For breastmilk an easy way to remember (although you will read different things depending on the source) is the rule of 6's - fresh milk is good for 6 hours at room temp, 6 days in the fridge and 6 months in the freezer (12 months deep freezer).
Unless you have a lipase issue like I did... Then it barely lasts at all! Does anybody know if that is a guarantee that I will have the same problem this time around for sure?
I know moms that have had it with one and not the other. And some babies never mind the taste of it! Hope you don't have to deal with that again!

I hope that is the case! It was exhausting scalding my milk after a 12 hour work day. Lots of tears on my behalf. Still nursed until 15 months though and it was so worth it!
honda13, I agree with PP-definitely talk to your OB about it. If a doctor prescribes it, there's no reason that I can think of for your insurance to deny the claim-especially if your doctor is careful about how they note the reason for it. Most doctors I've worked with are pretty good about this.
marshian, I don't remember the bleeding being too terrible with DD. I was worried about not being able to use a tampon too since I have always used them, but honestly, the last thing I felt like doing was sticking anything up there. I took advantage of the mesh panties from the hospital and I think maybe slept on a towel for the first week just to be safe.
For the registry question, with DD I talked to my sister who already had three kids, and did online research. I liked Lucie's List (and still look at it for things from time to time). I also didn't do my registry completely all at once. DH and I went to a couple of stores, and then added things online as needed/wanted and did the Amazon registry for the completion coupons. One thing I would recommend is registering for diapers/wipes, even if it's after any showers that you have-specifically so that you can use the completion coupons for them. You'll definitely need them, and those things are expensive!
I am so overwhelmed with starting to think about a registry. How did/will you decide what to get? Should we do all our research first or walk around the store and get some ideas then research and register?
I also found registering super overwhelming. I went into BRU to start one and ended up leaving with only 7 things on the list because I was too overwhelmed. I actually got out of it because my cousin handed down all of her big baby gear and I was so relieved to not have to make the decisions. In my area baby showers are held after the baby is born, so most gifts are clothing/small toys/blankets etc. and the parents get all the big stuff. I was mostly registering for the coupons and sample bag anyway.
I did like reading Lucies List and found it helpful in narrowing down options and knowing some things to look for.
I did a lot of my registry like I do most purchases - reading Amazon reviews . We went to Buy Buy Baby for in person comparisons. The Amazon registry worked great for people who didn't live near us (most of our friends and family).

I brought my sister with me. DH stayed home=easier for me.
I did a lot of research on the big stuff, but found myself getting caught up making decisions on the small stuff ahead of time... So I ended up just winging it with the small stuff when all was said and done. You can update if you change your mind.
I think the bottles were tough for me! I wanted to pick one and stick with it so I bought like all the compatible bottle warmers, etc. But ended up hating our choice. I'm glad my sister made me put a few different types on there instead of just a large quantity of one type. You never know what type baby will like and it was nice to try a few in real life before buying a ton.
Okay, new topic. I know there will be blood post partum. How bad is it? Was it something that bothered you or were you too focused on the baby to care?
It wasn't too bad for me. I think it was like a heavy period for a few days, then normal period for a few days, then tapered off to just a light period/spotting for another week or so.
It didn't bother me compared to all the other pain and chaos in those early days lol. The vag pain, uterus pain when BFing, and boob/nipple pain were my main complaints. Again, it all gets better in a couple weeks. And pain meds can help the vag pain.
I know some people don't use the pumpkin seats for long, but man I used it until my DD was over a year. I think until 15 months and then she was getting close to the height limit. It was heavy by that point if we popped it out of the car, but bought us extra time before buying a convertible seat. For me the pumpkin seat was worth it solely for all the naps we got in it when we had to move from the car to somewhere else.
Because people keep mentioning sleep as a reason to get an infant car seat, I thought I'd mention that DS has never once stayed sleeping once a vehicle stops moving. As soon as we pull into the garage, it's over. As soon as he could sit independently I switched to the convertible car seat, and he was more comfortable and it took up less space in the vehicle. The only thing I liked about the infant car seat was the ability to pile him up with blankets in winter and keep my MIL from questioning if he was warm enough for the 10 second walk from the car to her house.
I keep reading about how to transfer baby once they're asleep from your arms/wherever to the crib. How do you know when they're actually asleep? I've babysat and thought they were asleep (limp arms, etc), but then they woke as soon as I moved them. Is there a secret sign?

From my experience with one (I've never babysat kids less than a year old), this is a myth. DS has never transferred and stayed asleep, no matter what length of time I held him. I worked on getting him to fall asleep in the crib on his own fairly early because otherwise I would have to hold him for his entire nap every time and even though baby snuggles are great, I was starting to resent it.

I STILLuse the arm test... Hold up his arm and let it go and see if it plopped down. However, I was not really able to transfer to crib without wake ups, like ever
as usual i agree with the others...tricky to transfer without waking up and IMO not really even worth trying. as hard as it is, helping them learn to fall asleep pays major dividends! (this from someone who held her 3 month old for god knows how many hours every day for naps and got nothing done/no rest herself because of it.) do as i say, not as i do. lol.

I don't know if any secret sign. But I successfully transferred DD until she was about 2, and I can still transfer DS (15 months). I wish I knew the secret, I'd definitely share!

Ok so this is a dumb question but I'm struggling with this. I swear the most protruding part of me right now is right below my boobs. I swear that's where my bump is forming. But I know that baby is not possibly that high. I've been looking for those pics of where your organs are at 18 weeks but can't find anything. I really think it's my full stomach but why is that bigger than my actual bump which will be much lower.
Ok sorry that's a really dumb question. Is this like a situation where my upper abs are toast because of #1 and they've already given up this time?
starsandshamrocks123 I think it's cool too! It answers some questions about why my baby isn't protruding as much as I expect it to be (based on its size)-- because my whole body has rearranged itself for baby!
