One of the biggest issues that continues to crop up are admins using "regular" usernames.
Naria (and others) needs to wear a hat - she can't be a user and an admin at the same time when posting, which is what happened over the weekend and has happened before.
We would be happy to use the news/staff profile that was created for general announcements if that what everyone wants. We've erred on the side of using our primary accounts because of the requests for transparency. But if you would prefer that we administrate from dedicated sock puppet accounts, we would be happy to do so.
Do you really think you lose any transparency by posting under an Admin account for admin stuff and under a personal account for personal stuff?
If anything, this gives YOU more freedom. Say WTFever you want/shout your feels from the rooftops from you personal account and then deal with TOU and business shit from the Admin account. Yes, it's annoying for you to have to log into multiple accounts but you're the business owner. It comes with the territory.

I was clicking post as we are discussing it. My post was immediately deleted. I need to be slower on the draw. I was attempting to keep us to the issue currently at hand.
Girl, ILY, but do you see how your post back-to-back with NariaDreaming's is a bit unsettling. It sounds like you guys haven't discussed and aren't on the same page. You literally just said opposite things.
Oops. Meant to quote theophania. Wasn't trying to vague post.
It's an ongoing conversation to figure out what would best serve the community as a whole.
This is a really cool debate and stuff, but is this what is going to determine this part of forum culture?
I haven't done the legwork, but I feel like there must be a number of reputable forums where we can see their TOU for this stuff and then discuss what suits our needs. I want to see some defensible recommendations.
I'm going to disagree with this. I don't think Naria is trying to be a badass or impress anyone. I think she's trying to take care of the group of ladies that post here. Since this is a smaller forum and came to fruition through the crap at the Dump, people have naturally created closer relationships.
Does it make it harder for new people to join in? As a new person, yes. But I don't think that, or Naria herself, is doing anything malicious or shady.
I have no comments on the AE. I don't Internet that well.
Ok...but taking care of the group of ladies that post here needs to include ALL of the posters - not just the ones she knows and/or likes.
If rules are not violated, then there doesn't need to be any checking or calling out. If rules are violated, then handle the violation in accordance with the rules as written. If there's no written rule at the time - then whether or not you want to help out your friends doesn't really matter.
I don't disagree with this. Just voicing that I don't feel Naria did anything malicious or to make herself look like a bad bitch.
This plus people like to have a place to post pictures and we want to keep the BMBs here. Private boards are our compromise and we depends on our mods to make sure they don't become mean girls which as we've seen can actually happen in a public thread as well.
Actual question: A few months back Naria mentioned routinely deleting pictures posted on the forums in batches as a way to maintain people's privacy. What happened with that?
People were wishy washy on the issue, plus we were given more storage space from proboards. I would be happy to revisit that discussion from a pure privacy standpoint though

It appears to me that it's related to the amount of "girl, you are such a baddass lololol" gifs that NariaDreaming thinks she can get.
ETA: Someone can add a tag for me, I'z lazy.

Huh, you serious Clark? She came in to a thread, bragged about how she can check IP addresses, and then did her version of a mic drop about who the poster was. The AE was not hurting anyone and there was no need for it. She got the reaction from people that she wanted and then was on her way. Now, as per usual, she started shit and is leaving up to the other Admins to take care of.
She shouldn't have done it, she fucked up, and now there has to be a whole discussion on how shit should be handled instead of just apologizing and not letting it happen again.

I believe we can only delete pictures added as attachments, not pictures people post using links unless we delete those individually. Unfortunately the attachment space fills up fast.

If it would help eliminate the confusion/issue of the bmb private boards then I'm all for it.

What?
This is not a brand new or unique issue. How do other forums deal with it? What works? What doesn't? What options make most sense for us?

Yes, Clark. I am serious. I'm taking my total experiences with Naria and the admin's and not just one thread to come up with my opinion. Is that okay with you, dear?

