I'm up waiting for my next dose of painkillers and Lilah is asleep so I figured I'd go ahead and write up my birth story.
We got to the hospital at 5am on 11/11. We got checked in quickly since I did all my pre-admission paperwork and blood work the day before. The nurse got my IV in and put me on the monitor right away. I was about 3.5cm, 70% effaced, and having regular contractions every 5-7 minutes. They started pitocin at 6:15 at a 2. At 7am, my dr came to check on me and they started upping my pitocin by 2 every 30 minutes. I was able to walk and talk easily through the contractions until my dr broke my water at 11am. At that point I hadn't made any progress and tried shuffling about despite having to do my patterned breathing for the pain. Around 12 I asked for fentanyl. I was checked again and was 5cm, 80%. That helped me to relax in-between contractions and actually took a bit of the edge off. By 1, it wore off and I started having very intense contractions pretty close together. I again tried walking, but was starting to lose it. I figured I had to be in transition and was checked again at 1:30. No change. I decided to try the shower and squats. After 15 minutes I was in tears and told the nurse I couldn't do it and I wanted the epidural. I went back to the bed to try and survive the contractions until the epidural was ready. But, once in the bed I felt the urge to push. I told the nurse and she offered to check again. Sure enough, I was at a 9-9.5 already. This was 30 minutes after my last check when I was at 5cm still. I have a history of quick delivery so they called in the dr and another nurse who arrived within minutes. Everyone got into position and I pushed when I wanted. It took roughly five minutes, 2 contractions to get her out. Lilah Julianne was born at 2:11pm. 8lb, 12oz and 20.5" long. Bigger than her sister by 10oz! I had a 2nd degree tear and got stitched up. Then she nursed for the first time.
So, a couple of interesting notes about the date and time of birth. DH and his sister were both born on the 11th of other months. Lilah's birthday is SIL's half birthday (she is May 11). DH's birthday was exactly 9 months ago. So, yes, she was a birthday conception baby. And the other crazy thing? DH's birth date is February 11...2/11. The same as the baby's time of birth.
And one other thing, one of my closest friends was due 2 days after me. She started her induction on the 10th, but her baby was born almost exactly 30 minutes before mine. I actually had 2 induction twins!
