Hi All,
I hope it is okay I intro here. We have been trying to conceive our second child for just about 2 years. My first was born via emergency c-section due to a placental aburption at 31 weeks. I lost a lot of blood and went into DIC. I was in the ICU getting transfusions for the first day of his life. Thankfully we both recovered and are fine now.
After a year of trying we starting seeing an RE. We did three IUIs...all unsuccessful. On our IVF cycle we were about to have our retrieval followed by a fresh transfer when the dr called me and said that she was concerned about how my c-section scar looked on some of the recent ultrasounds. It was filling with fluid and getting larger with the additional hormones from the IVF meds. We did the retrieval and froze 2 embryos. I then saw a specialist to see if surgery would be necessary to repair the scar. The specialist said that if I were to get surgery it would be more invasive because the scar is close to my bladder. He didn't feel it was worth it because the risks/correlation between c-section scars and risky pregnancy is unknown.
Then we saw the MFM and RE and their take away was a little different. They are worried about the placenta growing inside the uterus or inside the bladder both scenarios would require an emergency hysterectomy. RE recommended using a gestational carrier for our embryo. We set up a consultation to discuss this option.
Alongside the consultation. The MFM we are working with reached out to a doctor in NYC that has had some experience with cases like mine and he offered to take a look at my scans and give a recommendation as well. Right now we are trying to get all the information we can before making a decision.
So hello! And if anyone has any experience with using a gestational carrier I would love you input. TIA!
