microworm there are a couple of differences. The Size4Me, Headwise and Contender are pretty much the same seat, just with different names so that the retailers that sell them don't have to price match with others. The contender has a couple less "bells and whistles" such as no strap covers and small boot that needs to be flipped for RF/FF as opposed to the recline handle in the front of the car seat. These seats will RF to 40lbs/1in from the red adjuster handle.
The Myride is a different seat, and doesn't last as long RF because it has a fixed headrest. It is also a much bulkier seat (both side to side and front to back) than the other Gracos. It also doesn't have a no rethread harness, so you would need to uninstall the seat each time you adjusted the harness. The Myriad will RF to 40lbs/ 1in front the top of the shell.
The Extend2Fit lasts longer RF than the other seats. It has a 50lb/1in from the red handle RF limit, and will RF some kids to booster age. It is more compact than the other grace "clones", even with the foot rest extended. The foot rest is not required to be used, and many kids that use the seat without it are still comfortable. If you decide to get the Extend2Fit, skip the 3-1 version. The difference is that it converts to a HBB, but for the price, it's cheaper to get the regular version and then buy a HBB later on.

springbeduk, best hey will. They are disposing of them so that they can't be used again. Its a great way to get expired and dangerous seats out of circulation.

Thank you! I think I will go with the Size4Me. I believe that is what DS1 has.

Awesome. We have one of those for each of the girls in my car.

Sweet. That says something coming from the car seat guru herself.
Hmm. I'm thinking I want the size4me because of the easy remove cover feature. Along with that it's what you picked. Seems silly reason for what is really a safety device, but having fully taken apart the scenera a couple times to wash the cover - it'd totally be worth 20 $ extra (compared to contender) to not have to do that.
But you said the extend2fit is more compact. Do I should get that. Urgh. And lasts longer RF. Though dd's growth curve doesn't hit 40" until like 4 1/2. But she has a long torso.
They are almost the same price at Target. Like 9$ different. Size4me is more cheaper on Amazon.
Dilemmas!
And then there's the little part of me that wants to really look into the clek whatever's and maybe splurge.

rainbowsockmonkey, do the size4me and headwise really only have one allowable angle for RF? Which I'm guessing is the 45ish degrees for newborns. Seems awful laid back for a 3 year old. Plus space-consuming. How is it with your dd1? Is a more upright position allowed for older toddlers? Like maybe while they say there's just one position there's a wide range on the bubble thing so really more are ok?
That is making me lean back to the extend2fit despite the quick remove cover on the size4me.
And then I read some reviews that said hsadwise actually has better side impact protection. But others say it's the same seat as size4me. But better side impact position is important - outboard position at least usually now and will be for always if we ever have a second - in a small car. And the headwise is available sooner from Target than the size4me. But does not seem to have quick remove cover and some reviews said different fabric which is less breathable/sweatier. I saw it in the store but don't remember the fabric.
And unfortunately we do not have a BRU here to go try car seats. Just a really crappy TRU with barely any carseats in stock and non helpful staff. And none of my coworkers did extended RF in a small car.
Augh! I know, I know, they are all good seats and I just need to pick one and be done.
lrmrtn you have a Graco clone in a Civic, and it fit, right? With pass seat not all the way forward? But how long did you RF?
Post by rainbowsockmonkey on Apr 23, 2017 16:35:56 GMT -5
The Graco clones do only have 1 recline angle setting, but there is a little bit of play with how reclined it can be. It has a bubble recline on 1 side and the little ball needs to be in the blue range. Close up of the recline for Dd2's seat
Dd2s seat
As for the side impact testing, there isn't a standard set by NHTSA for it. So as far as the safety ratings of that, we have to rely on whatever the manufacturers tell us.
springbeduk, we had the size4me in our Civic RF for about a year before we switched it to my car and put the Scenera in the Civic. The passenger seat did have to go pretty far forward. I was fine but I'm short. DH complained. We moved it to the middle seat which gave us more room to move back the passenger seat. We now have the Nautilus in the Civic because we switched DS FF.
I have a 20% trade in coupon code of anyone needs it. And hopefully I will be getting more next weekend after city wide garage sales.
The coupons are good till 5-31-17.
I think the trade in only goes until end of April right? If you do get more codes, I'll take one. I'm trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to trade in the infant seat when the carseat I want has to be ordered online. So he would be without a seat until it delivered.
lrmrtn, the nautilus is a god seat, but is wide. That isn't a problem if there is only 1 kid in the back though. If you are already FF or are planning on doing it shortly, I would stay away from getting a convertible. Buying one to use with a. FF kid, is only using 50% of its usage. Here is a list of recommended combination seats (FF harness to booster). csftl.org/recommended-seats/#combination
I'm sorry I didn't get to this stuff last week.
Also, seats for the US and Canada have different specs, so what will work/ fit a budget here, may not do that up there.
So I'm bringing this back up because I need to do something but idk what. My big is in a chicco nextfit FF at 35ish lbs and 38ish inches- I'll find out exactly next week... The little is in a chicco infant seat RF. He's almost 17lbs, not sure of his height but he already weighs more than my oldest did and my oldest was 25 lbs at his 1 year birthday. He's going to probably outgrow the height on the bucket by 9 months and this is my dilemma and what I was thinking... I want him to RF until at least 2, 3 if possible. I was thinking of giving him the nextfit which would still be good and doesn't expire for years. I would expect him to RF until he hits 35 lbs with latch, maybe 40 if he gets there before I'm ready to turn him. My thought was since the big will outgrow the nextfit eventually and need a new HBB, and he's already FF, that I should go ahead and get him a HBB that has a good height and weight limit since he's big. Questions: is this what I should do? Is there a better/ or cheaper option?
Should I buy another convertible for the baby and wait for put DS1 in a booster?
If I should get the big a booster, which one for our purposes? I started to look at that site. Do I really need one that goes to 90 lbs? Or what age do I need to get him the low back or idk what to even ask anymore. I don't understand what I'm doing. rainbowsockmonkey just tell me what to do.
becole, I'm not rainbowsockmonkey, but my understanding is that our LOs are way too young for HBBs. You may want to get a combo seat that is FF and will convert to the HBB and NBB.

