waitwhat, As danib says, as long as he is able to walk flat footed it could be normal. If you wanted, you could test the tightness of his calf muscles. Can you easily push his foot upward (on the ball of his foot up toward his shin)? If you do it while he's sleeping or distracted by tv you will get a better sense if it's the muscle that's tight or if he is resisting. It should be easy to bend the foot upward so that you have an angle smaller than 90 degrees. (I hope this makes sense, I never realized how hard it is to write things like this out. I give credit to the authors of all my textbooks!)
kleigh our bedtime routine for DS was basically the exact same as what hangry posted above. B was in the nursery from day 1 so once our pedi gave us this advice I started doing everything in there starting around 7:30.
I do C's baths in the morning for the time being, but otherwise this is basically what we do for her, as well. She's been sleeping in the PNP in our room since I got sick, so it's a bit wonky at the moment, but we are planning on moving her back to the nursery this wknd. I still do her bedtime stuff in the nursery and then just put her down for the night in our room.
waitwhat DD started tiptoeing about that age. I wouldn't try and discourage it, as others have said as long g as they can and most often do walk flat footed they are fine. It's actually an important step in learning balance and core strength if you think about it.
As far as the bed time routine discussion goes DD didn't have an clear bed time until she set it at about 6 months old. Until then we would wait until the 9:30 ish feeding and then all head upstairs. The same routine is happening this time around. We start DD's bed time routine at 7:30 then H, DS and I chill in the living room until about 10 when we all head upstairs to feed one last time and off to bed. The earlier routine will come, if DS is going to be fussy it's between 8 and 10 so an early bed time is just not going to happen now. I will say I am not a huge nap and bed time stickler so maybe that plays into this? We work by the philosophy of keeping as consistent a routine as possible so that we can be flexible when we want to. I am not crazy enough to plan an activity to start right after lunch aka typical nap time, but we also don't race home to meet a 1pm nap time every day if that makes sense. The same goes with bed time. **And DD does well with this, clearly if she flipped her shit at 1pm every day or 7:29pm every evening things would be different.
We have the proofs back from our photographer for our family photo session yay! We can choose 10 prints to get digital rights to, we have it narrowed down to 16 and the thought of cutting out any more makes me tear up. The hormones!
Tonight has sucked. Lilah went down pretty easily at about 9, but then Lillian did not and woke up crying right when I was going to sleep at about 10:30. She said she didn't feel good so we let her come to our bed. Of course she wouldn't settle and cried in our room which woke up Lilah. Finally got them both resettled, went to go to sleep and Lillian starts crying again. Which of course woke up Lilah again. So I didn't actually go to sleep until 1:30 since one or the other was awake crying until then. And here we are less than 2 hours later with Lilah awake to nurse. I'm hoping the rest of the night is better. I already want to nap tomorrow.
@badwolf321 I'm up, though it's been a couple hours now since you asked. Hopefully you're getting some sleep now! ClassyMrsA, that sounds miserable. I am definitely hoping for a nap for you tomorrow! So far we've managed to avoid the simultaneous newborn and toddler wakeup (*knock so much wood*) but it's something I totally dread.
Tonight was better than last. I got a 2 hour sleep to start the night while H held DD. I took over around 1 and she was asleep by 1:30, and went until 4:50. I got about 2-2.5 hours in there.
I was hoping to nurse her, tighten her swaddle, and out her right back down, but her first poosplosion made that impossible. So FX hard this feeding will knock her out again because I'd like another hour or two before DS wakes up.
Also apparently the sleeper I tried to put on her is too small. I can't snap the last two crotch snaps so they're just open. Sorry kid. Guess we'll be moving on to 0-3 months tomorrow.
Rough night here, as well. I was so tired I didn't even have the energy to type. DH took C for awhile and then MIL took a turn until I had to nurse again.
Despite the hard night, dh got up, took care of feeding/entertaining the toddler, and brought me breakfast in bed. Damn I love that man. Now if he'll stop at Starbucks on our way out to do errands today...
DH has a flight today; they do one weekend shift a month and today is his. B and I are currently putting up some Christmas decorations. May go over to my parents' later just to get out for a bit; part of me would like to do a little shopping but not sure I want to brave weekend crowds with both kids by myself.
ILs left early this morning. I am thankful to have my house back.
I'm sorry guys, did I jinx every body? If it's any consolation last night was no different with Adeline lol.
Around 6:00p we shut down the tv and the lights, I fed her and rocked her to sleep with white noise going - put her down and she was okkkkkay (still fussing/moving) until about 8... The end. No sleep for this woman. H handles Alec during all this, he offers to help with Adeline but it's I feel so bad when I hear her screaming that I'd rather be the one to try to soothe her.
I tried letting her sleep on my chest while I sat on the couch, upright in a chair, in the glider in the nursery, in bed, while I walked the floors, while I climbed up and down the stairs (that one was fun), then I tried putting her in the pack n play bassinet, in the RnP, I laid her down flat on the couch (supervised obviously)... I tried EVERYTHING.. And nothing worked lol. It's gonna be a long few weeks while we figure this out.
Sorry for all the hard nights, but kinda glad it wasn't just me.
I feel so bad for all of us (*subjectively bad, like hey we have squishes in our arms things could be worse) - and I said the same to H.. The witching hour got us all.

kleigh Do you have a swing? Lillian would only sleep in the swing for the first 2 months. We didn't leave it on, but she just liked being in it. Eta: Our swing was relatively flat, more like a RnP. I know some swings are more upright and wouldn't be good for sleep.
Unfortunately, my lack of sleep is attributed to the toddler more than the baby. Sigh. The Lillian sleep saga continues. She'll sleep normally someday, right?
ClassyMrsA I don't have a swing!!! I'm happy to try it! We have tons of BRU gift cards anyway, do you have a recommendation?
waitwhat I've worn her in the Boba a couple times and she passes out cold instantaneously. But she seems to feel so hot in it (?). I'm not experienced enough to get her out of it yet keep her sleeping but I'll try it!! I will literally try anything. Except rum on my fingertip *looking at you ILs*
kleigh I'm not ClassyMrsA but we have the Fisher Price snugapuppy swing and it's amazing. D loves it and it's my go-to place to set her down if I need to during the day. We didn't have a swing for DS and now I can't understand why not.

We have the FP Cradle and Swing. You can rotate the seat so you go front to back or side to side. C seems to like it.
Do you have a consignment close by? Seriously swings are ABUNDANT at the consignment store maybe H can pick one up? So much cheaper especially since it's an item that seems to be hit or miss among babies.

Agreed. That's where we got ours. It was like 1/2 the price of a new one.
