I know there has been some chatter at CD and starting stashes. I figure having one thread with information versus random posts in other threads will help people find this later if needed!
I am a big fan of the green mountain diaper workhorse with a wool cover for night time. We have never had a leak with that combo. They have been running a sale all weekend and I got a couple more in the next size up for DD since they never go on sale.
redrock - We're hoping to find a CD-friendly daycare. I haven't asked yet. I think after the holidays we'll start looking around. From what I've heard, many will do it they just prefer AIOs or pockets so there's one piece for them to handle. I hope that's true!
leloyd (& maybe redrock too?) - I've been researching types of CDs and lurking the NJCD board and I'm trying to figure out what's best for the newborn stage. I see a ton of love for flats + covers to contain runny NB poo. Do you think workhorses would work? I think they would be easier for my H to figure out, though he told me as long as I teach him he'll do whatever I decide. The one thing he doesn't want to do is a trial and then a mad rush to buy more of the ones we like. He would much prefer for me to decide and stock up ahead of time so we're ready.
Any good suggestions for starter packages? We don't have many options here in Canada but i'm willing to look online. We have some "home made" ones in shops around here but that seems bad news to me

The workhorses definitely contained the nb poop and were super easy to use. I will say, I thought I would like the ones with snaps since they would be super simple but I wound up preferring the snapless ones since you can get a better fit and use them longer.

I had heard in my area that daycares were not CD friendly so we were planning on CD at home and using disposables for daycare. However, my husband happened to ask our daycare when we were interviewing them about it and they were completely on board and already had several other kids in CD. They do prefer AIOs or pockets at our daycare, but if I run out and send the prefolds and covers they do fine with those too. I have never tried to send a flat their way though - that might be asking too much.
This is all to say, when you are building your stash you may find that prefolds or workhorses do best at home and aios/pockets work best for daycare. So you may want to have a nice mix.
Is anyone interested in the cloth diapering stuff I have left? Wet bags, a couple covers, random other diapers, liners, wipes. It's all barely used or brand new.

I would! We plan to use CD exclusively and are just starting out
I'd like to get something for the NWT stuff at least, and the wet bags are still almost brand new. Well everything is actually. But I'm not overly concerned about how much I get (other than covering shipping), I just don't want to store these anymore. So make me an offer!
Planet wise wet bags. new with tags. The white one is a Kissaluvs antibacterial Pail liner.
Planet wise hanging wet bags. These have been used once or twice each.
newborn sized covers. Left is Rumparooz and right is Planet wise.
pocket diapers. Happy Heinys and Oh Katy. These may have been discontinued...not sure.
Wool covers from etsy.
Front and back of newborn imagine all in one. This was used once. The little flap part snaps down, and one of the two snaps is missing.
Diaper sprayer.
Liners and wipes. I don't think I've used any of these. I think I have 12 wipes and 6 of ones set of liners and 10 of the other? And the disposable ones. I'll check the #s if anyone is interested. And the pins, I'll throw those in with whatever.
The hanging wet bags are $30 new - I'd love to get like $15 + some amount toward shipping, but am flexible. The kissaluvs one retails for $15, rumparooz covers are $12 new I think, planet wise $15. The diaper sprayer is $50 on Nikki's Diapers and I've never used it - I'd take $15 + shipping. I see Happy Heiny on Kelly's Closet for $16, I'd take $5 + shipping. It looks like the Oh Katy one has been discontinued, so I have no idea and I'd just throw that in with whatever else I'm sending. Does that help?
I kind of have no idea on second hand pricing either, it would just be nice to recover a little!
Edited to add: if someone wanted to take it all I'd make a deal!!

