Oh my. DS was such a good baby sleeper until 4 months. At five months it's even worse!! He's up every two hours, wants to eat at least three times, and Is cranky and gnawing on everything. I don't know what is bothering him but I'm soooo ready for this stage to be over.
He has all teething symptoms but I don't see anything yet and ds1 got his teeth around 8 months.
He has a little cold and is a tiny bit stuffy but that has just been the past few days and sleep has sucked for a week.
It could be a growth spurt but we have a baby scale and he's been steady in weight for the past 10 days or so.
He could be learning a new trick and it could be a mental growth spurt. He's rolling like a champ and is now propping himself up on his arms so maybe sitting is around the corner.
Basically it could be anything and I'm exhausted. Please tell me it will get better soon. I don't know how much longer we can handle it. Ds1 is almost 5 and still a crappy sleeper. Please don't tell me I have two of them!!!! Ds2 starters out sooo good!
I could have written the exact same thing. Mine started at 3.5 months and ds is almost 6 months. I said I was going to sleep train after thanksgiving but he's now sick. It will get better, it has to!
Yup. Right there with you. Just sent my SO in and she rocked and rocked and I ended up having to nurse anyway. For the 3rd time and it's not even 3 am.
I'm sorry! I can totally relate. I feel like from 4-6 months DD's sleep was so horrible, but it appears that we are moving slowly in a better direction. Although my house just got hit with a horrible cold, so sleep is about to take a hit. As an aside, DD is still in our room so I don't know if that makes a difference. I needed a few solid weeks of somewhat decent sleep before I was ready to tackle a room transition.

We've been on every 1-2 hr wake ups since she started daycare at 2 months old. She did have 2 nights at the end of Thanksgiving weekend with 1 and 2 wake ups. Proving I could have a good sleeper if I didn't have to work

DD did some of her best sleeping over the holiday weekend, so I really feel the same way about work

I got 6 hrs (in a row) of sleep. First time since she was born!

We went through this, DD missed the memo on a 4 month sleep regression but it came in full force at 5 months. She was becoming impossible to put down, waking multiple times a night but the worst part was the crap naps. She was an overtired mess by the end of the day. That's when I finally decided to sleep train. I nursed her after bath but made sure not to nurse her to sleep. I think the key is putting themselves to bed. I rubbed her back while she fussed and whined a bit, first night took about 20 minutes. If she wakes before 5 am I try just rubbing her back if not I'll rock her a bit. After 5 am I'll nurse her and then put her back. Naps are slowly getting better. Not sure what my husband does but he gets her to nap for at least two hours where as I'm doing a happy dance for and hour.
greysonsmom, I used to believe that too about putting themselves to sleep. So from the beginning I've had P do that, and she does it 70% of the time. But still wakes up and needs to eat every two hours.
I'm banking on this being a phase that ends, since many of us have it going on...and like @cheeze, my first kid took way too long to outgrow it. I will not let that happen this time!

Yeah, we got that here as well. Moving him into his own room actually helped in our case, as it turns out he was wanting to roll and there wasn't room in the bassinet. He's still up 2-4 times a night, but things seem to be trending in a positive direction.
DD used to be an amazing sleeper, she's 5 months now and her sleep is hit and miss. Tonight will be her first night in her crib, I have mixed feelings about this. She needs the space but I will miss having her within arms reach all night.
G must be hitting a growth spurt. He's normally my solid sleeper, but he woke at 3 am, steaming mad. I gave him 3 oz of formula...still hungry...2 more oz...and he was finally content. Goodness, child. He was ravenous!
L has been a super grump as far as falling asleep the last couple nights. Really hoping it doesn't become the trend.

I like hearing this from formula fed babies. Cuz I get so mad (frustrated) with P for wanting to nurse again at 3 and when she was just up at 145...and clawing at me if I don't immediately. I default assume she wants it for comfort or out of habit. So its good to hear that she may literally be hungry..I need to remember that.

DS was sleeping for at least six hours at a time but that's over. I am always too tired to even track his wake ups now but I am praying this is short lived. I can't have two bad sleepers!
DD was STTN until she was four months and then turned into a crap sleeper. That lasted until she was 15 months!!!! I was already pregnant with DS by then. She now seems to have night terrors with all of the recent changes we've been through and invariably wakes up screaming at night, inconsolable for quite a while.
