My supply has dropped some since returning to work, and I've completely gone through my freezer stash. I pump at work 3-4x, then just nurse on demand at home. We supplement with formula when necessary, I also think my MIL gives him too much milk in the bottles, but that's a whole other story 🙄🙄🙄

i have come to the conclusion my boobs are special they love the pump and I can easily overproduce. So it makes feeding my baby while at work easy. I wish I could make it that easy for everyone so you guys didn't have to worry so much about producing enough.
I havent had a period yet. I made it 8 months last time. I am not sure I will make it that long this time.

Thank you for the suggestions, all. I def needed to change flange sizes. Mine were way too big. I actually ended up ordering some Pumpin Pals at the suggestion of one of my IRL friends and am going to try them today.
acorn99 - Did I read right that you recently weaned? I am going through the process right now since I have a business trip next week. Any advice for me?
HK took a couple of formula bottles this weekend and didn't seem to have too much of an issue and I have instructed daycare to do a half and half mix of breast to formula. DH is going to try to do bedtime tonight with formula. I usually don't burp when I nurse her to sleep but I feel like she needs to burp with formula. I am also clueless on soothing when a good comfort nurse calms her so quickly. I know I went through this with T and I am sure it will come back but I don't remember anything it seems like LOL.

jenn83, my best advice is to catch a nasty cold in the process, it really tanks your supply What I really did was slowly start cutting out nursing sessions and cut back to pumping once a day at work. The last couple of weeks I was nursing in the morning, pumping at lunch and then nursing right before bed. The last feed I usually ended up supplementing with formula as well. Once I started cutting those last sessions out, I just made sure hand express or let her nurse for just a couple of minutes if I started to get uncomfortable. Not for long, just enough to ease any discomfort. A also started STTN by the end, so that helped slow things down, too.
Without regular pumping, is there a way to know if your supply is ok? Things seem to be going well - E eats often, is satisfied, and has enough wet diapers, but he keeps dropping in percentages on his growth chart. Ped isn't concerned, but I wonder if there is a better way to nurse to make sure he gets more fatty milk. I don't make chunky babies (DS1 has always been long and lean) so I don't expect for him to all of a sudden get rolls, but I don't want him to keep dropping in percentiles.

rungirlrun does he eat from one side at a time or both? I would say if his poops look normal then your probably providing plenty of the fatty hindmilk. I would just continue to BF on demand and as much as possible through the day for as long as he wants. I know it's hard not to worry but if your pedi isn't concerned and he seems ok otherwise i would try not to dwell on it too much.

Similar situation here. DS was 25th percentile at 2 months, 10th at 4. I specifically asked if it was a concern and our ped said she doesn't care much about percentiles as long as his curve looks good, and it does. I don't make chunky babies either - dd is still slim - but neither have ever looked too skinny. I was quite surprised that at 4 months DS was almost a pound lighter than dd was, because he was born nearly 2 lbs heavier. He's a mover though and they speculated I'll have trouble keeping weight on him just because he's in constant motion. I do feel like I'm in no position to drop night feeds though, so that stinks.

He generally eats one side at a time, and his poops look normal. So the rational side of me knows all is fine. But part of me feels guilty for having skinny kids - like I don't feed them properly. So many moms comment how chunky their baby is and have so much pride in that. And people in general love baby rolls. So I feel like I'm doing something wrong in that I've never had chunky kids despite nursing them what seems like constantly.

Your babies are healthy, so I say that's the definition of enough milk. I know, I know. It's so stressful to worry but you guys have all the proof in your beautiful babies that they're good. Plus the doctor's okay to put you over the top. You could ask to do a weighed feeding somewhere (like my hospital has lactation support groups) and they might let you use the really accurate scales.
Trying really hard to just see it as a fluctuation... but I still feel like my supply is dropping. I only pumped a little over 8 ounces total at work yesterday. I had been getting 12 my first few days back. DD was up for about an hour straight last night and wouldn't get off the boob, so I'm sure today will be a lower output again but trying. all. the. things. I drank about a gallon of water yesterday (literally), had a Guinness last night, oatmeal this morning and a mug of mother's milk tea currently on my desk. Come on, boobs, lets do this.

My supply dropped a bit when I returned to work, but I've been back about 2 months now & it seems to be evening out. I've even got a (very very small) freezer stash starting to build up again. FX your boobs get the memo!