I'm not using the terms correctly. But yes. Trying to figure out if I should get a 5 point harness FF seat for the big. Or if I should get two convertibles.
becole that is exactly what I did with DD1 when I needed a convertible for Eliza. I got DD1 a HBB, the Graco Nautilus, and used her old seat for Eliza. The Nautilus is a FF only seat, but I still use the 5 point harness and will for quite awhile. I haven't measured her lately but I would imagine she's around 45" tall and roughly 40lbs. I imagine in 1-2 years we'll actually use the car seat belt. She still fits great in the nautilus. It's a heavier seat for working with the latch weight limits. Overall we love it.
If you get a HBB just make sure that it has the 5 point harness. Otherwise you are going to be using the car seat belt and I think our LO's are too young for that.

Get the combo seat. The only advantage to the convertible is that it rear faces, which you aren't going to use anymore for Ds1. The combo will 5 point harness now, and be an hbb down the road. This is my plan, to get Dd the combo and move ds to the convertible, but we've probably got lots more time in the infant seat despite him being 3 months older than your ds2

I for sure want a 5 point harness. My friend said her nephew that is same sized as my big has a hard time buckling the harness because the Nautilus crotch strap is too short and he's not close to outgrowing the seat. So I think that one is out for me.

That's what we did when DS outgrew his Scenera (he was almost at the weight limit and the straps were too tight at their loosest). We got him the Nautilus and switched him to FF. I think that'd be more cost effective than buying another convertible and eventually having to buy a HBB and NBB.

DS is huge and we have no problems with the crotch strap. He's over 36 lbs and close to 40 inches.

That's my thing- I have huge kids so I need to see the options for a combo seat that is made for heavy tall kids. I also want to machine wash the seat cover and preferably easy install and I want it be comfy for DS1.
So, I would recommend getting the big a combination seat (FF harness to booster) and passing the Nextfit down to the little. No sense in buying another convertible when your big is already FF. Absolute minimum age to start using a booster seat with he seat belt is 5yo, but most kids aren't really to make the switch till closer to 7yo. It has to do the child being mature enough to sit properly 100% of the time and get a safe fit with the seat belt. As for using a NBB, most kids are ready to use one of those around 8-9yo.
