I'm trying very hard not to get into it with my Dad. He voted for Trump; I did not. He posted on FB last night saying Trump won and everyone needs to "get over it". That phrase makes my blood boil for multiple reasons but especially because he's coming from a place of white upper middle class straight male privilege. I've made a goal of not engaging unless he says it directly to me or if he says it in person. But I'm just sitting here seething.

marshian, I find anyone who thinks people need to just "get over it" don't at all understand the real implications of having Trump as president. I refuse to engage with them because if they think it boils down to being a sore loser then I can't even begin to explain the magnitude of the situation. It would make my blood boil too. Good for you for not engaging, it's hard.

Yes, exactly this. As much as I feel some people need education and facts, logic says what I say likely won't change them. But then I feel like I should say it anyway just in case and to make an attempt. It's tough with family. With anyone else I have no problem having a conversation about this stuff (if they're willing to keep it civil).
