So, I would recommend getting the big a combination seat (FF harness to booster) and passing the Nextfit down to the little. No sense in buying another convertible when your big is already FF. Absolute minimum age to start using a booster seat with he seat belt is 5yo, but most kids aren't really to make the switch till closer to 7yo. It has to do the child being mature enough to sit properly 100% of the time and get a safe fit with the seat belt. As for using a NBB, most kids are ready to use one of those around 8-9yo.
So what seat should I get knowing he will probably be a pretty big 7 yo? I want to machine wash and want it comfy and easy install. I need a good height, weight limit.

The Britax Frontier/Pinnacle have some of the highest limits currently on the market. They will harness to 90lbs (58"), booster to 120lbs (62") (doesn't go to a NBB, but those are fairly cheap), and has 20.5in top harness slots. Target has them on their website ranging from $272-299 depending on the color. The 20% coupon code can be stacked with current sale prices and REDcard (gets the $272 price down to $206.72 +tax.
The Graco Nautilus and Graco Wayz/Tranzitions (same seat) are other options, but don't harness nearly as long (65lbs/49"). The Nautilus has 18in top harness slots and the Wayz has 18.25in. Both will HBB/NBB to 100lbs/57in, with he Nautilus having top belt guide height of 21in and the Wayz being 19.5in. The Nautilus is available at Target while the Wayz/Tranzitions are only available at BRU and Was-Mart.

I think the britax would be smarter for him since it has higher limits, especially with the harness slots. He sits really high in his seat now- long torso. I don't love that the britax is hand wash and not machine wash. How do you deal with that?
The Radian is a convertible, so you would be paying for 1 feature of the seat that you won't be using. It also has a 50lb minimum booster weight, and the booster function is usually outgrown at the same time as the harness because of the short belt guides. It also has a difficult install, and Diono changes the rules about their seats ALL THE TIME without notifying owners or us as techs.

I had the Britax infant seat, and whenever the seat pad needed to be washed, I would just put it in my bath tub with some warm soapy water and clean it with a sponge. Do dry it, I would roll it up in a towel to get most of the water out, and then just put it on our clothes drying rack in the sun.

Since he's in daycare daily, if he has a potty accident, the seat needs washed and dried the same evening to be ready for the next morning. I guess I could have one of us do drop off and pick up if that happened one day and it wasn't dry...
becole, we have the Graco Nautilus 80 so it can FF up to 80 lbs.
FF but not harness. I am going to need the harness longer than 65 lbs I am not imagining him suddenly listening to instructions and sitting in his seat properly.

Do you know why they don't want it machine washed?
We have a toploader that doesn't have he agitator and the I'm tempted to machine wash our covers anyway.

My local board is discussing and one is on hold with britax. Will update.

My go to answer is because the manufacturer says so. My guess is that it could damage the seat by being tumbled or spun in the washer/ dryer.

I used one in my nextfit and he peed and it went through the middle hole by the buckle and still got on the pad and I needed to wash it. I would still use the seat saver but it didn't work unfortunately.
So they said with the britax seat they said basically "irritation" on the seat cover from the washing machine. Meaning it could knick the fabric- it's not a safety issue. Their same seats in Australia say they can be machine washed...

Fantastic. Dd's really needs to be washed after winter yuck and I found hand washing to be a pain, and I really didn't do a great job last time.

I would put it inside out and do the hand wash or gentle cycle with no bleach or softener and air dry. The one girl also emailed them about a snag in her fabric and they sent her a new cover.

I think you can also buy an extra cover from Britax. Not the most budget friendly option, but if you want the Britax and have more money to throw at it.....

Someone was saying something like that. I feel like if I'm going to get the britax I should do it now and get the 20% but I don't have a car seat to trade in until he's out of the bucket.

Doesn't BRU do the trades throughout the year, too?

Idk. I'm going to need a new seat within the next 3 months. The little is 18 lbs and 26.5 inches. I'm not lugging his butt around for much longer.
This was timely because my little is 19.5 lbs. I almost hurt my back trying to get the car seat into my SUV today. If my car was shorter it wouldn't be as bad but I can barely lift him and the seat into my car. Looks like I'll be getting the big some new seats and pass down his seats.

BRU usually does their trade in twice a year in February and September.
I just got the listings for our citywide sales today and there are 4 that advertise carseats, and atlas 6 more that have baby gear. hopefully some of them will be expired and I can get them for free. My plan is to then go up to target on Sunday and get all the coupons, and then pass the codes on to whoever needs them here.

Lifting him up above my waist onto the base is a killer for me as well. Even when he was little, the angle is bad.

Don't worry if you can't get us codes, that sounds like a lot of work. Does the 20% coupons that BRU sometimes has each month not apply to car seats or certain brands?
ETA/ and buy buy baby normally has 20% as well. I haven't checked any prices.

The mail coupons that BRU sends out exclude Peg Perego and a couple of other really high end brands. And I'm not sure about BBB's codes.
It's not much work at all, and I will need to get to target this weekend anyway Dr other stuff.
