Today we put up our Christmas tree and went for a long walk in the dog park. I'm going to ladies paint night tonight so that should be fun... made a huge batch of Chocolate Oatmeal Coconut cookies yesterday and they are already gone. I was planning on bringing some to my girlfriends tonight, but apparently we can't control ourselves in this house.
Got a ton of cloth diapers from my cousin who chose to go the disposable route after all - I'm going to need some help figuring out what I have and what I still need. ourcrazynavylife you're one of the resident cloth diaper experts, right? Who else has knowledge? I'm going to take some pics and make a list and probably make a thread on pregnancy at some point.
ourcrazynavylife I might make a post somewhere, but for now here it is...
I *think* I understand the types of diapers I have. Most of them are either covers, or have pockets for absorbent liners. I have LOTS of liners, and lots of pre-folds. I'm less concerned about those since I think those are way cheaper to order.

mosdub I think that's a good number OS. They typically say about 12 per day so 24 changes for every other day washing. I don't know a ton about those brands. Except Kawaii are big. Plenty of people like BG pockets. I think you've got a good mix of brands to see what works. I would suggest maybe 1 or 2 all-in-twos and 1 or 2 all-in-ones to try. Grovia or best bottoms are good AI2, smart bottoms are my fav AIO.
As for newborns, I think you're going to want a few more again go by the 12 per day rule. I liked to use workhorses at night (too expensive to use full time). We had 8 and that worked for us. Again with the brand it's good you have a mix. I wasn't crazy about Rumparooz. We used Thirsties covers. I know plenty of people like Imagines tho. Economically the easiest thing to do is get 1-2 more covers and just make sure you have plenty of prefolds.

Me! We use cloth except on overnight trips. I can help!

Thank you!!! Seriously that was very helpful. It's hard not knowing what brand or style we will prefer. I feel like I would prefer AIOs since they seem like less work in general, but they are so pricey. I'm going to keep my eyes open for deals and try to snag some here and there.

mosdub it's definitely way better to try all the styles. I bought ONLY pockets because I thought we wouldn't like the others. We completely restashed to AI2 and then restashed again to AIOs lol

Thoughts on brands/types/numbers?
I tried a handful of them. We found thirsties were huge (tried XS ones for the NB stage). Pocket wise, we tried Charlie banana, Alva, bumgenius, and a fourth brand I can't recall for some reason. The only ones we stuck with were the bumgenius which we use for daycare. At home, we use best bottoms.
For the NB stage, we did econobum covers with Kawaii bamboo flats. I now use the flats to stuff his pockets as an added absorber.
We were using flip and blueberry capri covers for bedtime for a while but they no longer fit.
For NB's you want 24-36 diapers, depending on how often you wish to wash. Once you move up, it depends on what you want to use. We went through 10-12 changes a day for about the first year and now we're at 7-8 per day.
I wouldn't get more than 3-4 per brand and type combo because you don't know what will work for you and your baby. You'll definitely want newborns if you wish to cloth from the get go since very few OS will fit properly for their skinny legs, unless you have a baby with nice chunky ones. DS was able to fit in OS around 2 months old, which is when he started to put some meat on his chicken legs. He was 8lbs 6oz at birth but wasn't super chunky, just very dense, so weight isn't necessarily everything.
Also, on covers, you want as many as your baby poops. You can wipe down covers with pee, but newborn poop tends to get everywhere and you'll want to wash the diaper when the cover gets solid
I'm jealous. Seriously. I hate these giant things. So much back pain from the added weight. I was very happy with my 32C's pre-DS. They be gone by May, I hope, if they follow the same trend as with DS that they seem to be. I've gone from a 32D to a 32F (size above a triple D). With DS, 32C to a 32DDD. I'm screwed. 😅