Uhm.
I think kind of the point is if you want to tout your complete transparency then maybe start with the pretty clear fact that the response in the GKU thread was meant to be a mic drop and wasn't out of genuine concern for the greater membership of TCF.
I think it's weird to try to act like it was something other than her posting her personal feelings but with the backing of her admin capacity.
If a person says they feel unsafe here due to another poster, that's on them. The board as a whole can't go about willy nilly trying to protect each individual and make them safe. Part of that is on the poster themselves, not engaging, blocking a user, etc.
As to admin using a generic admin user name, not everyone use the same one. Each head admin needs to have their personal user name and their professional admin name separate. So Naria is Naria, and Naria Dreaming is the admin or whatever.
Also, two out of three admins have to vote to do a particular thing, ip/account check, outing on board, etc. and agree 3/3 for banning. Or some other % that would include lower level moderators opinions.
Each person here that posts need to take responsibility for their pics and anything that can be personally identifying.
Don't just post and then expect an admin to ever go back and delete it. Don't expect an admin to ever delete your whole user history cause someone could piece together your life from all the hints over the years.
cause what you've posted someone has screen shot it or clicked and saved your picture or whatever. someone might be using your baby picture on coffee mugs made in india for all your know.

I am so confused by this. The admin's total experience with Naria? She is the admin.
If a poster isn't violating the TOU then there isn't anything that should be done. You wrote the TOU for a reason. Either write more rules/clarifications or don't. But stick to the ones you have.
Just like Theo said upthread, if someone doesn't like it - they don't have to be here.
Okay, so moving forward, we permit AE use to be unchecked, unless that AE is malicious or trolling? No IPs to be checked, unless at the behest of the member?
I agree with this.
IMO, if you get PMs from people alerting you to something smelling fishy (which I personally don't think are necessary when a poster can just call them out in a post if they care that much), all you need to say is "thanks for making us aware." And leave it at that.

Aren't there multiple Admin's? Theo and Biblio as well?
My opinion is that the admin's as a whole do not act in a malicious way. So I give them the benefit of the doubt. I did not say gold shines out of their ass.

I will WK BMB private boards, or at least mine. We do most of our posting on our main board, daily threads, birthday threads, WWYD? threads. But we keep a private board for gtg info and other sensitive stuff we don't want on the main board. We're not putting our addresses out there because, duh but maybe once a month we use the private board because the topic is better suited there. We're not being mean girls and talking shit or leaving someone out, we're also not posting our social security numbers. But after knowing each other for over 3 years, we are a small close-knit group and sometimes we prefer that venue.

I don't really disagree with this use. But a lot of BMBs do their only posting on their private boards. If we have new members coming in, it's possible they could say, hey, my kid was born in Nov 13. I want to join that board! So if you guys are mostly posting on the main BMB, then they can join in. Sure, it might be weird to have a newb after all this time, but it's an option. If boards are only using private boards, newcomers can't come in. I also find it unsettling that April 15 or whatever it was went private because it turned out they had a bunch of racist posters and didn't like us coming in and telling them so.

Ok. Now I understand, your first misuse of the apostrophe threw me off. The next few helped me translate.
Regarding your opinion, I believe at least one member of the admin team exercises poor judgement on a very regular basis.

bunnyfungo I totally disagree with that use of a private board. I'm not sure what's the point of being here if you're doing everything on a private board. I just had to WK my ladies. We have actually had new members join N13 really late in the game under the situation you just described. It is a little odd at first but we have actually gained some great people that way.

I'm using this post as an example and nothing against you Cherhorowitz.
During the TD IPgate situation, we found out that some of our very close friends off board/IRL were some of the most malicious trolls on the boards. People had been posting with them for 3-4 years and having GTGs with them. I wish that the admins would have been able to do a check at that time of the AEs (some were just harmless, but some were really horrible people).
Okay, but that has nothing to do with a private board. People get close on the internet and sometimes they get burnt. With or without a private board. I'm not saying a private board prevents us from that. I'm just saying if we're planning a gtg, id rather it on the private board than the main board.

So you were having real in person GTG with these people
that the IP address showed they were a horribly trolling AE?
So which persona was true? The game they played online, or the person they were um in person?
