright red bleeding. 4 months yesterday. I had 15 months with DD. We are all sick with head colds, so I have no idea how this is hitting my supply and he's snacking anyway because he can't breathe and nurse right now.

So, I work in-office 2 days a week. I pump 3-4x a day on those days and to say the least, I'm not able to keep up with what A eats with the babysitter. I start off pretty good with 3-4 oz in the morning, but I barely get 1-1 1/2 oz the other times. He drinks about 12 oz while at the babysitter and I'm getting about half of his needs. What are some ways I can boost my supply? So far I'm trying to drink more water, blue Gatorade (I forgot to bring one with me to work today so I missed out on that), oatmeal...

I didn't use those instructions exactly, but while pumping at work I'd wait for the milk to stop flowing for a few minutes, then hit the "let down" button again (on a Medela) to start the cycle over again.
While you are together, try letting A comfort nurse for longer periods, like letting him nap at the breast.

Can you ask the babysitter to give the bottles at a different time? It helped me to nurse DS1 one second before I dropped him off at DC, and immediately before. I also had his teacher work the bottles out so he didn't get a bottle at least 45 minutes before I was picking him up. Does that make sense? We were able to drop a bottle this way and I could keep up better.

Thanks, great idea. We're kind of doing this. Babysitter is my mom--so I will often text her when I'm a half hour from leaving so she can avoid doing any bottles in that time frame and then I just nurse him when I get to her house. Unfortunately, my mom is not the greatest at getting him down for naps, so I think he eats more during the day with her because he's not sleeping.

Preface - no solution or help below but I feel you completely.
This is me.....I have slowly gone through my freezer stash and I am officially out. Ever since going back to work, I have struggled to keep up with her demands at DC (she seems to be ok when we are at home but takes both breasts instead of one). However, I was never in it for the long haul (my initial goal was 6 months) and I have a business trip that will take me out of town next month for 3 days. Since I haven't been able to keep up with her demands currently and my freezer stash is gone, we have no choice but to start introducing formula. Currently, DC is mixing 25% formula so that we can slowly wean her over the next 2.5 weeks. I am having a bit of mom guilt over it even though I know I shouldn't and I am really going to miss the convenience of things.
Why cant I just give formula when I want and breastfeed when I want LOL!

Definitely stay uber hydrated. I notice a massive difference. I'm similar to you, I get 3ish at first, cut then only 2ish the second and third pump.
Right now to make up for it I am pumping before work, as soon as I get home fro whatever side he's not eating from while he eats, and before bed to get the 12oz I need. I also pump when I can on the weekend to fill any gaps during the week.
Double check your using the correct flange size. I recently realized the one I'm using is way too big (by like 6mm) so I'm hoping this will increase my efficiency.

I drink 2-3 cups of the earth mama angel baby mothers milk tea a day plus oatmeal and lactation cookies daily to keep my suppply up. I also hydrate like crazy.
I really notice a difference when I am not hydrated and also when I am not getting enough calories per day, my supply goes way down.
+1 on hydration and calories. I drink over 100 oz of water a day otherwise my supply drops. I also notice Mothers Milk tea helps a lot. I pump 3x during the day and once before bed.
