Following. I think we'll be looking for a harness to booster for dd so eventually we'll move dd to that and put ds in the convertible. My kids are both small so we're probably a ways off, but Amazon has 40% off some Britax seats.

If you are going to buy soon, keep an eye on kohls. We just got DS2 another Britax convertible and kohls was matching Amazon price to the penny plus they had $15 kohls cash for every $50 spent. We ended up paying the same price as Amazon, free shipping, and have $90 to use through other Christmas gifts. 👍

Ooooh did not know the Kohl's price matches Amazon. We won't need the seat for at least 9 months, maybe longer when ds outgrows his infant seat, and I can probably keep dd rf just as long, but that's a darn good deal.

Not price match in the sense of "hey look it's cheaper elsewhere, will you match" but like it's online for the exact same price as Amazon has. 😊

Ah, ok. Currently the one I'd be interested in is not the same price, and the Kohl's cash deal is over. I'm not ready to commit, so I'll watch that in the future.

+1 following. I got lazy after the last time I asked and still haven't gotten a new seat (using pull-ups instead of clothing diapers has temporarily solved the straps too short problem) but she is almost too tall.
Like emmagk would like narrow and light enough for airplane use.
Ideally would like to still have RF option but am back and forth on that. May not be possible with wanting a small (fit an old Honda civic) and lightweight (for travel plus we move the seat between cars a lot) one that is not crazy expensive.
I agree with bazingaa. We recently got the Graco Milestone convertible at Kohls. We waited until it was on sale and then got kohls cash + rewards which totaled over $50. It ended up cheaper than amazon + $ to spend for the holidays.
Re Kohl's, not all promos apply to car seats. I checked the Graco Nautilus this morning on their website and it is excluded from the cyber Monday discounts.
The Graco Nautilus 80 is on sale at BRU for $140 (usually $200) after all discounts plus you get $5 in rewards if you pick up in store and have a rewards card. I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and get it. .

I finally bit the bullet and bought the 65 today for each of our cars. It's $111 on amazon. I missed it last week when it was $99 at Walmart.
We have the Nautilus and we like it. We also have the Evenflo Maestro. They are both really good seats and we shouldn't have to buy another one. The Maestro is a lighter seat so it allows for a higher weight limit to use with the LATCH system (54 lbs vs 45lbs), but otherwise they are very similar. DD1 can buckle herself up so they are easy in that aspect. And the Maestro is actually a lot easier to install. The evenflo is really reasonable at Target and I got it when there was a cartwheel discount as well.
I can't comment on the size as far as traveling on planes though.

The 80 in red is $130 on Amazon but I'm afraid the red will be too pink. The BRU one is gray.

I'm sorry emmagk. I typed something up on Monday, but must not have posted it.
These seat recs are for Canadian mommas. The Us and Canadian versions have different limits.
Here is the link for recommended Canadian seats.
The chase isn't recommended because the harness maxes out at 40lbs, and most kids will reach that weight before they are ready for a booster seat. The evenflo maestro or harmony defender will last longer, but are above your budget.

lrmrtn, the nautilus is a god seat, but is wide. That isn't a problem if there is only 1 kid in the back though. If you are already FF or are planning on doing it shortly, I would stay away from getting a convertible. Buying one to use with a. FF kid, is only using 50% of its usage. Here is a list of recommended combination seats (FF harness to booster). csftl.org/recommended-seats/#combination
I'm sorry I didn't get to this stuff last week.
Also, seats for the US and Canada have different specs, so what will work/ fit a budget here, may not do that up there.
I feel very ignorant about the convertible car seat vs. the fwd facing harness. As I begin thinking of transitioning from the infant "bucket" seat, I'm wondering about the harness (for ds1). Honestly I'm thinking about this so I can just transition the kids with the seats I have and to buy the "next stage" seats. I'm not ready to do this yet, but want to start learning about it now. Any good links that help explain?
ETA questions: are the fwd facing car seat and harness equally safe if you meet the ht/wt requirements?

I guess we'll go with the maestro then. The defender is too heavy to be used as a travel seat. Thanks!
Thanks rainbowsockmonkey! We're going to have to turn DS FF soon even though I don't want to because he's getting close to the RF weight limit so we'll get a combo seat. I like the Graco Nautilus 80 because of the higher weight limit and price point. We'll only have one car seat in each car so I'm not worried about width. How's the depth though? We have small cars. We'll still use the size4me in the smaller car FF until we move to a HBB.

This is our plan. We'll buy a combo seat for dd - ff w/ a 5pt harness that later can be used as a high back booster with seatbelt. We'll put DS in her current convertible. I think that makes more sense than buying another convertible. Won't need to do that until sometime next year.

We were thinking of doing this, too. What seat are you thinking of for your DD? I know nothing beyond the convertibles we have for ds.

The link rainbowsockmonkey posted above has good options. I'd lean Britax since we have good experience with Britax seats, but I really haven't thought about it much and won't for a while. Really I was thinking about it because Amazon had the Britax seats 40% off, but we won't need to move either kid until at least next summer.

activebaby, when used properly, a FF harness seat is safe. Because of physics, RF will always be "safer" than FF (that is even true for us adults), however, kids can't stay RF forever, and will eventually have to be FF. If the seat is used properly, and the child is harnessed in correctly, it is safe to to FF.

The Britax combination seats (Frontier, Pioneer, Pinnacle) are good seats. They have some of the highest facing harness limits that are currently on the market. I'm leaning towards those seats myself, just because I want to keep my kids harnessed FOREVER, but may change my mind once we actually need to buy them, which won't be till they outgrow their convertibles.
This is the only car seat thread I can find so I'm posting here. rainbowsockmonkey Our new car has side curtain airbags in the back is it ok to put DS's car seat on the side? I'm assuming it is because they only have LATCH hooks on the side seats, but I feel like I read somewhere not to put your kids next to them. He is in a regular Britax marathon.
If it's not ok then I need help with installing him with the seat belt. I have tried multiple times and can't get the hang of the Britax seatbelt lock off things. I think my manual (which I can't find today) said to use both lock offs, but I was googling their lock offs and I see that I might only need to do one lock off (closest to the buckle) or not use them at all and just put my seat belt in auto locking mode. Any help?

Yes, you can install next to the side curtain airbags.
For seatbelt install, you only use the lockoff closest to the buckle of the seatbelt (pg 10 of your manual).
