D finally had a good start to the night!! Her evening wakeup coincided perfectly tonight with DS's bedtime, so while H handled that, I gave her a sponge bath and massage, then nursed skin to skin and read her books. She was super relaxed and after I dressed and swaddled her, she nursed the other side and fell asleep for about 4 hours. I got to sleep about 3 of those. I'll take it!
Now she's passed out on my chest after nursing again. It's time to put her down and try to sleep more. I'm so tired but I've been having trouble falling asleep. Does this happen to anyone else?
We are up for our 3am nursing session. Someone else woke up and is in bed with us too. I love how Lillian likes to slowly push me to the edge of the bed. Not. I love snuggles, but seriously kid, I'm way bigger than you and I need some space. It's a freaking king sized bed. Go in your own space.
danib We are totally team swaddle. Otherwise she just startles herself awake and never really settles. No idea how to break the habit later, but for now I'm ok with it.
tallblonde I have to do our Christmas cards still. I'm thinking they'll be late this year...
dashook Yes. I usually stay up for a bit after Lilah goes back to sleep because I have trouble falling asleep again. I think it's because I'm awake for just long enough my brain wakes up even if my body is exhausted still. It sucks.
It's 4am. Go back to sleep kid!!! We are not starting the day at 3:30. No effing way.
I'm right there with you danib. C decided to projectile poop all over me while changing his diaper at 3AM. He needed a full outfit change which woke him up and he is not interested in going back to sleep at the moment. I hope H goes back to bed for you soon!

Nice work tallblonde! My goal is to get mine out by this weekend. I was able to create my address list yesterday at work. Guess that's one good thing about being there right now.

So last night I was having a nice moment with C. I was holding him up to my chest and we were pretend dancing/swaying. I started thinking about how crazy it is that he's mine and even started thinking about how I get to dance with him for the mother son dance at his wedding. Then he proceeded to projectile spit up ALL over me and down my shirt...
We swaddle over here but a lot of time we don't even bother putting his arms in since he busts out so easily. What do you guys do with the arms?
I employ what one of my friends has dubbed the "no hope" swaddle. Basically, you want a swaddle so tight that this baby has no hope of getting his arms out. This is best achieved with a quality muslin blanket because they're stretchy AF so you can't actually hurt the kid. Baby's arms are pinned straight down against his body.
Full disclosure: D still eventually breaks an arm out of this like 30-40% of the time. But the initial swaddle will usually hold her arms in for a good 3-4 hours. If I didn't lock them in she would never sleep because she gets super pissed off when she startles.
Also, as a side note, when DS started sleeping on his tummy around 3 months old, we would swaddle him with his arms out. But that was 1) obviously for safety and 2) nbd because startling was no longer an issue at that age or in that sleeping position.
Re: Christmas cards, I ordered ours but supposedly they won't arrive until the 20th. So that day will involve a frenzy of stamping and a big trip to the mailbox.
goldenlove3, I have ugly cried while rocking DS and thinking about dancing with him at his wedding. Sometimes I feel like he's already an adult and I'm just remembering him as an almost-two-year-old.
I love the miracle blanket for swaddling. It's a baby straight jacket and arms can't get out. I think there is a newish swaddle that has arms up that seems kind of cool and has great reviews. It has a zipper..
Ds slept for 6hrs weee! He woke up at a quarter till four to eat and has been restless ever since. So awesome stretch yet I have been awake since 3:30.

NEED to do this. My thank you cards are sitting blank on my dining room table. I just cannot make myself get them started.

Maybe I should try am arms down swaddle. The LC at the hospital told us to have a hand near his face to be able to catch hunger cues. We just never tried it any other way. I have some swaddle wraps with Velcro but I didn't like them. I feel like I can get it tighter with muslin blankets.
starbuck27 I would be pissed! That is some shit. Mix some dick glitter in with his Sudafed. goldenlove3, by this point you are probably super familiar with his feeding cues. Definitely give the arms down, no hope swaddle a shot!
I can't remember who it was a few weeks ago I was talking to about wearing the baby in the ergo. But I decided to give it a try today. I don't have the newborn insert but he seems to be fine without it. He's also over 12lbs so I think that helps. I think the newborn insert is to be used until 11lbs? I freaking love the ergo 360. I do a couple laps and baby is out!
Oh my gosh, yes. When DS was tiny, this was my magic bullet when nothing else would get him to sleep.

I like how much thinner the fabric is on that. M is such a little heater, I can't even put fleece on her to sleep in. So I can't imagine using the MMSS.

Not that I can swaddle her either...
It's actually lighter than it looks. And the inside is soft so you could feasibly put her in it in just a onesie or even just a diaper.

It was me! I actually used it last week too but when she was in her fleece snowsuit when I walked to pick up O from daycare. In the snowsuit she is more curled into a ball and the ergo just suctioned her onto me. Her feet were curled up and not out the holes. She's still only 10 lbs so maybe not ready for a normally dressed and positioned use?
Did you have J's legs out? Was it easy to get him high enough on you?
dashook, I struggle to fall asleep when L does! I've never been one to hit the pillow and fall asleep fast! danib, we are swaddlers here too! L hates it but then sleeps better when in it! Re:Christmas cards, I think they will be late this year! Waiting for holiday/newborn photos goldenlove3, we have sleep sacks, as well as swaddleme pods! We've been using the pods most nights.
kleigh how was your pp visit? You guys feeling 100% now?
Yes! I was cleared for sex (gulp) and strenuous exercise though she told me to go easy the first one. I am having feels though. Now I know what people mean when they say "even though you're cleared physically for sex you might not be ready".. Me 100%. I feel scared lol - is that normal? Not for physical pain per se, but the emotional aspect.
But yes I feel like a million bucks! Thank you for asking!
kleigh +1 for scared on every level. And the first time we did it (at 11 weeks PP) I felt kind of like an awkward teenager. I was so shy and didn't know what I should do. It was very weird. Definitely take some more time if you feel like that's what you need.

kleigh I was nervous after I had Lillian. I also had some weird nerve damage and had granulated scar tissue down there. I can't remember exactly when we did it, but it hurt really bad and was weird. It took a long time (months) to get better because of the scar tissue. But it did and then of course we had Lilah. This time around my expectations are pretty low and we are more prepared for it to take some time again to get back to normal.