So I started my stash this weekend. I've been lucky to find a lot of AIO's and a couple of prefolds but not too much in terms of used. I've been thinking of taking the plunge and going new, I'm hopeful we are going to have more children and then I have to worry less about elastics or diaper integrity. My challenge now is starter kits, here in Canada it looks like I'll have three options name brand (bum genius, apple cheeks), local made and Costco, I know that they are made in China but are they worth the wear

I have been building a stash for a looooong time, it's been like my "someday dream". I have mostly used but excellent condition. Some brand new and a combination of AIOs and pockets.
I've started doing research and making a list of potential diapers to purchase. I'm going to separate out the newborn vs. regular stash. Right now I'm focusing on NB. Anyone have thoughts on these? I've read good reviews either on the NJCD board here, from personal blogs, and on websites selling them. I've read to get one or two of each type because they might fit better at different stages and also I might like some more than others. Solid advice?
Diapers: GMD Workhorse Fitted Cloth-eez Prefold
Covers: Thirsties Duo Wrap (size 1 for NB) Blueberry Capri (size 1 for NB) Blueberry Mini Coveralls BumGenius Flip (OS only, but read it could work on NB) Rumparooz
AIOs: Blueberry Simplex NB Imagine NB GroVia NB Lil Joeys (by RaR)
As you can see, right now I'm leaning toward fitted/prefold with a cover and AIOs mostly for when we're out and about or maybe at night when sleep-deprived. Pockets would be a pain to take the time to stuff as I will be going back to work and H has no time to help. DNW to spend precious free time stuffing diapers (I have had people say it's not that bad, but I would rather use my time to edit baby photos, etc).
marshian, - Love, Love LOVE GMD workhorse fitteds. They are super easy to use and get a trim fit with and they are very absorbent. I have used both the coth-eez prefolds and the GPM and either is a great choice. I personally prefer the GMD but that's just me.
I have both Rumparooz and Thirsties covers. The elastic on the Rumparooz is tighter and holds up a bit better, but if you get a chunker the thirties will fit better
AI0s. The Blueberry Simple is nice but the flappy thing constantly has to be straightened out so you are still digging around in there like a pocket so if you don't want to stuff, you may not like that. I personally love Grovia's AIOs. They are super trim so when baby starts moving it doesn't get in their way. I didn't get NB sized AIOs or pockets though. I primarily used fitteds and covers until baby fit the one size AIOs and pockets (which happened in about 3 weeks- 1 month)
leloyd - Thank you for your thoughts! I wouldn't have know that about the Blueberry Simplex. Good to know.
redrock - I wouldn't be intimidated by folding flats, but I know my H won't have the time to deal with it. Plus baby will either be in daycare or with a nanny along with another little one in diapers around the 3- or 4-month mark, so flats would be too complicated besides a simple pad fold, so might make more sense to do prefolds for ease. Gotta keep it simple for everyone! If I was SAH, I would look harder at flats. The folds look cool!

I've currently built a stash from second hand stores (mostly bumgenious 4.0, and fuzzibunz). I have about 12 diapers so I'll obviously need a lot more. It's hard to find used diapers for a decent price around here so I've ordered a starter kit from all things fluff. Really considering if I want to buy newborn CD's or use disposables/hybrids until baby is old enough for one size diapers

I have put myself on a restriction until we know what we are having. I have about 40ish AIO or pocket neutral diapers, about 10 newborns, inserts, and just need to chill for a bit. But once we find out-no guarantees. I will be on all the BST sites!

Newborn cloth! It seems intimidating at first but once you start it's so easy. Also, it gives you a great idea of what styles you like before you buy your whole one size stash. If you stick with mostly prefolds and covers with some other styles to try, it's still cheaper than disposables. Baby could be in nb sizes for 3 months.
Finally, you'll have WAY fewer poop blowouts in cloth. We used disposables for 2 weeks while I was recovering from my c/s and had so many blowouts. Once in cloth, none. Maybe a tiny leak every so often but nothing major at all.

Thanks!! I was looking for someone to tell me that. Do you have any recommendations for brands? I'm small and so is DH so my guess is I'm going to make a small, skinny baby (I know this is not always true). I live in the middle of nowhere Canada so waiting until baby is born is not an option (will have to order online)

Yup. I'll write up a longer post for you when I'm not mobile later.