A's latest thing now is while nursing, he is slapping my boob and dragging his nails into my boob. And pulling on my shirt. Seems to only happen on the right side. I tried handing him a lovey to hold instead but he wants nothing to do with it. My skin is raw from the manhandling. Any tips?

Oh man! B does this too. Have you tried a nursing/teething necklace? They have brightly colored ones that are super cute.
And keep A's nails short! My neck & chest has claw marks because B's nails need to be cut!

I'm dealing with the wild arm too. She likes to yank on my bra and shirt. So far I get by with just holding her hand.
But IME it gets worse. My DD1 has always been a rough, wild kid and around 9 months I was ready to quit BFing because I felt like she was beating me up. Multiple times she poked my eye so hard I cried. She'd pull my hair, my lips, scratch my face. I had to BF with my head turned as far away from her as I could go. Sorry this isn't helpful. It sucks.

I wanted to add that we had S's 4 month appt today and he has dropped in percentile at well from the mid 40's to the mid 20's. He has gained 2 lbs in 2 months and all of his growth curves are on track so the Dr isn't concerned.
comicSans, sarcaztic10, rungirlrun, add us to the dropping in percentiles. We just had a belated 4 month well check yesterday and Irene dropped from 90th to 75th percentile. Our doctor was pretty concerned about it and made us schedule a weight check in a month but she's still 75th! Also DD1 dropped between 4 and 6 months (from about 75th to 25th) and then continued to be long and lean after that so I feel like I make skinny babies. I'm surprised that Irene was as big as she was when she was born honestly. She usually takes 12 ounces at daycare (she's there for 8 hours) and never is hungry after her bottles. Of course today when I'm worried about her she only took 7 ounces and refused to nurse to sleep but she's also sick.
ellebelle that's crazy and just shows the huge difference in pediatricians. To think she's 75th and your ped is concerned where ours isn't about my lil 10th percentile peanut.
comicSans, ellebelle, rungirlrun, Ask your ped what growth chart they're using. Most use the older chart that was designed for formula fed babies (according to my lactation consultant). She said it is totally normal for breastfed babies to drop off a little around 4-6 months. (I am pretty sure you are all bf'ing based on your posts, so please forgive the assumption if not!) There is a new curve from only 2 or 3 years ago designed for exclusively breastfed babies!

Pretty sure ours uses the bf curve and that's why she's not concerned. They always confirm that I'm still exclusively bf'ing. I'm not really concerned either, I just feel like at 10th percentile when he wants to eat every 3 hours all night long, I have to comply because he needs the calories, and I'm tired.

A poke in the nose?
I kid.
IVe got nothing though - F has started biting with his two new teeth. No fun. Lol

Sam has been doing this since basically day 1 because he can NEVER. STOP. MOVING. Usually if it gets really bad I will take his hand and hold onto it for a couple minutes and then let go to see if he's forgotten about it yet. Sometimes we'll spend the entire nursing session holding hands because of it! Another idea, do you have any of those newborn mittens laying around? You might try throwing those on before he eats.
Question for anyone who has had mastitis... Did it come on super quickly? I woke up to a slightly achy right breast out of the blue this morning. I thought I just pressed too hard when doing compressions pumping yesterday. However, over the work day so far today I have started to feel icky and fever-ish (with chills) and the breast feels warm to the touch. I'm going to check my temp when I get home but I just didn't think mastitis would come on so fast? Wouldn't I have felt discomfort from the duct being clogged before it progressed to that?

Same here. They're using the BF curve charts. I try to tell them that I feed on demand but the doctor kept asking all these questions about how much I can get when I pump (even though that's not completely indicative of what the baby is getting). I also am not trying to sleep train yet so I will feed her during the night whenever she wakes up crying. Oh well.SaveSave

I had it with DD1 and it came on within a day. I don't recall having a clogged duct before I got it. Hope you don't get it, it's horrible!!SaveSave

Yes, I've had it three times. Only once did I have a clog the day before.
The most recent time it happened so fast. Hours. I felt funny and a few hours later I had chills, high fever and the redness came last.
FX you don't have it....I'm not sure what time it is where you are but I wouldn't go the night without abx. My MW prescribed me something over the phone MOTN last time.
